Mason County Campground Introduce
Welcome to Mason County Campground, a peaceful and scenic retreat located just minutes from the bustling town of Ludington, Michigan. For Michiganders seeking a camping experience that combines natural beauty with convenient access to a wide array of activities, this campground is an exceptional choice. Unlike the larger, more commercial camping resorts, Mason County Campground offers a quiet, relaxed atmosphere that feels both safe and welcoming. It is a fantastic option for families, couples, and solo travelers alike, providing a high-value experience at a very reasonable price point.
The campground’s identity is rooted in its simplicity and natural charm. It is "not a glamping place like KOA or Vacation Station," and that is precisely what makes it so appealing to those who prefer a more traditional and serene camping experience. The sites are well-shaded by a beautiful forest canopy, offering a comfortable and refreshing environment without being too buggy. Each site is thoughtfully equipped with a fire ring, a charcoal grill, and a picnic table, giving you everything you need to enjoy an evening outdoors. This focus on core amenities, coupled with a calm atmosphere, ensures that campers can truly unwind and enjoy their surroundings.
Mason County Campground is also an excellent base for families. It is proudly "good for kids," with a playground that has been praised by visitors as "fun for all ages." The single paved loop within the campground is a great feature for children to ride their bikes safely, adding to the family-friendly environment. Beyond the campground itself, there are "kid-friendly hikes," allowing families to explore the beautiful landscape together. This dedication to providing a welcoming space for children is a significant part of what makes Mason County Campground a local favorite. The park is well-maintained and provides a sense of security, which is highly valued by parents.
The campground is also very accommodating to RVers. Many of the sites offer both "RV electric hookup" and "RV water hookup," with some providing full hookups with sewer connections. The availability of these amenities makes it a convenient and comfortable choice for those traveling in a motorhome or trailer. The park also features clean, top-notch bathrooms and showers, which are a major highlight for many guests. While the showers require a quarter for seven minutes of hot water, this minor detail is easily outweighed by the overall quality and cleanliness of the facilities.
Mason County Campground is a particularly great option for those looking for an alternative to the often-crowded and difficult-to-book state parks in the area. As one reviewer noted, it has become a go-to spot for people who can't get reservations at Ludington State Park. It offers a similar proximity to Lake Michigan and other local attractions without the overwhelming crowds. The staff is consistently described as "super nice" and "friendly," contributing to the overall positive and welcoming vibe of the park. Their helpfulness ensures that your stay is as smooth and enjoyable as possible, adding a personal touch that you won't always find at larger establishments.
The park's location provides a unique mix of a quiet, forested setting and easy access to a variety of activities. The hydroelectric reservoir across the road is a fascinating sight, and the short 12-minute drive to Ludington means you are close to the town's many shops, restaurants, and beautiful beaches. The campground also features a disc golf course and is near Hull Field, an airfield for radio-controlled model airplanes, offering unique entertainment options right on the grounds. This blend of on-site features and nearby attractions makes Mason County Campground a versatile and appealing choice for all types of travelers.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is mostly a campground for RVs, but if you’re looking for a place to stay near very busy Ludington, the cabins here are very affordable and clean. You need your own sleeping bag and pillow but they are a great option and they weren’t listed on 3rd party sites so it’s worth calling these folks directly. Super nice staff as well!
July 19 · Lauren HoltI think this is one of the nicest and quietest places to camp. There is a charcoal grill on every site, a fire ring, and really nice bathrooms. Sites are well-shaded by the forest canopy, but it is not buggy or uncomfortable. I was able to maintain a FREE campfire all week by just using ground deadwood and dried leaves. It was awesome, and my kids loved it. The showers are also top-notch, but they require a quarter. It will get you seven minutes. It's not a big deal to me. I only ever use 4-5. The hydroelectric reservoir is across the road, which is neat, and the grounds are 12 minutes to Ludington.Wifi works great. It's not a glamping place like KOA or Vacation Station, but I prefer the quiet. Nice campground and nice paved loop for the kids to ride bikes. At $35/night, the place is awesome and has a high dollar to value ratio.
July 16 · Mike YarosI'm a travel nurse, and was in a bind trying to find a campground, as I am contracted here in Ludington. The staff here at Mason Co Campground were able to accommodate me....AND....assist me in parking my RV. The gentleman even brought me some firewood so I could "relax and enjoy", something I haven't been able to do since I found myself stranded (the holiday week and all campgrounds being full). They went totally ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me, and I just cannot say enough about them here. It's a beautiful, quiet area with mature trees offering shade and privacy. A true GEM. The staff are angels. Thank you ALL!!!
July 01 · Kimberly HansenFantastic campground tucked out of the city with lots of trees. Bath house is clean and the showers are great too. The tinderbox disc golf course is within walking distance which is a great way to get outside and exercise to anyone who’s never tried it. The office even has discs you can borrow for free! 10/10
July 06 · Jared OwenWe love camping here in the fall. It's nice and quiet. Staff is always very nice an accommodating. The disc golf course this year was very fun for our boys. They could throw an come back to camp if they got tired half way thru. It kept them busy. Which with a group of 8 family's an 14 boys under 12 that is a must. We even played a few rounds of glow disc golf as well.
