Mahogany Grove Group Campground Introduce
For Nevadans seeking a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life, Mahogany Grove Group Campground offers a unique and peaceful retreat into the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area. Tucked away at a higher elevation, this campground provides a cool, forested oasis, making it a perfect destination to beat the desert heat. Unlike a traditional, single-site campground, Mahogany Grove is designed specifically for groups, providing large, dedicated areas that ensure privacy and plenty of room for gatherings, relaxation, and recreation. It's a place where the grandeur of the Nevada mountains serves as your backdrop, and the simple beauty of nature takes center stage.
The atmosphere at Mahogany Grove is quiet and tranquil. As one recent visitor noted, it’s a place where you can expect to have a site mostly to yourself, allowing for a truly private and immersive camping experience. This sense of seclusion, combined with the campground's thoughtful layout, makes it an ideal spot for family reunions, scout troops, or large gatherings of friends. While the amenities are rustic, they are clean and well-maintained, upholding the standard of a well-cared-for natural space. The campground also holds a piece of history, with remnants of the original Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) developed sites from the 1930s still visible, adding an interesting layer of heritage to your outdoor adventure.
Located within the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest, Mahogany Grove Group Campground is situated at NV-158, Coleville, NV 96107, USA. Its official location is within the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, about 40 miles northwest of downtown Las Vegas. For many residents of the Las Vegas Valley, this makes it an incredibly convenient destination for a quick mountain getaway. To get there, you'll travel on Highway 158/Deer Creek Road, which winds its way through stunning forested landscapes, offering a scenic drive before you even arrive at the campground.
The campground is designed with accessibility in mind. The roads and parking areas are paved, and there is dedicated on-site parking. Visitors note that while you may need to navigate some natural terrain to get to the campsites from the parking lot, the paths are manageable. For those with mobility challenges, a wheelchair accessible entrance and parking lot are provided, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the beautiful surroundings. The campground's elevation of around 8,400 feet means you’ll be enjoying cooler temperatures, crisp mountain air, and a refreshing change of scenery from the desert floor.
The remoteness of the site means there is no cell service, which is a welcome feature for those truly looking to unplug and disconnect. However, friendly and helpful park rangers are available to assist, as one camper mentioned. The area is also an ideal starting point for a variety of outdoor pursuits. The North Loop-Mt. Charleston National Recreation Trail is located less than a mile away, and other trailheads, such as Robber's Roost and the CCC Trail, are also nearby. With more than 60 miles of hiking and horseback riding trails crisscrossing the area, there’s no shortage of things to do.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1The sites are huge with lots of parking and picnic benches. The grill is extra large. The bathrooms are the pit kind without running water but did not smell too bad. Views were beautiful with lots of space between other groups. Note that they do not have running water but rangers told us we could bring containers and fill from a neighboring campsite. Rangers were friendly and helpful.
May 03 · Angela LinQuite and peaceful. I expected more campers sharing the site, but I had it to myself. It can seem hidden to people new to the area, but if you park in the upper parking lot (3-4 car capacity), it is just behind the lot. Don't take the side walk. Go down the rocks and follow the path straight.
July 12 · Raphael WMy 13 year old daughter and I decided last second to go camping. We packed up at sunset wondered around to all the other camp site which were full or closed. And thank goodness because it led us to this one!!!! Beautifully kept up! Clean! Spacious! We had such a great time. My daughter and I are use to roughing it. So that fact of no water, electricity, or cell service didn't bother us a bit. We like it that way!!!I WILL BE BACK AGAIN!!!!
November 04 · Melissa NealI've stayed here 3 times now at mcnutt, smith, and scrugham campgrounds.Awesome place with great places to camp.Scrugham has 7 tent pads and 9 parking spots. Plenty of space for a large group. The reason I give 4 stars is because 2 out of 3 visits the bathrooms had been HORRENDOUS...poltergeist horror movie fly infestations and the stench was awful. Not to mention the stains all over..... to the point we set up our own toilet tent near the dumpster this time.... crazy enough...the park ranger stopped by and threw away our tent AND toilet into the dumpster. I seen him in the parking lot and figured he was just doing his rounds....Later on I went to use it and I was worried it blew away only to find it added up in the dumpster.Didn't even bother to ask if it was ours or anything, we would have moved it if it were an issue....if they don't want anyone using their own toilets they should keep theirs clean.Other than that. Great campsite and plan to visit many more times, and I'll have to buy another tent for our toilet. ;)
May 04 · Carissa RodriguezThese are great smelling candles! I got the cozy bundles during the fall! The packaging was so cute and it was such a treat to open! I am not good with wooden wicks so they are a bit hard sometimes-time isn't always on our side to let it melt to a pool. I had a tricky time with a few candles melting down but I'd say it's probably user error. Looking at purchasing some Christmas scents!
