Olive Ridge Campground Introduce
For those of us in Colorado who cherish the peace and beauty of the mountains, Olive Ridge Campground offers a quintessential high-country camping experience. Located near the charming mountain community of Allenspark, this campground provides a serene and immersive natural setting, ideal for escaping the urban hustle and reconnecting with the great outdoors. Unlike some of the more bustling campgrounds, Olive Ridge maintains a tranquil atmosphere, making it a favorite for campers seeking quietude among the towering trees and fresh mountain air. It's a place where the sounds of nature prevail, and the starry nights are truly magnificent, free from light pollution.
Olive Ridge is particularly appealing to Colorado locals because of its authentic feel and strategic location. It strikes a perfect balance between being readily accessible from Front Range cities and offering a genuine sense of wilderness. Imagine waking up surrounded by mature ponderosa pines and aspens, with abundant shade keeping your campsite cool and comfortable. This campground is more than just a place to stay; it's a basecamp for adventure, a peaceful retreat, and an opportunity to create lasting memories in one of Colorado's most beloved regions. While it embraces a more rustic approach to amenities, this simplicity is precisely what draws many to its welcoming embrace, allowing for a truly unplugged experience.
Olive Ridge Campground is conveniently situated on CO-7 Scenic, Allenspark, CO 80510, USA. This placement is incredibly advantageous for Colorado residents, as it lies along a scenic byway that connects several key mountain towns and provides direct access to the eastern side of Rocky Mountain National Park. For those traveling from Denver, Boulder, or Fort Collins, the drive to Olive Ridge is part of the experience, offering stunning mountain vistas and a gradual ascent into the subalpine forests.
The campground’s location on State Highway 7, between Allenspark and Meeker Park at mile-marker 14, ensures relatively easy access even for pop-up campers and smaller RVs, as noted by visitors. While the interior roads are gravel/dirt, they are generally manageable. It's important to note that CO-7, while scenic, is a mountain highway, and conditions can vary with weather, particularly during the shoulder seasons. Always check local road conditions before departing, especially if snow or heavy rain is in the forecast.
One of Olive Ridge's most significant advantages is its close proximity to the Wild Basin area of Rocky Mountain National Park, making it an exceptional launching point for exploring some of the park's less crowded yet equally stunning trails. Furthermore, the charming village of Allenspark is just a short drive away, offering a few basic services, a coffee shop, and a sense of local mountain culture. For more extensive supplies or dining options, the full-service community of Estes Park is approximately 15 miles north, providing another accessible hub for campers.

Olive Ridge Campground Reviews
Beautiful, quiet campground with a very hospitable Camp Host. The site was raked clean when we arrived. Bathrooms are clean and well-stocked. No services including water fill station or dump station but the tree-filled sites with no light pollution are worth the lack of amenities. We'll be back!
Jun 27, 2025 · Kathleen TalkingtonWe enjoyed our overall stay. We stayed in 027 with a pop-up (15') camper and had no issues. The streets were easy to get it into the campground and into our camp spot.Pros:- Beautiful location- Close access to RMNP- Numerous restrooms to use throughout campground- Lots of trees and shade- Quite a few camping spots- Lots of dumpsters for trash around the campground- Very nice campground hostsCons:- Loud; some spots are right by the street so you hear all the traffic- Spigots for water are not working- No lights at night in the bathrooms- Some camp spots don't have a lot of room in between themYou do not get cell service here (we have Google Fi). It does not have electric. We would definitely come back to this campground!
Jun 10, 2025 · Lauren RobinsonWe have camped in this campground many times over the last 3 yrs and love it. Camp host kept things clean and enjoyable in the non reservation loop. But the last week of July 2021 was another story. New camp hosts came in and were not cleaning outhouses or sites, outhouse door handles falling off doors. Even the Olive Ridge Campground sign is falling down. The loops gave 7 inch deep potholes. They are not enforcing campground rules, pretty much people are doing whatever they want. Last night a group of 12 in 4 cars set up 5 tents not on the pad and stayed up till 2:30 am I got no sleep. We won't be back till they figure out the camp host issue, and grade the loops.Since one of the larger campgrounds in RMP is closed for renovating Olive Ridge is very competitive for finding a nice site.
Jun 30, 2025 · D PThis is the place to stay!! It isn’t as chaotic and busy as the campgrounds in the Park, but it’s also a fairly close drive to Estes Park and RMNP. Wild Basin is just up the road! The host, Curt, is a great guy, keeps the campground in order and cleans the bathrooms daily. I really have no complaints, it made our trip just that much more enjoyable.
Jul 27, 2024 · Paige WingeIn response to Alexander Napiers review...Please note that there are many signs posted as you enter the campground discussing a fire ban in the area. As a camper, it is your responsibility to know and follow these rules as soon as you come in the campground. The fires you saw were propane fires, these are allowed through this fire ban.I am grateful to the wonderful hosts in this campground for helping to educate our guests with understanding the rules and upholding them. You are lucky that the Forest Service rangers didn't give you the standard $500 fine associated with not following the fire ban.Thank you for visiting our beautiful campground and adhering to the safety rules at all times.
