Mount Nebo Campground

16136 State Hwy 155, Dardanelle, AR 72834, USA

4.0
It's a neat park but I found it impossible to locate a map of the campground so I could choose a site I'd be happy with. Ended up right next to the playground (site 25) which stayed noisy and busy well after dark. No sites have any privacy. A few have shade but mine didn't until late afternoon. Arkansas State Parks could really stand to update their reservation site to include maps and photos of their camp sites and cabins. I wasn't super thrilled about the restrooms here either. They were located away from the campground next to the pool, and at the back of the inside of a bathhouse building that houses both the men's and women's restrooms. As a female traveling alone, I didn't feel safe. There were 2 toilet stalls and one shower. The shower did not have a door, only a curtain, also a little scary for a solo traveler. They were very clean though. The trails and scenic drives here were beautiful. Many options for loops. Very peaceful and incredible sunset and sunrise views. Really loved the stone patio overlooking the valley. BTW there is a nuclear power plant nearby. The cabins here look amazing, but there was a 2 night minimum to book. - L G

Location and Accessibility

Mount Nebo Campground is nestled within the scenic Mount Nebo State Park, located at 16136 State Hwy 155, Dardanelle, AR 72834, USA. This prominent location places the campground atop the flat-topped Mount Nebo, rising 1,350 feet above the Arkansas River Valley. The elevated position ensures breathtaking panoramic views of Lake Dardanelle, the Arkansas River, and the surrounding mountain ridges, making it a truly picturesque destination.

The city of Dardanelle serves as the gateway to Mount Nebo, providing essential amenities and services within a reasonable drive from the park. While the campground offers a mountain-top escape, residents can easily access grocery stores, gas stations, local restaurants, and other conveniences in Dardanelle before or after their camping adventure. This balance of natural seclusion with nearby town support is a considerable advantage for campers.

Access to Mount Nebo Campground involves driving up State Highway 155, which is known for its winding and tight hairpin turns. While this road offers a thrilling ascent and spectacular views, it's an important accessibility note for all visitors. The Arkansas State Parks system recommends that "trailers and motor homes over 24 feet not attempt the climb" due to the challenging nature of the road. This information is crucial for RV and trailer campers to consider when planning their trip.

Once atop the mountain, the park itself is relatively compact, though as one reviewer noted, the mountaintop also has private homes, giving it "a suburb instead of a state park" feel in some areas. Despite this, the campground is well-integrated into the park's network of trails and scenic drives. While the campground sites themselves may not offer extensive privacy due to their layout, the accessibility to miles of hiking and mountain biking trails is immediate and seamless.

For Arkansans traveling from different parts of the state, Dardanelle is centrally located and accessible via major state highways, making Mount Nebo a feasible destination for weekend trips and longer vacations. The drive itself, particularly the ascent up the mountain, is part of the unique experience of visiting Mount Nebo State Park.

In summary, Mount Nebo Campground's location atop Mount Nebo offers unparalleled scenic beauty and direct access to extensive outdoor recreation. While the challenging access road for larger RVs is a consideration, its proximity to Dardanelle and its integration within a vibrant state park make it a highly desirable and accessible destination for those seeking a mountain-top camping experience in Arkansas.
