We had a great time here. Our spot was close to a little creek and the kids loved playing in the creek. There were lots of hiking trails around so my husband was happy. Many of the campsites were shaded which was nice during the day.The only down downsides were:The road to the site was berry rough the last half and was pretty narrow, one car wide. That was a little stressful. The bugs, mosquitoes and biting flies, were not as bad as some places we've been, but they were still pretty annoying. - Melody Marlow

While Phelps Creek Campground / Horse Camp provides a wonderfully secluded experience, it’s important to be prepared for the journey to reach this wilderness haven. This article will delve into the specifics of what makes Phelps Creek an excellent choice for local campers, covering its unique location, the services and features it provides, and why it stands out as a prime destination for Washington residents seeking a genuine outdoor escape.

Location and Accessibility

Phelps Creek Campground / Horse Camp is situated on Chiwawa River Road in Leavenworth, WA 98826, USA. This location places it deep within the scenic Wenatchee National Forest, offering a truly immersive wilderness experience. While its secluded nature is a significant draw, it's important for prospective campers to be aware of the access road conditions.

The campground is known for being "a bit off the main road," providing that desirable sense of escape from civilization. However, accessing the site involves navigating a road that can be quite rough, particularly the latter half, and it is often narrow, allowing for only one car at a time. This can make the final stretch of the journey a little stressful, especially for larger vehicles or those unaccustomed to unpaved, single-lane forest roads. While this adds to the campground's secluded charm, it's crucial for visitors to drive cautiously and be prepared for these conditions.

Despite the adventurous access road, the destination itself is well worth the journey. Its proximity to Leavenworth, while still feeling remote, means that campers aren't entirely isolated from town amenities should the need arise. However, it's highly recommended to arrive with all necessary supplies, as quick trips to town are not easily made once settled at the campground. The drive itself showcases the stunning natural beauty of the region, building anticipation for the peaceful retreat that awaits.
