North Lake Campground Introduce
For California residents seeking an unparalleled high-altitude escape, a truly serene experience, and direct access to some of the Eastern Sierra's most breathtaking natural wonders, North Lake Campground offers an idyllic retreat. Nestled amidst towering aspens and with the calming sounds of a nearby creek, this secluded gem provides a tranquil haven for those looking to disconnect and immerse themselves in the pristine wilderness. Whether you're an avid hiker, a keen angler, or simply yearning for peace and quiet under a vast sky, North Lake Campground is a destination that promises unforgettable moments.
North Lake Campground embodies the essence of a traditional, unspoiled camping experience. With only 12 sites, all designated for tent camping, it fosters a uniquely quiet and intimate atmosphere, far removed from the hustle and bustle of larger, more developed campgrounds. Its appeal lies in its simplicity and its profound connection to nature. Here, the focus is on the raw beauty of the surroundings: the soothing murmur of the creek, the vibrant colors of wildflowers in spring and aspens in fall, and the invigorating crispness of high-altitude air. This campground is perfect for those who appreciate a more rugged yet comfortable outdoor adventure, where the natural environment takes center stage. Its "first come, first served" policy adds to its adventurous spirit, rewarding those who seek out truly special, less-trodden paths.
North Lake Campground is located at California 93515, USA, high in the Eastern Sierra. Its remote yet accessible location is part of its charm. The journey to the campground itself is a scenic adventure, involving a one-lane road with blind turns leading up to the campground and North Lake. Visitors are strongly advised to take the North Lake turnoff to the right and proceed slowly and cautiously, savoring the stunning views that unfold along the way. Situated at approximately 9,500 feet, the elevation contributes to cooler temperatures and a unique alpine environment. This high-altitude setting means that while the summer offers warm sunshine, the season can be shorter, with the campground typically closing by the end of October or sooner with the first snow event. This accessibility, combined with its secluded feel, makes it a desirable destination for Californians seeking a genuine mountain escape not too far from main routes.

North Lake Campground Reviews
I stayed a week and it was absolutely perfect! I like being in the Sun this time of year and this site is definitely in the Sun! I love being next to the creek, it’s very calming to me. Lock your food up in the Bear lockers not in your car! Only 12 sites, first come first served. Tents only, so it’s very quiet at night. Bugs are gone this time of year due to the temps at 9,500 ft. Sweet. Nice hiking trail to take, or you can fish at North Lake. There are also stables right there if you want to go for a Horseback Ride. Wildflowers in the Spring are incredible up here. Bring your bug stuff! Ran into a Mountain Lion a couple years back in the Meadow by the waterfall! Scary, thank God he ran away from me! I swear you can smell cat urine when you’re around where Mountain Lions are. One lane road up to the campground or the lake with blind turns. Take the North Lake turnoff to the right. Go slow. Colors in Fall are crazy pretty up here. So many Aspens! This campground will close the end of October or sooner with a snow event.

Aug 26, 2024 · donnew1209Beautiful and hi elevation campground. Weather is always nice a cooler. Nice cold creek passes through the campground. Good central location for hikers, fishermen and other nature activities
Sep 01, 2020 · SARKIS ABELThe mosquitos were thick when I visited June 30. Literally swarming. I understand they started up the week prior, but can be variable day to day. Ended up camping down a Sabrina Lake where they were more manageable. Otherwise cool little campground with direct access to Piute Pass and Lamarck lakes trailheads.
