Orland Buttes Campground Introduce
For Californians seeking a refreshing escape into nature, Orland Buttes Campground at Black Butte Lake offers a picturesque setting for your next outdoor adventure. Nestled amidst the scenic foothills of north-central California, this campground provides a serene environment perfect for those looking to enjoy lakeside activities and a true camping experience. While it's essential to stay updated on its operating status due to temporary closures, Orland Buttes remains a beloved spot for its natural beauty and recreational opportunities, promising a memorable getaway for fishing enthusiasts, boaters, and those simply looking to unwind by the water.
Orland Buttes Campground is conveniently located at 19225 Newville Rd, Orland, CA 95963, USA. This places it approximately eight miles west of Orland, California, making it an accessible destination for many Northern California residents. The campground is situated on the shores of Black Butte Lake, a significant feature that defines much of the area's recreational appeal. Black Butte Lake is known for its warm-water fishery and its expansive waters, which are ideal for both powerboats and sailboats. While the campground offers a beautiful lakeside experience, it's worth noting that direct access to the lake from some sites may involve steep terrain. The boat launch, while usable, has been described as somewhat narrow with driftwood and rock debris, so caution is advised for boaters. It is crucial for prospective visitors to check the latest updates on the Recreation.gov website or contact the campground directly, as Orland Buttes Recreation Area, including the campground, has experienced temporary closures due to limited staffing availability, particularly for the 2025 recreation season beginning May 19, 2025. This temporary closure is a measure to prioritize visitor safety and environmental protection, and it is anticipated that all existing reservations for the impacted period will be automatically canceled and refunded.
Orland Buttes Campground offers a range of services designed to provide a comfortable, albeit rustic, camping experience. While it does not provide water or power hookups at individual campsites, it includes essential amenities that enhance your stay and promote responsible recreation. The campground focuses on providing fundamental facilities to support a traditional camping environment near the lake. Here are the key services available:

- The campground is pet-friendly, allowing dogs in designated areas, ensuring a fun experience for the whole family.

Orland Buttes Campground Reviews
*Update - Orland Buttes Recreation Area will temporarily close for the 2025 recreation season on May 19, 2025, due to limited staffing availability. Check Recreation.gov website for updates.Campground was clean, and had several dumpsters for campers use. Boat launch is pretty narrow and has a lot of driftwood and rock debris, but it is launchable for our truck and boat. The wind made us stay on land our second day due to the swells made launching not possible. Campsites are mostly adequate. Many of the sites do not have level parking, so double check site photos if you have an RV. No water or power at the campsites. Beautiful lake good for fishing and boating, we had a fun weekend fishing for Black Bass.
May 27, 2025 · Diane PoncianoAbsolutely beautiful campground with good walking areas near by. Good place for my dog and lovely views. The bathroom shower is broken and looks like it has been that way for a while. The fish cleaning sink is broken and has been wrapped with flagging tape so likely has been like that for a while. No host on site.
Apr 13, 2025 · John ClokeOrland Buttes is a hidden gem for mountain, biking and hiking. The trails on the backside of the lake are fairly steep and not for the faint of heart. There are a lot of fingers and inlets to explore, which adds quite a bit of mileage to a trip around the lake.the campground is well-maintained. We saw Osprey, bald eagles, and deer.
May 05, 2024 · John ShanahanMy wife and I have been coming to this campground for twenty years usually in the spring for the birding and kayaking, for us the location ideal. However the facilities in general is definitely in need of repair or replacement. Some water faucets do not work, railings are unsafe, many trails are over grown...volunteers can only do so much. And the good news is Park Management has a shiny new office park and corporation yard....
May 11, 2025 · Calvin HamiltonIt was late July, so it was hot... but what a nice campground. You can not get a camping pass at the machine. Only day passes, and annual memberships? Camping must be reserved and paid for on line. I did get great signal tho. Nice views of the lake. Epicsunset. And QUIET. super quiet. Couldn't hear the highway 9.8 miles away... So nice. All I could hear was the waves lapping at the beach, and the frogs. Lots of bugs, lizards, etc, but I slept like a baby.
