Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday Introduce
For Michigan residents looking to escape the everyday and immerse themselves in the joys of camping, finding a reliable and feature-rich campground is key. If your travels take you to the southeastern corner of the state, near the Ohio border, then Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday in Petersburg offers a well-known name in the camping world. As a KOA Holiday, this campground aims to be more than just a place to park your RV or pitch a tent; it strives to be a destination packed with amenities and activities designed for memorable family vacations.
KOA campgrounds, or Kampgrounds of America, are a familiar sight across North America, known for their consistent standards and wide range of amenities. The "Holiday" designation within the KOA family signifies a campground that offers more robust amenities and services, making it an ideal basecamp for extended stays and family fun. Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday embraces this ethos, providing various ways to stay and activities to keep everyone entertained.
Recent guest experiences offer a mixed but ultimately hopeful picture of the campground. One reviewer noted, "Our overall camping experience was fine however there are some improvements that need to be made to the campground." They specifically highlighted issues with water pressure and supply, stating, "The campground well is not working and they are running off of a tank which is refilled every few days or more often dependent on occupancy. The first time this happened we lost water pressure completely and were only told after my husband asked one of the employees. The next day we did get a text about 15 minutes after they started filling." They also experienced delays due to the water truck blocking the road upon checkout. However, this reviewer also expressed optimism: "This being said, there are upgrades in process and the campground does have potential to be great in the next year or two. It would have been nice to know the water issue up front so I would suggest communication improve so that campers can plan accordingly."
Another reviewer shared a frustrating experience regarding long-term rental reservations, describing a communication breakdown and a sudden change in policy: "Called to reserve a campsite for a month on Tuesday 5/13. Young lady told me that they had a couple of sites open and that I would be able to utilize the monthly rate... I received no call so to follow up, I called on Friday 5/16. A different lady answered the phone and I explained that I had not yet received a call... This lady proceeded to tell me that they were no longer taking long term rentals and that I would have to pay the daily rate of $86/night." They expressed frustration at the lack of follow-up and the sudden policy shift.
It's important to acknowledge that the campground has faced significant challenges, including tragic drowning incidents in its former swimming pond, leading to its permanent closure and removal. As of Spring 2025, construction is actively underway to replace this with a new multi-million-dollar water recreation area, including two pools and a splash pad, with hopes of opening by Summer 2026. This extensive upgrade signals a strong commitment to revitalizing the campground and enhancing the guest experience moving forward. Despite past issues and current construction, the potential for a significantly improved experience in the near future is evident.

Our overall camping experience was fine however there are some improvements that need to be made to the campground. The women’s bathrooms were clean, however they smelled like a swamp. The campground well is not working and they are running off of a tank which is refilled every few days or more often dependent on occupancy. The first time this happened we lost water pressure completely and were only told after my husband asked one of the employees. The next day we did get a text about 15 minutes after they started filling. Upon checkout it was being filled again and the water truck was completely blocking the road and we had to wait nearly a half hour to leave. This being said, there are upgrades in process and the campground does have potential to be great in the next year or two. It would have been nice to know the water issue up front so I would suggest communication improve so that campers can plan accordingly.
May 26, 2025 · Kim FrabottaCalled to reserve a campsite for a month on Tuesday 5/13. Young lady told me that they had a couple of sites open and that I would be able to utilize the monthly rate and save a significant amount of money but that she could not reserve it as the Manager deals with all long term rentals. She took my number and said he would contact me when he returned on Thursday 5/15. I received no call so to follow up, I called on Friday 5/16. A different lady answered the phone and I explained that I had not yet received a call to reserve the long term site but the manager had not returned my call. This lady proceeded to tell me that they were no longer taking long term rentals and that I would have to pay the daily rate of $86/night. I explained again that I had just spoken to a young lady 3 days prior and I was given different information and that this was very aggravating for the rule to change all of a sudden. She quickly stated that she would have the manager return my call to discuss further taking my name and number. I have still not received a call.
May 17, 2025 · Christopher Wallerbed bugs in cabin!!!Do not recommend !!! I have camped here for years with tent camping only: skipped last yr due to construction, thought we would try a cabin this year and got attacked by bed bugs.. management tried his best to help us and accommodate us. But instead of having a relaxing weekend we ended up being stressed out and living out of garbage bags due to throwing away all bags, pillows and blankets. I want to spread the word because I do believe that the cabin I was in was infested and I do not believe they are doing anything to fix the problem..Here is a picture of my arm after day 2. I did get a few bites the first night but I have never dealt with bed bugs before and thought there misquotes or something else in there. After the second night I woke up in tears…
Jun 15, 2025 · Liane DayPretty nice place lots of things for children a quarter of a section is under construction. We tent camp and it was very quiet at night park.10.00 a night per pet fee is the other thing keeping us from coming back.
Jun 07, 2025 · Jeff AllanWe recently bought a camper and this campground is close enough to our home that we can make weekend trips without having to worry about taking time off work. They are doing some major upgrades at the time and not very busy.
