Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park Campground is designed for those who appreciate a more rustic and natural camping environment, where the focus is firmly on the breathtaking natural surroundings and outdoor activities. Reviews highlight the stunning beauty of the forest, the Mattawamkeag River with its captivating rapids, and the dramatic outcrop rocks along the canyon walls. It’s a place that evokes a sense of timelessness, with visitors even imagining historical scenes of indigenous people traversing the land. Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park Campground Reviews
August 11, 2024 - Split review . . . My wife and I love Maine’s natural beauty, every time we’re in State we visit & explore ! ❤️😃We hiked along the Mattawamkeag River , into the Mattawamkeag Wilderness Campground. Past reviews mention lots amenities & pavilion for camping. The park office was closed, as we walked around the campground, we didn’t see a pavilion, no bath house or restrooms? A few picnic tables, and fit pits in disrepair? The breathtaking beauty is clearly seen in the forest, river, water rapids , outcrop rocks along canyon walls. I expected to see Indians passing us , while on their return to their tribe from hunting ! We stopped at Lower Gordon Falls for a lunch break.I’d love to return in the autumn, for a repeat hike ! The maple trees would provide a colorful landscape of yellows, oranges, and red among the foliage!Or maybe bring our snowshoes for an early winter hike in December? There are smaller trails cut into the woods for snowmobiles! We noticed small signs marking ATV club trails.I would guess that there’s fish 🐟 throughout the streams & river that run through this wilderness park! The water looked so clean , and brisk as I stepped in to test the temperature!

Aug 17, 2020 · Becky NoyesThe crown jewel of the entire area. The Mattawamkeag Wilderness Park and Campground is one of the most unique places in Maine. If you visit the state, make it a point to venture to this one-of-a kind Campground. The river, the hiking trails, camping area, you will not regret it. Working on a FULL Review.
May 13, 2019 · syn edgēAmazing place! Best Campground I've visited! A little of everything ✨️ Will return always my favorite new spot!
Jul 01, 2024 · Miss CFirst time visiting. First camping trip with my father over Father's Day. Dad's pick and I could, in no way, have been any happier anywhere else! History. Beauty. Clean. Friendly. Amazing!Shower access. Garbage bins at each campsite. Good sized sites. Playground and rec room. All in walking distance really. I plan on asking at the office if they may need a hand hanging things up, moving wood, whatever I am capable of doing to help.
