Paris Springs Campground

Campground ★4.0

Forest Rd 427, Preston, ID 83263, USA

4.0
Nice little campground tucked away around the mountainside. There are 12 campsites. If you get one along the south it's next to the creek. Of the 12, 2 of them are fairly large group sites. There were 2 outhouses for everyone to use. There is potable water piped to most of the campsites to a spigot. There is a permanent camp table and benches and a nice fire pit to use. The camp host said there have already been two people who left fires going this year already (June) when they left the campsite. The trailhead for Paris Springs is on the Northwest side of the campground. It's about a 10-minute hike full of beautiful views. - Glenn Stimpson

Paris Springs Campground Introduce

For Idaho locals, the quest for a quiet, scenic camping spot away from the crowds is a constant pursuit. Tucked away on a mountainside in scenic Paris Canyon, just a short distance from the stunning Bear Lake Valley, lies Paris Springs Campground. This isn't a sprawling, bustling RV park; it's a small, intimate campground with only 12 sites, offering a sense of seclusion and tranquility that is increasingly rare. It’s a perfect spot for those who appreciate the simple beauty of nature—the sound of a gushing creek, the clear night sky for stargazing, and the peaceful rustle of quaking aspens and pines.

Paris Springs is a true hidden gem, providing a primitive yet equipped experience. It’s a place where you can pull your vehicle right up to your site, yet still feel completely immersed in the wilderness. The campground’s charm is enhanced by its proximity to the natural spring that feeds the Paris Creek, a truly amazing sight to witness. As one reviewer noted, the water "emerging from the ground and forming a gushing creek within a few short feet" is a testament to the raw, natural beauty of the area.

While it's a peaceful spot, it's also a great base camp for adventure. From hiking trails that lead to beautiful views to ATV routes that connect to the wider trail system, there's plenty to do for those who want to explore. The campground’s small size also means it remains relatively quiet, even on a busy holiday weekend like Labor Day, as highlighted by a satisfied visitor. This makes it an ideal spot for those who seek a genuine escape without sacrificing accessibility to the outdoors.

This article will provide a comprehensive and factual guide to Paris Springs Campground, detailing its location, amenities, and the many reasons why it's worth choosing for your next outdoor getaway in southeast Idaho.

Location and Accessibility

Paris Springs Campground is located on Forest Rd 427, near Preston, ID 83263. It's situated in scenic Paris Canyon, approximately five miles from the small town of Paris and about 20 miles from the shores of Bear Lake. The campground sits at an elevation of about 6,600 feet, which provides a welcome respite from the summer heat and offers a lush, forested environment with plenty of shade.

Access to the campground is via an improved dirt road, which, while passable for most vehicles, may be a bit tight for longer trailers. One review mentioned that sites 5-9 are pull-through but can be a little tight for a 28-foot trailer, suggesting that larger RVs or motorhomes might have difficulty. However, most vehicles, including cars and smaller trailers, should have no problem navigating the road and parking on-site. The on-site parking is a key convenience, allowing you to easily access your vehicle and all your gear throughout your stay.

The campground’s secluded location gives it a quiet, tucked-away feel, yet it’s close enough to the town of Paris and the Bear Lake area to make day trips easy. This blend of remote tranquility and nearby attractions is a perfect combination for many campers. You can enjoy the peace of the mountainside and then head to town for a famous raspberry shake or a tour of a historic landmark.

Services Offered

  • RV Water Hookups: The campground offers potable water piped to most of the campsites via a spigot. While it may not be a full hookup in every sense, having running water at your site is a significant convenience for RV and tent campers alike, providing a source for drinking and cooking.

  • Public Restrooms: There are two outhouses available for campers to use. While basic, these public restrooms are well-maintained and provide a necessary facility in a primitive camping environment. It's a key service that makes the camping experience more comfortable.

  • Tent Sites: The campground is well-suited for tent camping, with several sites available that are perfect for pitching a tent. Some are situated along the creek, offering the pleasant sound of running water throughout the night. Two of the 12 sites are designated as fairly large group sites, perfect for multiple families or a large party.

  • Picnic Tables and Fire Pits: Each campsite is equipped with a permanent camp table and benches, along with a fire pit. These essential amenities make setting up camp easy and provide the perfect setting for cooking meals and gathering around a campfire.

Features / Highlights

  • Creek-side Camping: One of the most enchanting features of the campground is its proximity to Paris Creek. Several sites along the south side of the campground are located right next to the creek, providing the soothing sound of running water and a beautiful, natural atmosphere. It is also an excellent spot for fishing.

  • Proximity to Paris Springs: Just a 10-minute hike from the campground is the trailhead that leads to Paris Springs. Visitors can witness the remarkable sight of water gushing from the ground, forming the creek that runs through the campground. This is a unique natural wonder and a major highlight of the area.

  • Family and Dog Friendly: The campground is noted for being "good for kids," with plenty of space to explore. The presence of a creek and nearby trails makes it an exciting place for children. Additionally, dogs are allowed, making it a great choice for pet owners who want to bring their furry companions along.

  • Access to Area Attractions: While tucked away, the campground is a fantastic base for exploring the surrounding area. It's close to the Bear Lake Wildlife Refuge, a haven for birdwatching, and the charming town of Paris, which offers a free tour of the historic Paris Tabernacle and is known for its delicious raspberry shakes.

  • Quiet and Peaceful Atmosphere: With only 12 sites, Paris Springs is known for being quiet and peaceful. The limited number of sites helps to maintain a sense of solitude and prevents the overcrowding that is common at larger campgrounds.
