Parry Peak Campground is wonderfully situated in Twin Lakes, CO 81251, USA. This location is not just an address; it’s an invitation to experience one of Colorado’s most breathtaking regions. Twin Lakes itself is a charming, historic area known for its two large, glacially formed lakes nestled at the base of some of Colorado’s highest peaks, including the iconic Mount Elbert. The campground’s position offers immediate access to the serene beauty of the lakes and the surrounding national forest lands.
Accessibility to Parry Peak Campground is generally straightforward. Twin Lakes is located on Colorado State Highway 82, which connects Leadville to the Arkansas Valley. While Highway 82 does become Independence Pass and closes seasonally (typically late fall through late spring), the section leading to Twin Lakes and Parry Peak Campground usually remains open for much of the year, depending on snow conditions. This makes it a relatively easy drive from many parts of Colorado, especially from the Front Range via US-24 to Leadville, then south on CO-82. For those coming from western Colorado, access is also via US-24 or other state highways leading to the Twin Lakes area.
The ease of access, combined with its stunning alpine setting, makes Parry Peak Campground an excellent choice for a weekend trip or a longer vacation. Its proximity to both natural wonders and the historic town of Leadville (just a short drive north) means campers can easily combine their outdoor adventures with opportunities for exploring local history and amenities.
Super Clean Vault Bathrooms: A standout feature praised by visitors, the campground maintains exceptionally clean vault bathrooms, a significant comfort for campers and often a deciding factor when choosing a site.
Friendly Campground Hosts: The presence of "real cool" and welcoming campground hosts enhances the overall experience, providing assistance, local information, and ensuring a pleasant atmosphere for all visitors.
Variety of Campsites: Parry Peak Campground offers sites suitable for both trailers/RVs and tents. While many sites may cater to trailers, dedicated tent-only sites like #25 provide options for different camping preferences.
Access to Water Source: For tent campers, particularly, sites near the creek offer convenient access for filtering personal water, which is a valuable resource in a natural setting.
Picnic Tables and Fire Rings: Most campsites typically come equipped with picnic tables and fire rings, essential amenities for cooking and enjoying evenings around a campfire.
Waste Disposal: Designated areas for waste disposal are usually available, promoting responsible waste management and helping maintain the campground's cleanliness.
Beautiful Creek Access: A significant highlight is the beautiful creek that runs through or alongside the campground. This provides not only a serene soundtrack to your stay but also opportunities for fishing (with a Colorado fishing license) or simply enjoying the tranquil sounds of flowing water. It's noted that the water can be fast-moving in mid-June, which is important for families with small children to be aware of, but it’s perfect for filtering water.
Fantastic Mountain Views Everywhere: The campground lives up to its name, offering breathtaking "fantastic views everywhere." Campers are treated to panoramic vistas of the surrounding peaks, including some of Colorado’s iconic Fourteeners, creating a truly majestic backdrop for your outdoor experience.
Ideal Tent-Only Sites: Specific tent-only sites, like #25 mentioned by a reviewer, are situated perfectly, often just steps away from the water, providing a more secluded and intimate camping experience for those without RVs.
Wildlife Viewing Opportunities: While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, campgrounds in this part of Colorado are frequently visited by local wildlife, including deer, elk, and various bird species, offering opportunities for nature observation.
Proximity to Twin Lakes Activities: Beyond the campground itself, visitors have easy access to the activities offered by Twin Lakes, including boating, kayaking, fishing, and exploring the charming historic village.
Gateway to High-Altitude Hiking: The area around Twin Lakes is a launching point for numerous high-altitude hiking trails, including routes up Mount Elbert, Colorado's highest peak, and other challenging treks. This makes Parry Peak an excellent base camp for avid hikers.

Parry Peak Campground Reviews
This is a great little campground with super clean vault bathrooms. It was nice to meet the hosts they were real cool. The creek is beautiful and there are fantastic views everywhere.
Jul 11, 2022 · Michael MageeAwesome location! Mostly sites for trailers, but we stayed at site #25 (tent only) which was perfect. Only a few steps away from the water, which was moving very fast mid-June, so I wouldn't recommend to families with small children but perfect spot to filter your own water.
Jun 19, 2022 · Dan BairdA gem. If you have a trailer and can get site #24 you will be happy. It's the best site and we scored it somehow. The sites on the entrance side of river are good, flat, easy to pull into and provide just enough space from your neighbor. NO HOOKUPS HERE. We did cruise 5 minutes to White Star Campground to dump for $10 so that was easy. You could also fill fresh water there I believe. No water at Parrys though.
Jul 21, 2019 · Ryan Parker100% 5 star review! One of our absolute favorite campgrounds. We've stayed in a couple spots however I'm not going to say the numbers because we have our favorite spots. Grounds are clean, quiet and the camp host is amazing. The camp host is nice and personable, I cant say enough great things about him. Thank you for the great experience (and we're glad we stayed the extra night).
Aug 17, 2024 · Holli HerdegenNice first come first serve Forest Service campground. I was able to get the next to last open site at 2 pm on a Thursday afternoon. Sites look clean, pit toilets are clean. Nice camp host. Sites are gravel, they are not long driveways, but fairly level.
