MAC Campground Introduce
For Florida locals seeking an authentic, less-crowded outdoor experience on the Big Bend coast, **MAC Campground** in the Perry/Steinhatchee area offers a welcoming and conveniently located base camp. Situated just a hundred feet or so off the coast, this smaller, family-friendly campground provides a quiet alternative to the major tourist hubs. The name itself, MAC, is a personal touch, derived from the owners' children (Maverick and Charley), signifying a dedication to creating a great environment for families.
MAC Campground is designed to accommodate both RV and traditional tent campers, offering flexibility for all types of outdoor enthusiasts. While one review mentions a past experience with limited facilities for tent campers, the site is now confirmed to offer **full hookups** (50A and 30A connections) for RVs, and designated **Tent sites** with water and electric hookups. This blend of amenities supports both quick weekend trips and longer stays, particularly during Florida's renowned scalloping and fishing seasons.
The core philosophy here is about location and access to the outdoors. The campground is strategically placed for adventurers who love fishing, scalloping, and hunting, with extensive public hunting grounds nearby. For those who prioritize a quiet setting, room to spread out, and personal attention from the hosts, MAC Campground is a friendly and appealing option on Florida's beautiful, wild coastline.
The location of **MAC Campground** is its greatest feature for users focused on coastal recreation. The address, **270 Tern Rd, Perry, FL 32348, USA**, places it strategically on the coast, near Keaton Beach and roughly midway between Perry to the north and the fishing hotspot of Steinhatchee to the south. This positioning is ideal because it allows campers to be just minutes away from the major water-access points without being in the middle of the seasonal tourist crush.
The campground’s proximity to the Gulf Coast makes it a fantastic launchpad for exploring the Big Bend, including:**
- **Keaton Beach:** A local favorite known for its **beautiful white sand** and a boat ramp. The beach's tidal nature makes it great for swimming at high tide and exploring at low tide.
- **Public Hunting Grounds:** The area is surrounded by extensive **public hunting ground**, popular for deer, turkey, and wild pig hunting.
- **Water Access:** Being very close to the coast means quick access to prime waters for **fishing and scalloping**.
Accessibility at the site is designed for the modern camper. It is accessible via major routes leading to the coast and features pull-thru and back-in sites, many of which are **big rig friendly**. The availability of **On-site parking** ensures convenience for both RVs and accompanying tow vehicles.
MAC Campground offers a robust and essential suite of services, particularly for the RV community. Recent verified information clarifies the full extent of the hookups, making it a reliable choice for extended stays. The key services include:
- **Full RV Hookups:** All sites are equipped with **full hookups**, featuring both **50 Amp and 30 Amp** electric connections, sewer hookups, and **Drinking Water**.
- **Tent Camping:** Provides dedicated **Tent sites** for a more traditional camping experience, complete with **water and electric hookups (15 Amp connection)** and a grass pad.
- **Boat Ramp Access:** The owners offer a **small private boat ramp** for rent (annually), which can save guests from waiting in the often-long lines at the nearby public Keaton Boat Ramp.
- **Basic Amenities:** Essential amenities like designated **Trash** receptacles and a sanitary **Sanitary Dump** station are available for all guests.
- **Recreational Support:** The owners, including Captain Luke, are actively working on obtaining a **Captains license** and plan to offer **charters** for scallop adventures and fishing trips (Reds, Trout, and offshore), providing expert guidance to guests.
- **Pet-Friendly:** **Pets** are allowed, ensuring the entire family can enjoy the Florida coast.
- **Reservable Sites:** Sites are **Reservable**, allowing guests to plan their trips during high-demand seasons.
The features that distinguish MAC Campground highlight its proximity to natural resources and the personal touch of its ownership:
- **Proximity to the Gulf:** The campground is located "just a hundred feet or so off of the coast," offering the sights and sounds of the wild Florida coastline.
- **Fishing and Scalloping:** The location is a **great place for fishing and scalloping**, being close to the water and major boat ramps.
- **Private Boat Ramp Option:** The availability of a rentable **private boat ramp** is a major benefit, allowing guests to bypass public ramp congestion.
- **Quiet, Non-Touristy Vibe:** The environment is noted as being a "much quieter area" away from the hustle of heavy tourist rentals, appealing to those seeking peace and a local community feel.
- **Family-Friendly Focus:** Being a "very family friendly Campground," named after the owners' children, ensures an atmosphere that is welcoming and comfortable for families with kids. It is listed as **Good for kids**.
- **Personalized Hosting:** Customers who have interacted with the hosts, like Sarah, have described them as "very accommodating and fun to chat with," reflecting a high level of personal customer service.
- **Access to Hunting:** The location is a superb base camp for those interested in exploring the nearby **lots of public hunting ground** for deer, turkey, or wild pig hunting.
- **Space to Spread Out:** The sites offer **room to spread out**, an essential feature for comfortable RV and outdoor living.
For reservations, questions about the private boat ramp, or inquiries regarding the potential fishing and scalloping charters, interested Florida users should contact the owners directly. It is advisable to use the contact information provided, especially given the history of communication challenges mentioned in older, non-guest reviews.

For Florida locals, **MAC Campground** is worth choosing for the unmatched combination of essential camping services and exceptional access to the wilder side of the Big Bend coast. It is the ideal base camp for the active outdoors enthusiast—the one whose priority is spending time **scalloping, fishing, or hunting** rather than lounging by a resort pool. The convenience of having **full hookups** (50A and 30A) and the option of renting a **private boat ramp** access are invaluable logistical advantages.
Furthermore, the quiet, low-key setting and the personal touch of the family management create an inviting atmosphere that is less commercial and more genuinely welcoming. While older reviews hint at management transitions and past issues, the consistent praise from recent camping guests for the friendly hosts and the beautiful, quiet environment underscores that this small, family-focused campground is a superb and budget-friendly choice for experiencing the natural beauty of the Perry/Steinhatchee coast.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is a beautiful campground a few minutes away from the hustle of all the tourist rentals. It was a much quieter area and had room to spread out. I was there on a weekday in February and it was just me and the camp host. Sarah was very accommodating and fun to chat with.I tent camped for just $10 a night. There were no toilets or trash cans. But for RVs this would be a great place since there are full hook ups available.
February 11 · Kelly LyonUpdate: Got a call from owner day of post and he said he would send a check but still have not seen payment.Contractors - Beware of the new owners of this campground the Flatin's. They don't like to pay their invoices. They used to live right across the bridge from Dubuque Iowa. We are an Electrical contractor and we have done work for them and they left town. I have left messages on Luke's phone but now the messages are full and you can't leave anymore messages. I have reached out to Jessica and she gave me her new address but no longer is answering me. So just beware about doing any business with them.
December 04 · AG ElectricThis is a small familyrun campground, 8 sites. Everything is new. Full hook up for only 35 USD!. Very nice family. They even lend us their kayaks, and we had a wonderfull trip to the beach through the small canals. We will surely be back, if in the area.
