Memorial Park Campground is idyllically located at 600 Memorial Park Dr, Washburn, WI 54891, USA. This prime address places it on a bluff directly overlooking Lake Superior's beautiful Chequamegon Bay, offering campers some of the most breathtaking views in Wisconsin. Washburn, a charming and historic harbor town, provides a quaint backdrop and easy access to local amenities and attractions.
Accessibility to the campground is generally good. While the park is heavily shaded by large, old-growth pine trees, which add to its charm, reviewers note that it is best suited for smaller RVs and tent camping due to the maneuvering required among the pines for accessibility to some campsites. Larger RVs can access the park via 3rd Avenue East to Memorial Park Drive or Superior Avenue to Memorial Park Drive to avoid a 16-foot archway clearance on 6th Avenue East. Despite some tight spots, many large campers, including 30-foot fifth wheels and bigger rigs, have successfully navigated the campground, demonstrating its capability to accommodate various sizes. The park roads are a mix of paved and unpaved, all-weather gravel access roads. The convenience of being within Washburn means that necessities like groceries (e.g., IGA) and gas stations are just a short drive away, making it a practical choice for extended stays. The scenic drive to Washburn through Wisconsin's landscapes further enhances the anticipation of a relaxing lakeside retreat.

For Wisconsin locals, Memorial Park Campground in Washburn offers an exceptionally suitable and highly desirable camping experience, embodying many of the qualities Wisconsinites seek in an outdoor retreat. Its blend of natural beauty, convenient amenities, and flexible access makes it a top choice for a memorable getaway close to home.
The most compelling reason for locals is the unparalleled lakeside setting. Being on a bluff overlooking Lake Superior's Chequamegon Bay provides stunning vistas and a refreshing breeze, a coveted feature that truly defines a Northwoods experience. Unlike some larger, more exposed campgrounds, the abundant shade from tall pine trees ensures a comfortable temperature, even on warmer summer days, allowing for more enjoyable outdoor time. This natural climate control is a significant advantage for those looking to escape the heat.
The accessibility of electric hookups at every site caters to a wide range of camping styles, from those with large RVs to tent campers who appreciate modern conveniences. The ample and accessible water spigots throughout the campground further enhance comfort, meaning less hassle for water collection. While the showers require quarters, the presence of clean facilities, regularly maintained, and a responsive camp host system, are appreciated features that make staying comfortable. The fact that the restrooms are cleaned daily is a testament to the campground's commitment to visitor satisfaction.
For families, the playground and open field provide excellent spaces for children to play, while the pathway to the lake offers easy access for shoreline enjoyment. The quiet and friendly atmosphere creates a welcoming environment, perfect for relaxation and reconnecting with loved ones without excessive noise or crowds often found in larger, reservation-heavy parks.
The first-come, first-serve policy, while requiring some planning (like arriving before late afternoon), can be a huge benefit for locals who might not plan months in advance. It offers flexibility for spontaneous trips, a luxury often not found at fully reservable campgrounds. The ability to accommodate various camper sizes, from small tents to large fifth wheels, ensures that almost any local can find a suitable spot.
In summary, Memorial Park Campground is an ideal destination for Wisconsin locals because it delivers a quintessential Northwoods camping experience with the added benefits of Lake Superior views, practical amenities, and a welcoming, peaceful environment. It’s a place where you can easily find your slice of paradise, enjoy the best of Wisconsin’s outdoors, and create lasting memories, all within a comfortable distance from home. It truly stands out as a premier local camping option.

Memorial Park Campground Reviews
We spent 5 nights at this campground. After driving around the entire Lakeshore area, our conclusion was that this was the best campground to be at. Reason for not giving 5 stars was the placement of some of the sites and the shower house. Some were so close together and felt extremely crowded. Others were huge and would have fit as many people as 3 weirdly positioned sites. The water front sites in left loop were stunning but of course unavailable. Every site has electric. Water spigots are abundant throughout the campground. Tall pine trees provide shade and the breeze from the lake makes the campground such a perfect place to be temperature wise. We were on the loop to the left away from the shower house area. We liked that area best. Downside for tent campers is that the only bathroom is in the other loop. The shower house has 2 showers a piece for both men and women. It requires 3 quarters. The back shower has perfect water temp. The first one is lukewarm. The shower runs forever and I could not get it to stop. What a waste of water. It needs to be addressed. Otherwise shower and bathrooms are clean. First come first serve campground. Sites become available every day so if you get there before late afternoon you should be able to get a site. We camped in a 30 foot fifth wheel. Plenty of sites could accommodate us and there were bigger campers in campground. Very quiet and friendly campground. We enjoyed our stay here. Dump station does not have a potable water hookup but all the potable water spigots will allow you to hook a hose to them to fill RV tanks.
Jul 28, 2024 · Stephanie RickelsWe have camped at this campground nearly every year of my life. The improvements they've made over the years are greatly appreciated by us. The location is beautiful, the sites are not too close together and there are many options for either tent camping, or camper camping regardless of the size camper you have. There's a playground for kids and an open field to run around in. There's also a pavilion for events, and a pathway down to the lake with a little creek at the far end of the park. The facilities are well maintained and include showers, toilets, and sinks. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and it is easy to notify the camp hosts if something needs attention. The showers take a minimum of 3 quarters to operate, with each quarter buying you additional time. The water pressure isn't great, but we're just grateful for the ability to get clean when we are camping. Our two biggest complaints would be the wood there is never EVER dry. If you need firewood, go to the IGA or one of the gas stations in town. It's a lot more expensive, but at least you'll be able to have a fire! And we would also appreciate knowing how long a quarter buys you in the shower!
Oct 02, 2023 · Marit WituckiSites 7, and 9 are seasonal and are trashy looking and 8 was not mowed or trimmed. We requested to 2 young people trimming in the park when we arrived on July 24th to trim our campsite #8 and they said they would but didn't, other than that it's ok.
Jul 27, 2024 · RICK CONLEYThey have a beautiful view of Lake Superior. The bathrooms are always pretty well maintained. The playground is a little outdated but it works. There are swings a slide and some rocking animals to sit on. There is a nice pavilion for party's or picnics. And a neat little path to the water.
May 31, 2023 · shanighnighWe stayed 6 days in this really quiet, clean and peaceful campground. Even though it was full of dogs and kids, unlike other campgrounds we’ve stayed in, there was no barking, no running children in other sites…really well behaved and considerate. The only negative is that the dump is at the wrong angle so it is impossible to get a good clean out and the hose is useless for rinsing.
