Lightfoot Park Introduce
For Missouri residents who cherish the natural beauty of the Ozarks and seek a peaceful, clean retreat with excellent water access, **Lightfoot Landing Campground** (also known as Lightfoot Park) is a highly desirable destination. Managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), this smaller campground is situated directly on the shores of **Pomme de Terre Lake**, famed for its clear waters and some of the best muskie fishing in the country. It is specifically highlighted as a **"smaller campground compared to neighboring park areas,"** which contributes to its reputation as a **"more quiet and peaceful location"** for boating, fishing, and relaxation.
Lightfoot Landing is a developed park, offering the necessary utilities and amenities—like **RV electric and water hookups**—to ensure a comfortable stay while remaining connected to the natural landscape. It is a well-loved spot for local families who return year after year to enjoy the recreational opportunities of the Pomme de Terre River Arm of the lake.
Lightfoot Landing Campground is a public use area operated by the USACE, offering **35 total campsites**—a small number that maintains its quiet, intimate atmosphere. The campground caters to a mix of RV and tent campers, with sites designed to accommodate various equipment sizes. The focus here is on outdoor recreation, particularly water-based activities like fishing, boating, and swimming in the pristine 7,790-acre lake.
Sites typically feature gravel pads, and the surrounding area is well-shaded by mature trees. Patrons often praise the campground's setting, noting that **"most sights one is able to see the lake."** This Missouri gem provides the essential amenities for a comfortable stay, including picnic tables, fire pits, and modern sanitary facilities, making it a reliable and picturesque choice for an Ozark getaway.
The campground is officially located at **Lightfoot Public Use Area, RR 2, Flemington, MO 65650, USA**. The area is accessible via the well-maintained Missouri state road system, often involving a turn onto Highway 83 or RB Highway, leading directly to the park entrance.
Accessibility is thoughtfully addressed, making the park available to all Missourians:
- Features a designated **wheelchair accessible entrance** and **wheelchair accessible parking lot** at main facilities.
- One specific campsite is designated as **accessible**.
- The park provides **on-site parking** at each individual campsite.
- The sites are generally **gravel and long enough to accommodate an RV, car, and boat**, ensuring convenience for boaters.
- The park includes a **boat ramp with a courtesy dock** for easy water access.
The park is open seasonally, typically from mid-April through late September for full service, with limited availability and amenities offered during the shoulder and off-seasons (check USACE website for exact dates and fee structures).
As a USACE facility, Lightfoot Landing provides a robust set of services essential for comfortable camping on the lake. The majority of sites offer premium hookups and amenities:
- **RV Hookups:** **35 sites with electric and water hookups** are available, including 50-amp service on premium sites, catering to all sizes of recreational vehicles.
- **Water & Sanitary:** Features **running water** and well-maintained **public restrooms** and **public showers** (shower house) with hot water.
- **Waste Management:** An on-site **dump station** is provided for the convenient disposal of RV wastewater.
- **Campsite Furnishings:** Each campsite is equipped with a **picnic table** and a **barbecue grill** or **burn pit** (fire ring).
- **Tent Sites:** Dedicated **tent sites** are available within the campground area.
- **Pet Policy:** **Dogs are allowed**, though they must be kept on a leash no longer than 6 feet.
Lightfoot Landing is known for its quiet charm and excellent access to prime Missouri recreation, making it an ideal choice for families.
- **Small and Peaceful Atmosphere:** Its smaller size (35 sites) contributes to a **quiet and peaceful location**, appealing to those who dislike crowded parks.
- **Direct Lake Access:** The campground features its own **boat ramp and courtesy dock**, providing immediate access to Pomme de Terre Lake's excellent fishing and water sports.
- **Family Recreation:** The park is noted as being **good for kids** and includes a dedicated **playground** and **swings**.
- **Scenic Sites:** A key highlight is the potential for **lake view sites**, allowing campers to enjoy the scenery directly from their picnic table.
- **Picnic Opportunities:** Numerous opportunities for **picnics** are provided, including picnic tables at each site and a reservable **picnic shelter** for larger groups.
- **Fishing Destination:** Pomme de Terre Lake is one of the best fishing lakes in the country, especially known for muskellunge, providing a world-class angling experience right outside your tent or RV.
- **Reservable Sites:** Campsites can be reserved in advance through Recreation.gov, which is advisable for peak season weekends and holidays.

Lightfoot Landing Campground is worth choosing for the Missouri resident who prioritizes a **quiet, highly functional, and family-friendly camping experience** on a major lake.
The unique value lies in its status as a **smaller USACE campground**, which typically ensures higher quality maintenance (despite the noted attendant issues, which are often isolated and addressed by management) and adherence to consistent public park standards. You get the stability of **electric and water hookups**, clean showers, and playgrounds, combined with the unparalleled recreational benefit of a **boat ramp right in the park**. The setting is ideal for families, as it is certified as **good for kids** and provides dedicated space for outdoor games.

June 16 · Dona HicksI’d give 0 stars if I could based solely on the park attendant John. My family has come down here for years and have camped with several different attendants and never had there been someone this bad. John did not clean the campsite before we got there, the previous campers left some trash and charcoal in the pit and he had the audacity to ask my older grandparents to clean their site themselves. Like the other review said, he comes into your campsite unwelcome and asks for stuff. He went as far as to ask for a ride from the campground to Bolivar (16+ away) and Galmey, and other places too. He uses his personal phone to call and ask for rides from his home to near where my grandparents live (would end up being hours worth of driving for my grandparents). VERY CREEPY. My grandparents did not consent to receiving calls from him outside of campsite related information. They are NOT friends. He does not keep the park very clean or the amenities. He does not seem to actually clean the bathrooms, he just empties the trash cans every now and then. He doesn’t clean the feminine waste basket much at all (pictured). There’s mold and caked on poop from when the toilets backed up over a month ago (pictured) and it hasn’t been thoroughly cleaned since. The guy is weird and intrusive and makes campers uncomfortable.Even though we’ve been coming multiple times per year for several years now, we’ll pick a different campsite next year if John is still the attendant.
August 02 · Emilee HLove this park. The sites are spread out and beautiful views of the lake. Not to expensive and clean.
August 13 · S RuloI had a wonderful time at Light foot Park. It was quiet, cleaned, nice restrooms, easy to put boat on the lake. Magnificient lake!
October 13 · Hilda ParnellLove camping here and the grounds. However the park attendant John is a creep. He has knocked on our camper door at 630 am. Comes into your camp uninvited, asking for food, beer, or whatever he wants. As a camper I have no interest in making small talk with a weirdo park attendant. I'm not the only one who feels this way as us campers have discussed in length the situation john is putting us in. I hope they fix this issue for this season, not sure we can deal with it any longer
