Please keep in mind- I’m the least picky person when it comes right campsites and rarely leave bad reviews. This place was shockingly disappointing. Let me just start with if you have a yurt or site # 4 out of the 4 campsites. It could be a different experience. The ad clearly says no RVs or trailers- I get that. We have a small passenger van (close to the same size of my Jeep Grand Cherokee- which wouldn’t have fit either) We paid $70- which by the way- is insane even if you’re in site 4 for what you’re getting. We pull up to our site which is directly on the main road/ access road to the other sites. We couldn’t fit our vehicle what’s so ever- it would hung out in the road & blocked cars where they would have to pass and the tent site was overcrowded with weeds and mosquitoes. Within one minute of pulling up- we decided it would not be acceptable to stay there. We figured we would at least use the showers since we would be out the $70 we paid for A CAMPSITE. We pulled into a turn around and proceeded to use the showers- which by the way.. 5-8 minute walk with mosquitos attacking you to use any of the communal amenities. I was greeted by Terri and I was very nice and explained we would have to stay elsewhere because vehicles can’t fit there and not one time did I ask for money back or be rude and I received a dirty look and “My description clearly states RVs can’t fit there” which I didn’t appreciate because I was just going to use the showers and leave and she could have cared less that I was put in this predicament. Her ad even mentions “car camping” which is all we were trying to do. Outside of the whole experience- showers were nice but the campsites are an absolute joke and I’d go with any other one in the area on Hip Camp. We did- for $50 less and it ended up being a great night :) - Haley Calhoun

Location and Accessibility

Mooseshroom Yurt Retreat and Campground is strategically located at 1165 Old Hwy 2 E, Columbia Falls, MT 59912, USA. This address places it in a highly desirable area of Western Montana, offering excellent accessibility to some of the state's most iconic natural attractions. Most notably, it is situated just seven miles from the west entrance of Glacier National Park, making it an ideal base for daily excursions into the park's breathtaking landscapes, famous hiking trails, and scenic drives.

The campground's location off Old Highway 2 E means it's easily reachable by paved roads, which is a significant convenience for travelers. However, it's worth noting that its proximity to Highway 2 and a nearby railroad means there can be occasional road and train noise. While some guests find this minimal and quickly subsiding at night, it's a consideration for those who are particularly sensitive to ambient sounds. Despite this, the property is described as a "quiet sanctuary" tucked away, suggesting efforts are made to create a peaceful environment within its nine acres of wooded landscapes.

Accessibility within the campground itself requires careful consideration of vehicle type, particularly for tent campsites. While the ad states "no RVs or trailers," recent customer reviews indicate that even some smaller passenger vans or vehicles similar in size to a Jeep Grand Cherokee may find it challenging to fit into certain campsites without protruding into the main access road. It appears that specific sites, like "site #4," might offer a different experience in terms of space. The campsites are designed more for "car camping" in smaller vehicles or tent setups where gear is walked in from a designated parking spot. Guests are advised to clarify vehicle suitability directly with the owner prior to booking, especially if they have a larger vehicle or a significant amount of gear.

The communal amenities, including showers, bathrooms, and the kitchen, are located in a "commons area." While these facilities are praised for their cleanliness and maintenance, reviews mention they are a "5-8 minute walk" from some campsites. This walk, particularly through areas with potential for mosquitoes, is part of the experience and should be factored into planning.

Beyond Glacier National Park, Mooseshroom offers relatively easy access to other popular Western Montana destinations, including Flathead Lake and the charming town of Whitefish, which are within a reasonable driving distance, providing additional opportunities for dining, shopping, and recreation.

Services Offered

Mooseshroom Yurt Retreat and Campground distinguishes itself by offering a combination of unique accommodations and well-maintained communal services, designed to enhance the glamping and camping experience. The emphasis is on a comfortable and convenient stay with shared facilities.

  • Yurt Rentals: The retreat features several yurts, including a distinctive "mushroom-shaped yurt" and others (e.g., "Glacier Yurt," "Lost Paddle and Pole"). These yurts are equipped with beds (ranging from twin bunks to king-size), and some may include amenities like electric fireplaces, fans, and basic kitchenettes with sinks and mini-fridges. Most yurts are pet-friendly.

  • Tent Campsites: In addition to yurts, there are a limited number of traditional tent campsites (reportedly 4 or 5 spots in total). These sites are designed for tent setups and "car camping" with smaller vehicles, as larger vehicles like vans or RVs are generally not accommodated.

  • Communal Bathrooms: The campground offers clean and well-maintained communal bathrooms with flush toilets. Reviewers consistently praise the cleanliness of these facilities.

  • Hot Showers: A significant highlight frequently mentioned by guests is the availability of unlimited hot water in the communal showers. Towels are also reportedly provided, adding a touch of convenience not always found in campgrounds.

  • Communal Kitchen: A shared kitchen area is available in the "Commons" building. This area is noted as being "well-stocked" and "wonderful," often including amenities like a microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and some basic kitchen essentials like spices, pots, and pans. This allows campers to prepare their own meals comfortably.

  • Communal Fire Pit: Guests have access to communal fire pits near the Commons area, providing a shared space for campfires and socializing.

  • Parking: Designated parking spaces are available. However, campers with larger vehicles should confirm suitability directly with the owner, as some tent sites may have limited space.

  • Pet-Friendly: The retreat is generally pet-friendly, allowing furry companions to join in the adventure, particularly for yurt rentals.

  • Wi-Fi: While not explicitly detailed for all areas, some yurts or communal areas may offer limited Wi-Fi access, providing a connection to the outside world if needed.

  • Adults-Only/Age Restrictions: It's important to note that the retreat sometimes operates as an adults-only (12 and older) establishment, creating a different environment compared to family campgrounds.

Guests are advised to bring bug spray due to potential mosquito presence, especially when walking to communal amenities.

Features / Highlights

Mooseshroom Yurt Retreat and Campground offers several distinctive features and highlights that set it apart and contribute to its unique appeal in the Montana camping scene:

  • Proximity to Glacier National Park: One of its most significant advantages is its location just seven miles from the west entrance of Glacier National Park. This provides exceptionally convenient access to the park's iconic sights, hiking trails, and recreational opportunities, making it an ideal home base for exploring one of Montana's greatest treasures.

  • Unique Yurt Accommodations: The availability of yurts offers a "glamping" experience that combines the immersion of camping with enhanced comfort. These yurts often come with comfortable beds, heating (like electric fireplaces), and sometimes even small kitchenettes, providing a cozy and memorable alternative to traditional tents or RVs.

  • Exceptional Communal Amenities: A recurring highlight in guest reviews is the cleanliness and quality of the common areas, particularly the bathrooms with flush toilets and the "unlimited hot water" showers. The well-equipped communal kitchen is also highly praised, allowing guests to cook and enjoy meals with ease. This thoughtful provision of shared facilities significantly enhances the camping experience.

  • Peaceful and Quiet Atmosphere: Despite being near a highway and railroad, many guests find the overall environment to be "very peaceful" and a "quiet sanctuary." The property aims to offer a serene retreat, ideal for unwinding after a day of exploration.

  • Dog-Friendly Environment: Being a pet-friendly establishment means that visitors can bring their furry companions along, adding to the enjoyment of their Montana adventure. The presence of friendly resident animals, like a "furry little neighbor that roams the grounds," can also add a charming touch.

  • Personalized Hospitality: Reviews frequently highlight the friendly and accommodating nature of the owner, Terri, who contributes significantly to a positive guest experience. This personal touch helps create a welcoming and comfortable atmosphere.

  • Adult-Friendly Environment: Operating as an adults-only (12 and older) retreat can appeal to guests seeking a quieter and more mature atmosphere, potentially free from the noise and activity often found in family-oriented campgrounds.

  • Eco-Friendly Practices: The retreat often emphasizes an eco-friendly approach, aligning with the values of many outdoor enthusiasts who seek sustainable travel options.
