Mora Campground is strategically located near Tererro, NM 87573, USA, deep within the Santa Fe National Forest. This placement is a significant advantage, as it positions campers at the gateway to the stunning landscapes and recreational opportunities of the Pecos River canyon and the broader Sangre de Cristo Mountains. To reach Mora Campground, visitors typically follow State Route 63 north from the town of Pecos.
The drive itself is an integral part of the experience, offering a gradual transition from the more arid landscapes of the lower elevations to the dense, cool forests of the high country. As you ascend, the road, while generally paved, becomes increasingly winding and narrow in certain sections. New Mexico drivers should be prepared for curves and potential slower speeds, especially if towing. Despite these characteristics, the journey is consistently rewarded with breathtaking views and the anticipation of a serene mountain escape.
The campground's proximity to the Pecos Wilderness and its associated trailheads means that outdoor enthusiasts have immediate access to a wealth of activities. From numerous hiking trails that delve into the heart of the wilderness to various fishing spots along the Pecos River, the opportunities for exploration are abundant. For New Mexico residents, Mora Campground offers a relatively convenient and accessible mountain getaway. Its distance from major urban centers like Santa Fe (approximately an hour's drive) and Albuquerque (a bit further) makes it perfectly suited for weekend trips or longer, rejuvenating stays, allowing locals to easily immerse themselves in the natural beauty that defines our state. The beauty of its location is truly in its ability to offer a deep wilderness feel without being overly remote.

Mora Campground Reviews
super beautiful, quiet, clean. Two restrooms, not the prettiest but not the worst either. Amazing views, respectful campers, very nice area. Some sites DO have fire pits, some don’t, but fire restricting in place currently say no campfires whatsoever. Even without the campfire, it was a wonderful weekend
May 22, 2024 · Jackie DrozeWent here was really clean, everything looked really nice. Boards were set up with all the information that you would need to be able to camp. Fishing looked great. Definitely will come back to this place to camp in the future, wish I got to camp this time, but it was just to look around.
Aug 25, 2021 · Eric LuchettiLove the location which is nestled between the Mora and Pecos rivers. Be sure to stop and look at the map at the beginning of the state park, this loop is farther up than Google or I suspected. Most sites are along the river but are close and straight in, so no easy view of the river from the unit. I wish they had put them on the diagonal. Ranger comes by which feels good. The area is beautiful. Aging Vault toilets (bring a flashlight). No potable water. It’s very dark at night so possibly good star viewing if the sky is clear. If you fish, be sure to have a license, they do check. Not a great kid place, no playground. NO CELL SERVICE. This is a great place to GET AWAY from it all.
May 11, 2022 · Lisa K.Made reservations for 2 sites, drove up prior to reserved dates, road to get there was challenging, narrow and pot holesbathroom was disgusting and apparently had been cleaned that morning, sites are very close together. I returned home and canceled my reservations within 20 days of reservation dates and still had to pay $17.00 cancelation fee for 2 sites.I left several messages at the phone number given and unfortunately no one was willing to call me back.
