This campground offers a quintessential Idaho experience, blending a tranquil forest setting with the essentials needed for a memorable camping trip. Known for its pleasant atmosphere and friendly camp hosts, it's a place where you can truly disconnect and immerse yourself in the great outdoors. From the rustle of leaves in the trees to the gentle sound of a nearby creek, Malad Summit provides a sensory experience that is both calming and invigorating. It is a spot that feels deeply rooted in the local landscape and community, making every visit feel like a return to a cherished place.
The positive reviews from real customers paint a vivid picture of what makes this campground so special. Phrases like "very pleasant" and "will go there again" highlight the welcoming and enjoyable environment. The frequent praise for the camp hosts emphasizes the personal touch and helpfulness that visitors can expect. These hosts are not just managing the grounds; they are actively contributing to a positive and supportive camping community. This sense of care and community is a significant part of the Malad Summit experience, making it feel less like a temporary stop and more like a true destination. The unique anecdotes about friendly squirrels and the peacefulness of the creek further illustrate the charm of this location, showing that even the small details contribute to a fantastic stay.
For families and nature lovers, Malad Summit Campground is a hidden gem. It is explicitly noted as being "good for kids," with "kid-friendly hikes" available. This is a powerful selling point for parents who want to ensure a safe and engaging environment for their children. The opportunity to catch trout in the creek, as mentioned by a reviewer, adds another layer of fun and activity that appeals to all ages. The focus on simple pleasures like picnics and quiet reflection under the trees makes it an ideal place to escape the noise and distractions of modern life.
While a reviewer mentions some potential challenges with large trailers due to narrow roads, it's clear that the overall experience at Malad Summit is overwhelmingly positive. The beauty of the surroundings, the friendly atmosphere, and the peaceful environment are consistently praised. This is a campground that requires a bit of an adventurous spirit but rewards you with a truly authentic and unforgettable Idaho camping experience. The feeling of being away from it all, with minimal traffic and the quiet hours observed by most, creates a perfect setting for rest and rejuvenation.
The Malad Summit Campground is located near Pocatello, ID 83204, USA, within the beautiful Caribou-Targhee National Forest. This high-elevation setting, at approximately 6,100 feet, provides a refreshing escape from the valley heat during the summer months. While the address is listed as Pocatello, the campground is situated roughly 14 miles north of Malad, Idaho, making it a bit off the beaten path and contributing to its peaceful, secluded feel.
Accessibility is thoughtfully considered at Malad Summit. The campground features a wheelchair accessible entrance and a wheelchair accessible parking lot, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity. The on-site parking is a convenience that makes it easy to unload and set up camp. However, as noted in a review, campers with large trailers (over 24 feet) should be aware that the access road can be narrow, and the turnaround at the bottom is tight. This is a key piece of factual information that helps visitors plan accordingly, ensuring a less stressful arrival. For smaller rigs, tents, and hikers, the access is straightforward and well-defined.
The location’s key benefit is its serene, forested environment. The campground is situated next to a creek, which adds a soothing soundscape and opportunities for fishing. It is also off the main road, which keeps traffic to a minimum and enhances the sense of tranquility. Despite its peaceful isolation, it is still within a reasonable drive of other attractions, such as a nearby pond for boating and hot springs, offering a balance of seclusion and accessibility to a variety of activities. The lack of cell signal is a deliberate feature for those who want to completely unplug, and the generous offer of Wi-Fi from the camp hosts, as mentioned in a review, provides an option for those who need to stay connected.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Was very pleasant. The camp Host were very pleasant and seem to do a great job. Trees and creek all great. Will go there again.Went there again for four more nights caught some trout, squirrels were friendlyfunny in trees throwing pine cones . The Camp Hosts were great. Very helpful!!! All in all a fantastic campground. Will go in future for sure
August 30 · Dale RThe restrooms are vaulted but kept clean. The water spigots do not have a way to fill a trailer with unless you get creative. The road in is extremely narrow and will cause anxiety for any trailer over 24'. The turnaround at the bottom is tight and you will end up with some fresh scratches down the side of your rig. So despite the reservation stating 60' allowance, I would be cautious. Other than these items it would have been 5 stars. A nice clean campground with great hikes, views, and not too far away from a small pond to boat/play in, a creek that runs through it, and the hot springs about a 30 minute drive. It is off the main road and has limited number of sites so traffic is at a minimum. Quiet hours are 10-6:00... We did have some neighbors that decided to take that literally and at 6am they fired up old Bertha and our kids were woken up by the pleasant sound of a 1950s generator, your experience may differ. No cell signal at the camp. The camp hosts were generous enough to provide WiFi, again your experience may differ.
June 23 · Adam SmithBeautiful little Campground. Not a good place to bring any R. V. Over 30’ maximum. But for smaller rigs and tents absolutely beautiful and quiet. We have had the privilege of being the camp hosts this year at this little Gem. Every one of our visitors have been wonderful guests
August 09 · marizona gentisNice little campground. Not many people there when we were there. Clean and updated vault toilets. Potable water. Lots of privacy in each campsite. Bugs not bad in August.
September 05 · Kirsten hillExcellent place to stay. Not recommended for larger RVs. Most of the sites are designed for tents with only 12 sites it's a gamble driving up in an RV without a reservation since it's a very popular place to camp with the locals.
