Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite offers essential services designed to facilitate a primitive yet comfortable camping experience:
Secluded Backpack-In Only Sites: The primary service is providing highly secluded campsites accessible only by foot. This ensures a quiet and undisturbed natural experience, far removed from vehicle traffic and large crowds, catering to those who truly seek solitude in nature.
Well-Equipped Individual Campsites: Each designated backpacking site is thoughtfully equipped with fundamental amenities. This includes a flat, level area suitable for tent setup, ensuring a comfortable night's rest amidst the natural terrain.
Picnic Tables: Every site features a sturdy picnic table, providing a convenient and clean surface for meal preparation, dining, and other camp activities, enhancing the comfort of a primitive setup.
Fire Pits with Grates: Individual fire pits are available at each site, allowing campers to safely build campfires for warmth, cooking, and ambiance. The inclusion of a grate facilitates easier cooking over an open flame.
Seating Options: Beyond the picnic table, sites are equipped with at least one stationary bench and often an additional movable bench around the fire ring. This provides ample seating for groups and enhances the communal campfire experience.
Outhouses Stocked with Toilet Paper: Conveniently located vault toilets (outhouses) are provided on-site, and remarkably, they are consistently stocked with toilet paper, a significant convenience for primitive campers and a testament to the site's maintenance.
Hammock-Friendly Trees: For those who enjoy hammock camping, sites feature trees spaced appropriately for two hammocks, allowing campers to easily set up their relaxation spots within nature.
Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite distinguishes itself with several unique features and highlights that enhance its appeal to wilderness enthusiasts:
Truly Secluded Primitive Sites: The standout feature is the exceptional seclusion of its "backpack in only" campsites. Visitors consistently praise how rarely they are bothered by other people, providing an authentic wilderness experience even relatively close to urban areas. This makes it ideal for those seeking deep tranquility.
Expansive "Huge" Sites: Unlike many campgrounds where sites can feel cramped, the primitive sites at Lapham Peak are described as "HUGE." This generous sizing ensures ample space for tents, gear, and personal privacy, contributing significantly to a comfortable and undisturbed stay.
Abundance of Bushcraft Opportunities: For enthusiasts of bushcraft and survival skills, the natural and undeveloped nature of the sites, combined with the surrounding forest, offers a perfect environment for practicing and honing these outdoor arts. This makes it a "bushcraft heaven" as one reviewer described.
Surprisingly Low Insect Disturbance: A notable and welcome highlight, especially for primitive camping, is the reported lack of bothersome insects. This significantly enhances the comfort and enjoyability of the outdoor experience, allowing campers to relax without constant swatting.
Thoughtful Site Amenities in a Primitive Setting: Despite being a primitive site, the inclusion of flat tent locations, sturdy picnic tables, fire pits with grates, and multiple benches demonstrates a thoughtful approach to camper comfort. These amenities, while basic, are highly valued in a secluded environment.
Well-Maintained Vault Toilets: The presence of clean, stocked vault toilets on-site is a significant convenience for primitive camping, eliminating a common concern for those venturing into less developed areas and contributing to the overall positive impression of the facilities.
Access to Popular Trekking Trails (but secluded from them): While the campsites themselves are secluded, they offer access to the broader network of popular trails within Lapham Peak. This allows campers to enjoy extensive hiking during the day while retreating to a private sanctuary at night.

Lapham Peak Backpacking Campsite Reviews
I spent 3 days camping here this past week. The location is brilliant, natural, and lovely. I was never bothered by other people, except when trekking the popular trails. The backpack in only campsite I stayed at was secluded and suprisingly lacking in bothersome insecte. It featured a flat location, picnic table, two hammock distance apart trees, fire pit, one stationary and one moveable bench, and an outhouse stocked with toilet paper. I was in pure bushcraft heaven.
