What is worth choosing
Choosing Pine Grove Campground is a decision to embrace a truly rustic and authentic camping experience in Pennsylvania. The most compelling reason to choose this spot is its secluded, boat-in or hike-in nature. In an era where many campgrounds are crowded and commercialized, Pine Grove offers a quiet and peaceful alternative. This lack of easy vehicle access is a major filter, ensuring that the campers who do make it to the sites are those who genuinely appreciate and respect the natural environment. For those who own a boat or love to hike, this campground is a perfect destination, as it eliminates the noise and bustle often associated with car camping.
The second reason to consider Pine Grove is its beautiful, underdeveloped setting. While some may view the lack of perfectly level sites or amenities as a drawback, a certain type of camper sees it as a benefit. It means the natural landscape has been preserved, providing a more wild and authentic camping experience. The scenic views and the opportunity to camp so close to the water are invaluable, offering a serene backdrop for your stay. It's a place where you can truly feel like you're away from it all. The historical oil field equipment scattered throughout the woods adds a fascinating and unique layer to the experience, turning a simple walk into a historical discovery tour.
The public toilets are a crucial amenity that, despite the primitive nature of the campground, provides a necessary convenience. While the availability of fresh water may be inconsistent, as noted in a review, this detail serves as a reminder that this is a place for prepared and self-sufficient campers. Pine Grove is a place for those who seek adventure, solitude, and a deep connection with nature. It’s for the camper who packs a backpack, enjoys a challenging hike, and finds beauty in an untouched landscape. It is not for everyone, but for those it is designed for, it offers a rewarding and memorable escape from the everyday. Its rustic charm and beautiful location make it a special place for a Pennsylvania outdoor adventure.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1NO FRESH WATER AT CAMPGROUND! The well is capped off.Of the four out of the five boat/hike in campgrounds that I camped at on the lake, this one was the least developed, which nearly no level places to put up a tent. The few that were, one was already occupied by a very loud party. I stayed at the far other end to get away from the noise, but, and there is a running theme here with all these campgrounds, the nearer to the outer limits of the campground, the less maintained sites are, missing picnic tables, or fire rings, or both, some completely overgrown.A consolation prize, was the nearly intact, early 20th century oil field pumping station and miscellaneous related equipment strewn throughout the woods.
June 25 · Rod ReidnauerGreat place to camp or picnic with your family. Clean outhouses, fresh water pump. Amazing views.
August 17 · Get Outdoors NYbeautiful camp ground. there is a abandoned stationary engine and oil well pump from the early 1900s about 200 yards uphill
May 11 · Jacob PoucherWARNING: THE CAMP IS A FULL MILE HIKE FROM THE CLOSEST PLACE TO LEAVE YOUR CAR. I just wanted to make a disclaimer before others go camping at Pine Grove. The website claims it is 1/3 of a mile hike which it is not. It is a full mile scaling up/down the steep mountain. This campsite was absolutely gorgeous with great scenic views, awesome spacing between sites, and overall just a full nature bath. The reason for the disclaimer is because we were expecting the campsite to be way closer to where you can park your car. Unfortunately we got there early afternoon and struggled to setup our campsite before dark due to the long and vigorous hike to get up and down the mountain. But it was worth it!!
October 06 · Jarrod SzukicsEvery 4th of July we have a family reunion here and can't stay long enough. Sometimes the pit latreens are a little rushed by visitors around this time so it's recommended to bring back up TP ;) but the views are remarkable and it's right around the bend from Docksiders Restaurant/wolf run boat launch.
