a map is sorely lacking. the spot google maps took me to is just the middle of a road. the only signs that identify the place is down from there but for the longest time you don't know if you are even there.there is an outside bathroom along the way, don't know if it's part of the camping grounds or notthere is also a "self pay" station way back from the road, but there are no useful envelopes in the box, they're all weather damagednot sure i want to stick ten bucks into a box in the boonies anyway - DBD

Piney Creek Horse Camp Introduce

Introduction / Overview

Piney Creek Horse Camp offers a unique and authentic outdoor experience nestled within the sprawling Davy Crockett National Forest in East Texas. This is not your typical high-amenity campground; rather, it is a primitive and rustic escape for those who appreciate the untouched beauty of the Texas Piney Woods. As its name suggests, the camp is a primary hub for horse enthusiasts, providing a direct gateway to a vast network of equestrian trails. However, it’s also a welcoming spot for anyone seeking a tranquil and peaceful retreat, whether for a night of tent camping or a weekend of stargazing. The lack of modern distractions is a key part of its charm, allowing visitors to fully immerse themselves in the natural surroundings. With its tall pines, open spaces, and quiet atmosphere, Piney Creek is a place to slow down, breathe the fresh air, and appreciate the simple pleasures of the outdoors. It's a true "boonies" experience, offering a chance to disconnect from the digital world and reconnect with nature.

Location and Accessibility

Piney Creek Horse Camp is located on Srv Rd 566, Kennard, TX 75847, USA. It's important for local users to be aware that this is a remote location, and navigation can be a bit tricky. Relying solely on Google Maps has led to confusion for some visitors, as the road leading to the campground can be difficult to identify. There are no maps on-site, and the self-pay station is set back from the road, making it easy to miss. To avoid getting lost, it is recommended to follow the official directions from the Forest Service. The camp itself is a beautiful, large, open space, but it may lack clear signage from the main road. The rural setting means a lack of cell service for some providers, so having a physical map or printed directions is a good idea. Despite these navigational challenges, the payoff is a secluded, beautiful, and peaceful camping spot that feels a world away from the busy parts of Texas.
