McCloud Bridge Day Use Area

Fenders Ferry Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA

4.0
Camped over the weekend with family. It was great! Super hot during the day and the water is warm so we wouldn't go again in the middle of summer but that isn't the campgrounds fault at all. When looking for reviews we couldn't really find many pictures of the campsites themselves so I made sure to take some. Within the first couple hours of being there we saw a bear, a snake, and deer swim across the water which was cool. - Breanna Thorsted

McCloud Bridge Day Use Area Introduce

Nestled along the scenic McCloud River Arm of Lake Shasta, the McCloud Bridge Day Use Area offers a versatile and inviting outdoor experience for Californians seeking natural beauty and recreation. More than just a day-use spot, this location also provides a charming campground, making it a fantastic choice for families and individuals looking to immerse themselves in the tranquility of Northern California. With its combination of excellent picnic facilities, ample shade, and direct access to the expansive waters of Lake Shasta, McCloud Bridge promises a memorable and relaxing escape into the heart of the Shasta-Trinity National Forest.

Real customer reviews highlight the dual appeal of McCloud Bridge. Campers found it "great!" for weekend stays, noting sightings of "a bear, a snake, and deer swim across the water which was cool," underscoring its rich wildlife. While acknowledging the "super hot during the day and the water is warm" in mid-summer, this is a natural characteristic of the region, not a fault of the campground. For day visitors, it's described as "Very very nice," equipped with "bbqs, picnic tables, shaded areas, very beautiful all over." One reviewer vividly recounts a "very quiet time fishing" and observing "a baby Fawn, like 10 different color type size butterflies," emphasizing the area's serene beauty and biodiversity. The "hell of a winding long road getting there" is noted, advising visitors to be prepared for the journey, but the consensus is clear: "this place is beautiful, will be going again, happy trails." The unexpected "drop off" under the water and "soggy dirt under water like suction cups" also add a humorous, if challenging, element to water entry.

Location and Accessibility

The McCloud Bridge Day Use Area is located at Fenders Ferry Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA. This places it directly on the McCloud River Arm of Lake Shasta, within the sprawling Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Lakehead is a small community in Shasta County, serving as a popular access point to Lake Shasta, renowned for its vast recreational opportunities.

Access to McCloud Bridge involves navigating Fenders Ferry Road. Customer reviews caution that there is "a hell of a winding long road getting there." While this might mean a slower journey, it contributes to the area's secluded and peaceful atmosphere, filtering out casual visitors. The road is typically paved or well-maintained enough for standard vehicles, but the winding nature requires careful driving, especially for those towing trailers or RVs. It is always advisable to check current road conditions, especially during or after inclement weather, with the Shasta-Trinity National Forest. Despite the journey, the destination rewards visitors with direct lake access, making it a prime spot for those coming with boats, kayaks, or simply looking to enjoy the water. The relative remoteness ensures a tranquil experience away from the busier sections of Lake Shasta.
