While the vast majority of visitors rave about the cleanliness, facilities, and staff, it's worth noting that like any popular campground, experiences can sometimes vary, especially regarding noise levels. The management strives to maintain a pleasant environment, but the convivial atmosphere of a family-friendly campground can occasionally lead to lively evenings. This is a testament to its popularity and the vibrant community feel it often fosters. For those who prioritize peace and quiet above all else, it's advisable to communicate your preferences when booking, as site selection can sometimes influence the ambient noise level. However, for most, the overall positive experience, excellent facilities, and friendly staff far outweigh any minor inconveniences, reinforcing its status as a beloved coastal retreat.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA Journey is ideally situated at 44300 Kinney Rd, Manchester, CA 95459, USA, placing it directly on the beautiful Northern California coastline. This location offers convenient access to the Pacific Ocean, with roads and an access trail leading directly to Manchester Beach. The campground is strategically positioned, being about five miles south of Point Arena and approximately 30 miles south of the charming village of Mendocino. This prime coastal placement ensures guests are surrounded by natural beauty while still being within reach of local attractions and towns.
Access to the campground is generally straightforward, though travelers should be mindful of the winding nature of Highway 1 (Shoreline Highway), which is characteristic of the California coast. For those approaching from the east, specifically via Highway 128, it's crucial to note that GPS systems may sometimes recommend Mountain View Road. This route is strongly "not recommended" for those towing trailers or driving large RVs due to its extreme winding nature, steep 16% grade, and narrow, sometimes single-lane sections with sharp turns and drop-offs. Instead, it is advised to "continue on 128 until Hwy 1 Navarro Bridge and turn left over bridge towards Point Arena," and the KOA will be about 25 miles south on Highway 1, with a right turn onto Kinney Road. This guidance ensures a much safer and more comfortable journey for all types of vehicles.
Despite its coastal, somewhat secluded feel, the campground's location provides excellent accessibility to nearby towns for supplies and further exploration. The small town of Manchester, located about a mile from the campground, offers a grocery store and Ace hardware for convenience. Slightly further afield, towns like Point Arena and Gualala provide additional gas stations, markets, and restaurants. For a wider range of services and attractions, the city of Fort Bragg is approximately 38 miles to the north, and the picturesque village of Mendocino is around 30 miles north. This balance of remote coastal beauty with accessible town amenities makes Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA Journey a practical and desirable destination for Californians.
The ease of reaching the campground, coupled with its direct trail access to Manchester Beach, significantly enhances the visitor experience. Guests can enjoy beachcombing, tide pooling, and simply enjoying the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean with minimal travel. This combination of straightforward travel routes and immediate access to coastal recreation solidifies its position as a top choice for a convenient and fulfilling California coastal getaway.

Manchester Beach / Mendocino Coast KOA Journey Reviews
Camping with families. Dog friendly. We got a deluxe cabin with access to own shower, tub and toilet. It also included a bunk bed and a full size bed. Great for families of four. We have a BBQ pit and a firewood ring. We went end of June right before the 4th of July. You need to bring a light sweater since it’s cold at night. Need to bring your own toiletries, blankets and pillows. We have access to coin laundry as well. There’s a TV and you can rent a dvd if you got the cabin. This koa included heated pool and access to Manchester beach. It’s about a few miles to the light house as well.
Jul 06, 2025 · Janet Arqui. Momtraveler1Well - it’s clean, great bathroom/shower facilities, lovely campsites. All one might ask for, right? But if you want a quiet and peaceful camping experience- don’t count on management to do anything about campers who stay up drunk until midnight laughing and hollering. Even after complaining to the front desk about the same neighbors playing country music starting at 9am (that can be heard from 8 sites away) that said that they can’t ask them to turn it down. I’ll never stay here again. We’re all paying to be here - stop pandering to rude guests.
Jun 13, 2025 · Christopher GeboGood spot to camp! Right next to the water and incredibly calm area of Manchester. Staff is friendly and accommodating, including extending our check out time and assistance with navigation. Tent sites along Kinney Road are a bit more noisy with folks coming/leaving, would recommend maybe a further site away from where we were (T6).
Jun 19, 2025 · KylieGreat KOA. Staff is friendly and site, bathrooms & showers were clean. Laundry worked great and is open 24hrs. Hardly any cell service here. We travel in a van and don't need shore power, they allowed us to camp in a cheaper tent site. Lots of beautiful trees to camp under, we picked a site all the way in the back without trees so we had good starlink service.

I came to realize that that is ONLY FOR RV’s.I have obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and require a CPAP Machine. Thankfully I came prepared with a mini battery pack that worked out that issues, but if I didn’t have that the trip would have been a living nightmare.Staff were awesome when we were there. The only downside is there was mixed info regarding the group site. I was told by one staff it wouldn’t be that cold and then by another that it was one of the coldest of the camp sites that they had. The weather wasn’t the best but that was my fault for poor planning.I would highly recommend this place to anyone looking to escape their large city and wants to go rural for a bit. Cell service is minimal most of the time my phone was in SOS mode. So that was nice because I needed a technology detox.
