Mavreeso Campground

4.0
Beautiful campground with water (just a turn of the spigot; no pumping needed); trash pickup in bear-safe boxes; wood for sale from the camp host (Tim was fantastic and kept the bathrooms super clean); river access for fly-fishing with plenty of areas devoid of brushy banks; large pit toilet bathrooms that are lighted inside and out; options for both RV camping with some electric hook-ups and tent camping with wooden picnic tables and metal drum fire rings with grills. We were here in mid-Sept. and the temps were 45 degrees at both 8:30 pm and 9am with daytime highs of 60-65 degrees. We'll be back! - Martha Lochert

Location and Accessibility

Mavreeso Campground is conveniently located at 42020 Road 38, Dolores, CO 81323, USA. This places it approximately 20 miles northeast of the small, charming town of Dolores, Colorado, within the San Juan National Forest. Accessing the campground involves taking Colorado Highway 145 and then turning onto West Dolores Road (Forest Road 535). The drive along West Dolores Road is scenic, winding through beautiful forested areas and alongside the river.

While the initial part of the road is paved, it transitions to a gravel surface. Travelers, especially those in larger RVs or towing trailers, should be aware that portions of the road can be steep and narrow. However, as noted by an RV owner, it is generally navigable for Super C motorhomes and other large vehicles, although caution is always advised. The relatively remote setting ensures a peaceful experience, yet it's still close enough to Dolores (about a 25-minute drive) for essential supplies, though it is highly recommended to come prepared with water and groceries, as cell service can be limited. This balance of seclusion and accessibility makes Mavreeso an ideal retreat for Colorado locals looking to truly unplug.
