For local Mainers seeking a camping experience, Meadowbrook Camping Area presents itself as an option within the charming Phippsburg region. The suitability of this campground for locals largely depends on individual expectations and priorities, especially when considering the insights shared by previous visitors. As Mainers, we value clear communication and a reliable outdoor experience, and understanding the nuances of any local establishment is key.
The location in Phippsburg is undoubtedly a draw for those looking to explore the MidCoast area. Its proximity to beautiful beaches like Popham Beach State Park and the historical significance of Fort Popham offers appealing day trip opportunities. For local residents, a short drive to a new environment can provide a much-needed break from the routine, and Meadowbrook’s location facilitates this access to regional attractions without requiring extensive travel. This ease of access makes it a potential choice for spontaneous weekend getaways or for those who prefer to stay closer to home while still enjoying the camping lifestyle.
However, it is crucial for potential local visitors to consider the feedback from past campers. Concerns regarding site leveling, water quality, and electrical issues, as highlighted in public reviews, are important factors to weigh. Mainers are often resourceful and adaptable, and understanding these potential challenges beforehand allows for better preparation. For instance, bringing additional leveling equipment for RVs or ensuring you have robust water filters could be prudent steps. Similarly, being aware of reported electrical inconsistencies might influence your decision, especially if you rely heavily on electrical hookups for your camping setup.
The "family-owned" aspect, while often a positive indicator of personal touch and care, needs to be balanced with the reported customer service experiences. For many Mainers, supporting local businesses is important, but so is receiving a fair and positive experience. The refusal of a refund as mentioned in one review, along with the reported temperament of the camp, suggests that direct communication and clear expectations before booking are paramount.
Ultimately, Meadowbrook Camping Area could be suitable for locals who are flexible, well-prepared, and prioritize location over potentially refined amenities. If you're a seasoned camper with your own equipment to mitigate unlevel sites or brown water, and you're primarily looking for a base to explore the beautiful Phippsburg area, this campground might still be a viable option. For those who value consistent services, level sites, and a consistently smooth experience, it would be wise to contact the campground directly to discuss their current conditions and perhaps consider alternative options that align more closely with those specific preferences. It's about finding the right fit for your unique Maine camping adventure.

Meadowbrook Camping Area Reviews
Well here ya go, we travel all over this great country and we love staying at family owned camps but this is not the place. First impression is an old house and trailers that look to have been here for a decade. Secondly the lot they gave us was horribly un level so making it a lot of work to get set up. The spot was nearly all dirt, the grass was far away from our door leaving us to step in mud to get in. We Requested a refund for one of the two nights and that was quickly refused. Proof of the condition and temperament of the camp. I strongly suggest NOT making this one of your memorable stops in the beautiful state of Maine.
Jul 29, 2024 · Mike McgrothersI value the reviews left here, so I felt I needed to leave an honest review in hopes it will help someone else.We stayed here for almost 2 weeks. During that time there was a sewage smell near the bathhouse. The sites are not level and most are not shaded or very wide. We also had brown water and were extremely thankful for our multiple water filters. We paid for a 30 amp service, but had low voltage the entirety of our stay. The solution that was proposed, was that we remove our Watchdog EMS and Surge protector. We decided to keep our Watchdog on. They had several campsites on the same breaker, something we have never seen at any campground in our 3 years of travel. On our last day, we didn't even have enough voltage to keep fans running inside our RV. Please be aware that low voltage seems to be an ongoing problem as an RV behind us had an electrical cord burn up while we were there.
Aug 03, 2024 · Joy PeopleNot like the pictures. Trashy campground. Unlevel sites. They advertise a Good Sam Campground but don't give you the discount. I asked when I arrived and was told they would write it down and ask the owner about the discount. He was tired and would get back to me. We arrived half hour before check- in and was told we could not check-in. Then they made an exception when I asked them which road they wanted blocked with the 38ft motor home pulling the pick-up. When hooking up the sewer cap was screwed on so tight it was cracked so the previous camper just pulled the whole fitting off and stuck their sewer hose down the pipe. I had to take the fitting to the office and they just stuck a new one over the pipe with no glue. The 30 amp electric service only showed 3 amps. I had to ask again for them to fix it. There was lots of confusion trying to find the breaker box location so they just went from box to box in the campground and finally told me my site wasn't marked anywhere in any box. About an hour later my power was restored. The owner never contacted me about the Good Sam discount or credited my account. The location of the campground was great for area destinations. Area is awesome for Freeport, Bath, Portland.
Jun 10, 2024 · Alan BowmanBeautiful place! Great spots and so close to so many other amenities.
May 14, 2025 · Juli-Ann MarshallBig campground with a little of everything. Rough hilly roads to the outskirts and along the water for some amazing wooded tent sites and nice easy access up front for the RVs. Great general store and a country setting. Not fancy but has it all, including many showers and a laundromat that wasn't busy. Bugs were minimal even by the marsh, late August. The lobster (crazy amazing thing to have it delivered freshly cooked to our tent at 8pm) was better than the Virginia Eastern Shore lobster we tried a couple weeks ago. Great gem of a campground.
