Pittsfield Lake Campground is conveniently located at 3252 E, Pittsfield, IL 62363, USA. This address places it within the picturesque landscape of Pike County, in west-central Illinois. Pittsfield, often referred to as the "Land of Lincoln," is a charming community surrounded by the natural beauty of rolling farmlands and the expansive Lake Pittsfield.
The accessibility of the campground is a significant advantage for Illinois residents. Pittsfield is situated approximately two hours from St. Louis, Missouri, making it a feasible weekend getaway for those in the greater metropolitan area, and a reasonable drive from other parts of Central and Western Illinois. The campground is nestled within a larger 480-acre park that features the 200-acre Lake Pittsfield. Access to the campground typically involves turning towards the soccer field, with the camping loop nestled into the park. While some internal roads and site configurations might require careful maneuvering for "larger campers" due to "trees close to the road," the presence of "pull thru sites" helps accommodate various vehicle sizes. Its proximity to town, yet feeling secluded, allows for easy access to local amenities while maintaining a peaceful camping experience.
Pittsfield Lake Campground, while offering a generally "basic" experience, provides essential services and amenities that ensure a comfortable stay for campers.
RV and Tent Sites: The campground offers 65 sites equipped with electric (50/30/20 amp) and water hookups. These sites are available for both RVs and tents; however, tent camping on these sites is charged the same rate as RVs. Primitive camping is also available at a lower daily fee.
Electric and Water Hookups: Each site provides electricity and water hookups, crucial conveniences for RV campers. It's noted that the water at the dump station is "non-potable," meaning campers should fill their potable water tanks at designated potable water sources before arriving or within the campground if available.
Level Gravel Sites: Many sites are described as "very level gravel sites," which helps in easily setting up campers and RVs.
Clean Shower House with Flush Toilets: Despite being "old," the shower house is consistently praised for being "clean" and offering "flush toilets," providing a comfortable hygiene experience for campers.
Dump Station: A "dump station" is conveniently located within the campground area for RV waste disposal.
Park Ranger Onsite for Payment: Payments are collected by a park ranger who comes around each morning and evening. A drop box is also available for payments near the soccer field.
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: While not explicitly stated for every site, a common expectation for campgrounds of this type is the provision of picnic tables and fire rings for outdoor cooking and enjoyment.
First-Come, First-Served Basis: The campground operates on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning no reservations are accepted. This allows for flexibility but advises early arrival during peak times.

Direct Access to Lake Pittsfield Activities: The campground offers "easy access to the lake" for popular activities like fishing and boating. While direct foot access from the campground to the lake shoreline might be limited in some areas, a "beach/picnic area on the opposite side of the lake" provides a designated spot for fishing and other lakeside enjoyment. The 200-acre lake is perfect for boating (with no horsepower restrictions, though all lake waters are no wake/idle speed only) and fishing for a "host of fish" species.
Family-Friendly Amenities: The presence of a "well kept, old-fashioned playground" with classic equipment like a "metal slide, teeter-totter; tall swings" provides a nostalgic and fun area for children to play. Shelters are also available in the park for picnics.

Two Campground Sections: There are "north and south (upper and lower) campground" areas, providing variety in site selection and potentially different levels of shade or access to specific amenities.

Pittsfield Lake Campground Reviews
Quiet and shady with easy access to the lake. Some sites are short and have trees close to the road which could make backing in tough for larger campers. There are some pull thru sites too. Overall very pleased.
Jun 13, 2025 · Bryan SneedenFor a city campground nestled between a lake; cornfields; and a soccer field it was just fine for hubby and I.The white Oaks and Hickory trees provided welcomed shelter (but in September/October watch out for falling nuts and pods (which did crack a neighbors skylight frame).Electricity and water for $15, an old but clean shower house with flush toilets; and a dump station. There is no hose for POTABLE water at the dump station.Apparently, there is a north and south (upper and lower) campground. We stayed in the upper.Turn towards the soccer field, then the loop will be on your left nestled into the park.A well kept, old-fashioned playground is to your left just before the loop. (Metal slide, teeter-totter; tall swings)When we arrived on a Sunday in September there was a soccer tournament going on with about 350 kids, concessions, and cheers. Few campers remained afterward.A neighbor was there to fish. The lake has a host of fish. There’s a beach/picnic area on the opposite side of the lake to fish at.The lake did not seem accessible by foot from this campground.
Sep 20, 2022 · Sandy TrappWe discovered this little gem. We enjoy camping here because it is so quiet and friendly. The fishing is awesome! That’s our favorite,! We come here once a year.
Mar 07, 2025 · Berta PerryVery nice, secluded campground. $15 for water and 50am hookup! Dump station in the park. We were just traveling south and decided to rest here but chose to stay a few days because it's beautiful, friendly and inexpensive. The dog enjoyed the area also. Would stay there again.
Oct 18, 2021 · Sheryl KinneyWater and electric sites for $15 a night. They have a dump station and bathhouse has showers. Lots of locals camp here. Kids playing loudly at the playground till really late on the weekend. It was very tricky to find because it wasn't on Google Maps yet. Bathrooms were pretty rugged. Sites were not laid out well. Not the worst camp we have stayed at, but I would not recommend it.
