Old Veteran's Lake Campground Introduce
For Wisconsin residents who truly appreciate the rugged beauty and peaceful solitude of the Northwoods, Old Veteran's Lake Campground in Crivitz offers an authentic rustic camping experience. This is not a resort-style park with extensive amenities, but rather a place where the focus is firmly on connecting with nature. If your ideal camping trip involves spacious, private sites nestled among the trees, and the simple joys of a campfire and quiet surroundings, then Old Veteran's Lake Campground might be your perfect destination.
Situated near Crivitz, this campground caters to those who prefer a less developed setting. It’s a place where you bring your own power and embrace the classic elements of camping. While some may find the lack of electricity, potable water, and a dump station a departure from modern conveniences, for many seasoned campers, these are precisely the qualities that define a true outdoor escape. The emphasis here is on self-sufficiency and enjoying the natural environment as it is.
One of the most consistently praised aspects of Old Veteran's Lake Campground is the spaciousness and privacy of its campsites. Visitors frequently highlight the generous separation between sites, often enhanced by dense woods, which creates a personal sanctuary for each camper. This level of privacy is a premium feature that many larger, more commercial campgrounds struggle to provide, making Old Veteran's Lake a standout for those seeking a secluded experience.
The campground's suitability for fishing is also a recurring theme. With a lake nearby, and particularly if sites along the river are available, anglers will find this location appealing. The quiet atmosphere and natural surroundings create an ideal setting for a peaceful day of fishing, making it a potentially excellent base for fishing trips in the Crivitz area.
For Wisconsin locals, finding a rustic campground that offers genuine solitude and direct access to nature is a valuable asset. Old Veteran's Lake Campground provides just that—a straightforward, no-frills option where the natural setting is the star. It's a place to unwind, enjoy the simple pleasures of camping, and immerse yourself in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
Old Veteran's Lake Campground is located near Crivitz, WI 54114, USA. Crivitz is a popular community situated in Marinette County, in northeastern Wisconsin. This region is renowned as a premier Northwoods destination, characterized by its abundant forests, numerous lakes, and various rivers, making it a hub for outdoor recreational activities.
The campground's precise location provides a sense of being "tucked away" while remaining accessible. It offers a rustic experience, meaning it's often set deeper within natural landscapes compared to highly developed campgrounds. For those traveling to Crivitz, accessing the campground typically involves navigating local roads that lead into the more forested areas surrounding Old Veteran's Lake.
Crivitz itself is well-connected to larger population centers in Wisconsin via state highways, making it a manageable drive for many residents across the state. For instance, it's within a reasonable driving distance from areas like Green Bay, Appleton, and the Fox Cities. This accessibility allows locals to easily escape for a weekend or longer without excessive travel time.
A key aspect of the location, as highlighted by reviews, is its connection to outdoor opportunities, particularly fishing. The presence of a lake (Old Veteran's Lake) and river-front campsites suggests ample access to water for fishing enthusiasts. While specific details on the lake's size or fish species are not provided in the reviews, the context implies a natural body of water suitable for recreational angling.
Additionally, the proximity to a state park (Governor Thompson State Park, a short drive away) offers additional amenities and activities not found directly at Old Veteran's Lake Campground, such as modern showers. This allows campers to enjoy the rustic nature of Old Veteran's Lake while having access to more developed facilities within a reasonable distance if desired. The surrounding area of Marinette County also offers extensive opportunities for hiking, biking, ATV/UTV riding, and snowmobiling, appealing to a wide range of outdoor interests.

Each site is also equipped with a fire pit, facilitating traditional campfire cooking and evening gatherings.
Water is available from a fountain; however, it's crucial to note that reviewers strongly advise against drinking this water due to its rusty or murky appearance. Campers should plan to bring their own potable drinking water. While the fountain water might be suitable for cleaning purposes, it's not fit for consumption.
The campground does not offer electricity at any of its campsites, nor does it have a dump station for RV waste. This absence of modern hookups reinforces its rustic designation and means campers, especially RVers, must be fully self-sufficient regarding power and waste management. Old Veteran's Lake Campground Reviews
I wish I could give it a 2 1/2. This is a rustic campground that cost us, as out of state visitors about $35. The water is not drinkable, it’s red and murky, even after letting it run for a while. There are pit toilets. No electricity and no dump station. They were black flies in late April. If you’re just coming to fish, this might be OK for you. If you’re coming for a family vacation, you may want to look elsewhere. Advantage: The campsites along the river are spacious and private. We stayed here because it was open in late April and a little else was.
Apr 28, 2025 · Lisa K.Sites are very spacious and clean with plenty of woods for privacy between each site. We stayed at site 10. Fire pits are nice. We didn’t see any ticks but maybe it’s due to time of year. Pit toilets only but they were clean so that’s fine. The fountain water is a bit rusty but does fine for cleaning up. Personally I wouldn’t drink it. The swimming hole could use some TLC as it’s a bit over grown but the water was clean and nice to take a dip and for kids to play in. The trails around are nice for walking. A short drive to the state park has very nice and clean family showers. Not much to do at the state park but it’s still nice and quiet. Overall we would go back!

Jun 23, 2025 · Jerad TonnThis state forest campground offers 16 campsites and a small swimming beach. All campsites are reservable on the DNR reservation system. Drinking water is provided at a centrally located fountain; water is not clear but tastes fine.No sites have a lake view but all are spacious. There’s ample spacing and vegetation between most campsites.Governor Thompson state park is just a short drive or bike ride away. Compared to the state park, campsites here cost less and the swimming beach is nicer. Those looking for more amenities may prefer the state park which offers electric sites, showers and restrooms with running water. None of those can be found at Veteran’s Lake.
Jan 29, 2022 · Greg KruegerBeautiful area with lots of wildlife. Clean, working bathrooms and cheap spacious campsites. Only downside is there are tons of ticks, I picked almost 7 off me after walking around the lake area for less than 20 minutes. Ticks are to be expected, but I’ve never had so many on me at once! Just bring tick spray and check yourself every now and then, and you’ll be fine.
