Lost River Valley Campground Reviews
I went to this campground a few times growing up, and I was finally able to book my first trip as an adult. We went in the off-season (early May) and I highly recommend it to those who want a quiet getaway. The summer months tend to get crowded with campers. We booked a cabin by the river and it was very calming and beautiful. The cabin is bare, so we knew to bring our own supplies and entertainment. Since it was still cold in the evenings, the staff kindly provided a heater for our cabin. They also left a list of recommended restaurants in the area. It was a very peaceful trip, I only wish I had booked longer.

From start to finish, they go above and beyond to make every guest feel welcome and cared for. It’s rare to find a place that blends beautiful scenery with such a warm, professional atmosphere. Whether you’re calling with questions or chatting with staff on-site, you’re treated with kindness and respect. They truly understand what it means to create a memorable camping experience for families. Our first visit was fantastic, and while weather got in the way this time, we’re already looking forward to our return. Can’t recommend Lost River enough, it’s easily one of the best-run campgrounds we’ve ever been to.
May 23, 2025 · Michael O'SullivanI’m so disappointed to write this review because we wanted to love this place so bad! This place has so much potential and I think probably used to be a special place, but there is a ton of updating and maintenance needed. I think we also should have known something was off when they charged a child fee at booking despite calling themselves a family campground. The playground was really run down, I don’t think it’s been cared for in years. Everyone in our family got splinters. I could not imagine people swimming in the pond so do not be mislead by the beach thing (it’s a tiny pond and very mucky), although there are lots of frogs and salamanders for catching which are cool! Also, you have to cross a VERY dangerous highway to get to the pond and playground. The campground is right along a highway so yes you can hear running river water but also trucks and motorcycles all night long! Also the river cabins are very high up and it is very difficult and steep to actually get down to the river. The bathrooms were clean but could use a little updating and basically no shower water pressure. The staff were polite but I wouldn’t call them welcoming. All in all, we left a day early and unfortunately would not return. We thought we were paying for a great family experience but I think this place has forgotten to be welcoming to families based on the playground and the fee for bringing kids, and it all around just felt misleading with the “swimming” pond advertised and river sites that are actually along a highway, etc.
Jun 16, 2025 · Christina CairaWas told by staff that we couldn't have more than one car per site because the fire Marshall said only one car per site. I called several other campgrounds and they allow more than 1 car at a site so I am guessing it is not true. ALSO...they charged us $60 to park our truck up at their camp store. Sixty bucks for 4 days. Surrounding campgrounds charge $5 for the extra vehicle. This is a greedy campground. We will NEVER go back. Hope they enjoyed our 60 bucks because it cost them our business and the 3 families that we regularly camp with. On a good note...bathrooms were clean. Oh yeah...and no wifi or cell phone service.
May 30, 2025 · Tracy GradyDo not recommend at all! This place needs a lot of maintenance. The roads are awful and the sites are not as described. All 4 washing machines and all 4 dryers are broken even though they advertise that they have laundry. When I asked the staff about it, I was told to go to a laundry mat. How did you lay all of your machines break with no repair or replacement?? We stayed in the “Mountain View” side which is mot worth the extra money because you can’t see any mountains from your site. They warn you not to leave food out because of bears but the dumpster in the road is completely overflowing with trash and there are layers of it on the ground. I watched an employee drive by all of the garbage and do nothing about it.This place is totally not worth the money.
