Oregon's diverse landscapes provide countless opportunities for outdoor recreation and peaceful escapes. However, finding a venue that can comfortably accommodate larger groups while still offering an authentic, unpretentious experience can be challenging. Paradise Trail Christian Camp, often referred to as Paradise Trail Lodge, fills this niche admirably. It embodies a sense of history and community, making it particularly suitable for gatherings that prioritize shared experiences and a break from the everyday. This article will explore the specifics of what makes Paradise Trail Christian Camp a noteworthy option for local Oregonians, covering its location, the unique facilities it offers, its distinct features, and how to get in touch to plan your next group event.
Paradise Trail Christian Camp is nestled at 39 Rd, Rhododendron, OR 97049, USA. This address places it in the charming community of Rhododendron, within the scenic Mt. Hood National Forest area. For Oregonians residing in the Portland metropolitan area, Salem, and other communities in the Willamette Valley, the drive to the camp is relatively straightforward, typically following US Highway 26. Rhododendron is a well-known gateway to many of Mt. Hood's recreational offerings, making the camp conveniently located for those eager to explore the mountain's year-round activities.
The camp’s location offers a fantastic balance of accessibility and immersion in nature. While it feels wonderfully secluded amidst the forest, it's not so remote that getting there becomes a challenge, even for larger vehicles or groups. Proximity to Highway 26 means that local towns like Welches and Sandy are within easy reach for any last-minute supplies, dining options, or emergency services. This convenience, combined with the stunning natural surroundings, makes Paradise Trail Christian Camp an excellent choice for local groups who want to feel truly "away from it all" without being cut off from essential amenities. The journey itself is picturesque, winding through tall timber and offering glimpses of the mountain, setting the tone for a relaxing and inspiring retreat.
- Group Lodge Accommodation: The primary offering is the historic lodge, designed to accommodate large groups. It features numerous bunks for big groups, complemented by a few private bedrooms, making it suitable for diverse group needs.
- Well-Equipped Kitchen: The lodge boasts a large kitchen area, complete with two refrigerators and two stoves, making it ideal for groups to prepare their own meals. Guests are advised to bring specific cooking pots, pans, and all desired food and beverages beyond basic essentials.
- Common Areas for Gathering: The lodge includes various common spaces like living areas with couches and chairs, suitable for relaxation, meetings, or social activities. There’s a sofa bed downstairs for additional sleeping options or for those with limited mobility who might find the steep stairs to upstairs bedrooms challenging.
- Updated Bathrooms: Recent remodels have ensured that the bathrooms are clean, spacious, and modern, providing a comfortable experience for guests.
- Heating: A propane gas heater is provided for warmth, crucial during cooler seasons, especially given the location at the base of Mt. Hood.
- Basic Cleaning Supplies: The camp provides essential cleaning supplies, though guests are expected to maintain cleanliness during their stay. A cleaning fee may be charged if additional services are required post-stay.
- Optional WiFi and TV: For those who need to stay connected, the lodge offers Wi-Fi and a television, though the camp encourages disconnecting to fully embrace the getaway experience.
- Fireplace: While noted that the fireplace was awaiting rebuilding and functionality in past reviews, once operational, it will provide a cozy ambiance for gatherings, especially during cold weather. Guests should bring their own firewood.
- Historic Lodge Experience: Paradise Trail Christian Camp offers the unique charm of an old, historic lodge. This rustic appeal, combined with ongoing improvements, creates an "old lodge adventure" rather than a luxury hotel experience. This blend of updated and rustic features is a significant draw for those seeking character and a sense of history in their retreat.
- Adaptable for Various Group Sizes: The lodge is large enough to accommodate groups of up to 25 people, yet it maintains a cozy and intimate atmosphere. This makes it versatile for a range of gatherings, from large family reunions and youth camps to smaller spiritual retreats or corporate team-building events.
- Proximity to Mt. Hood Activities: Its location near Mt. Hood means a wealth of year-round recreational opportunities are readily accessible. During winter, skiing, snowboarding, and playing in the snow (as mentioned in a review) are popular. In warmer months, hiking, fishing, and exploring the forest trails are easily enjoyed. This makes the camp an excellent "base camp" for mountain adventures.
- Dedicated Christian Camp Vision: As a "Christian Camp," its vision focuses on using the outdoor setting to foster fresh encounters with faith, strengthening individuals on their spiritual journey. This intentional environment may appeal strongly to church groups, youth ministries, and faith-based organizations looking for a purpose-driven retreat location.
- Outdoor Service Capability: Meadow Springs Community Church annually holds an outdoor service here, indicating that the natural setting is conducive to open-air gatherings and spiritual reflection, which is a unique highlight.
- Ongoing Improvements: The owners are "slowly making improvements" while respecting the historic nature of the building. This shows a commitment to enhancing comfort and functionality while preserving the lodge's original character.
- Opportunity for Disconnection: While WiFi and TV are available, the camp's rustic nature and beautiful surroundings actively encourage guests to "get away from life for a weekend," promoting true relaxation and connection with each other and nature.

Paradise Trail Christian Camp Reviews
Meadow Springs Community Church meets here annually for an outdoor service. The lodge is rustic but in such a wonderful place to visit and relax. We enjoy visiting for a weekend to play in the snow.
Jan 23, 2022 · Mark NicholsonAwesome old lodge. Steep stairs inside to bedrooms. So not great for limited mobility. But there is a sofa bed downstairs. Lots of bunks for large groups. And two nice private bedrooms too. Once fireplace is rebuilt and functional, it will be a perfect getaway. If your looking for luxury, keep searching. If you are up for an old lodge adventure this is the place for you. The owners are slowly making improvements. But it is an historic building. So they have to keep things originally designed. Bathrooms are nice as the latest remodel. Clean and spacious. Kitchen is large and has two fridges and two stoves. Bring your own cooking pots and pans beyond the very basics which are on hand. And bring all you will want to cook. Lodge is a fun blend of updated and rustic. Lots to do on Mt.Hood once your there. There is a tv and WiFi if you must have it. But it's great to get away from life for a weekend.
