Loop Campground

Campground ★4.0

#1, Dugway, UT 84022, USA

4.0
The drive up is bumpy, but beautiful. Each site has a fire pit and a picnic table. Just one site has 2 picnic tables. We stayed at that double site. We were able to fit 3 tents there. No running water, but a 5 gallon jug did just fine. No dumpsters that I saw, so we drove out our trash. The deer there are very used to people and they came right up to us, sniffing our dinner. - Andrea Millward

Loop Campground Introduce

For many Utahns, finding a peaceful and picturesque camping spot that feels truly removed from the urban sprawl is the ultimate goal. Loop Campground, nestled in the stunning South Willow Canyon near Dugway, offers just such an escape. Managed by the Uinta-Wasatch-Cache National Forest, this campground provides a quiet retreat surrounded by the unique beauty of the Stansbury Mountains. It’s a place where the journey itself becomes part of the adventure, with a scenic, albeit bumpy, drive leading you into a forested canyon that feels a world away from the desert flats below.

This campground is an ideal destination for those who appreciate the simpler things in life: a campfire, a picnic table, and the peaceful sounds of nature. It’s a place where families can bring their kids to learn about the outdoors and where dogs are welcome to explore alongside their owners. While the amenities are rustic, they are a perfect fit for a traditional camping experience. The serene environment and beautiful scenery make it a fantastic base camp for exploring the surrounding area, whether you're interested in a quiet evening of stargazing or a full day of hiking. The remoteness of the canyon ensures a tranquil experience, allowing visitors to truly disconnect and recharge in a setting of rugged, natural beauty.

Loop Campground is located at #1, Dugway, UT 84022, USA. This address places it in the remote but beautiful South Willow Canyon in Tooele County. For those living along the Wasatch Front, the drive to the campground is a scenic one, taking you west towards the Stansbury Range. As noted by visitors, the road leading to the campground can be bumpy, but it offers beautiful views, making the journey part of the overall outdoor experience. The drive is approximately 7.7 miles from the South Willow Canyon turn-off, with the last several miles being unpaved. Due to the rugged nature of the access road, RVs are not recommended, and a careful approach is advised for any vehicle.

The campground’s location at an elevation of 7,400 feet places it in a different climate zone than the valley below, offering a cooler and more forested environment. This makes it an ideal summer retreat. The remoteness also means that a trip here requires a bit of planning and self-sufficiency, but the reward is a beautiful and secluded camping experience. Its position in the Stansbury Range provides access to a variety of trails, including the multi-use Stansbury Front Trail and the Medina Flat Trail, making it a great base for hikers and backpackers.
