Access to the FamCamp requires entry onto Maxwell Air Force Base. Eligible users, including active duty and retired military personnel, reservists, DoD civilians, and their families, can enter through designated gates. It is important for all visitors to be aware of base access requirements, including presenting a valid DoD-approved access credential. The location within the base offers several advantages. Guests are close to base facilities such as the Exchange (BX), Commissary, and other support services, providing convenience for daily needs. Although some reviews mention potential detours due to road construction on base or initial challenges finding the FamCamp, once inside the gate, March Road typically leads directly to the camping area. Maxwell Air Force Base FamCamp Reviews
The Maxwell famcamp experience for ACSC and AWC students can be the absolute best way to experience school if you love a close knit family environment made up of your new best friends you've never met! Where community meals are the norm, SEC football on Saturday is a given, and there's never a stranger around...this place is epic because of the people that live here. I was fortunate enough to be apart of this neighborhood for nearly two years as a student and I absolutely loved it. As far as the campground goes, it's just what you need...the basics. The facilities are a bit run down but the view of the lake is wonderful and the playground is a great place to let the kids run off some excess energy while the adults swap stories over a couple beers. The ambiance is usually very peaceful with a few occasional exceptions: the traffic noise usually isn't too bad and you'll get used to the 2AM train horn. Be sure to bring your best party shirts as the Venue just off base keeps the bass bumping into the wee hours of the morning on the weekends (but seriously, don't go there). The ODR folks are generally quite friendly but will lack knowledge on anything outside their immediate wheelhouse but that's started to change recently. Be sure to bring lots of ant killer, wasp spray, and anti mosquito everything. Box fans and tiki torches help in the summer time for sure. The grounds are reasonably well maintained most of the time by the prisoners but they will occasionally get a little close with a weed eater and slice open your sewer hose. The dudes usually keep to themselves but are generally friendly and will say hi if spoken to, just don't ask for favors...it's not within their control. If you've never camped before there are usually campers for sale starting in the early spring, many fully furnished and ready to be plopped down at a site. Just bring your clothes, bourbon, and settle in with some Clausewitz (or not) for a great year at Maxwell AFB.
May 19, 2025 · Garrett KarnowskiBeautiful campground. Has all the usual amenities. There was some noise from the highway at night and from trains, but nothing super disturbing. Our son really enjoyed the parks in this base. If only Montgomery had more fun things to do, we would have wanted to stay longer
Oct 23, 2024 · Jessica PenaWhen we arrived there was no one anywhere to tell us where to go and no one ever answers the phone when you call. We have a 36ft motorhome with 4 slides, 2 on each side, it was a tight squeeze wuth the covered patio area at the site we were in. The covered patio gave us almost no room and we had to get right on the edge of the pavement into our neighbors small grass patch. The park would be better if they just removed it, honestly it adds nothing and looks terrible. The park is quiet and the people staying are very nice.
Nov 10, 2023 · Brianna HNice setting, needs updating, only one washer working in the whole camp, yard maintenance is lacking but it is a great place to rv.
