Leonard Harrison campground

Leonard Harrison Campground, Wellsboro, PA 16901, USA

4.0
Beautiful campsite right at the Grand Canyon of The East. The bathrooms and showers were super clean. All the sites were within a couple hundred feet of drinking water and the farthest walk to the bathroom was no more than 2 minutes. The sites came with a picnic table, a file ring with a grill, a trash bag hook, and a gravel lot you can drive and park a car in. Additional parking also in the lot. Bathroom and showers were super clean. They had a sink basin for dishes. The state park and hikes a a short walk away with beautiful views of the mountains, creeks to swim in and waterfalls. Rangers were really nice and helpful and they did rounds at night. - George Diwan

wellsboro campgrounds

For Pennsylvania locals seeking an unparalleled blend of dramatic natural beauty and comfortable camping, Leonard Harrison Campground is a premier destination. Located in Wellsboro, PA, this campground is literally perched on the eastern rim of the majestic Pine Creek Gorge, affectionately known as the "Grand Canyon of Pennsylvania." It offers campers not just a place to stay, but a direct gateway to some of the state's most iconic views and exhilarating outdoor adventures.

Consistently praised by visitors for its cleanliness and well-maintained facilities, Leonard Harrison Campground stands out for its commitment to providing a high-quality experience. Reviewers frequently highlight the "beautiful campsite right at the Grand Canyon," with "bathrooms and showers super clean." This attention to detail, combined with the awe-inspiring natural surroundings, makes it an ideal choice for families, hikers, nature photographers, and anyone looking to immerse themselves in the wild beauty of north-central Pennsylvania. It’s a true gem within the Pennsylvania State Park system, offering both convenience and a profound connection to nature.

Location and Accessibility

Leonard Harrison Campground is nestled within Leonard Harrison State Park, with the park's main address being 4797 Route 660, Wellsboro, PA 16901-8970, USA. This places it directly on the east rim of the Pine Creek Gorge, providing immediate access to the park's famous overlooks and trailheads. The campground itself is located within the 585-acre state park.

Access to Leonard Harrison State Park is straightforward. From the town of Wellsboro, visitors simply follow Route 660 West for approximately 10 miles. It's important to note that GPS navigation systems might suggest routes through smaller, unpaved dirt roads that are unsuitable for larger RVs and buses; therefore, continuing on the paved Route 660 West until it dead-ends at the park is the recommended and most direct approach. The convenient location means that once you arrive, you are just a "short walk away" from the stunning views of the canyon and various hiking trails. While cell phone coverage can be limited (one reviewer noted "1 bar max" for Verizon and T-Mobile), this can also be seen as an opportunity to truly disconnect and enjoy the natural surroundings. Emergency phones are available at the park for 911, local, and toll-free calls. The campground is generally open from mid-April until mid-October, aligning with the prime visiting season for the Pennsylvania Grand Canyon.
