For South Carolina residents, Lakewood Camping Resort offers an unparalleled vacation experience that perfectly aligns with our state's love for coastal living, family fun, and community spirit. While one recent review unfortunately detailed a significant check-in issue with an already occupied site, it's important to consider this against the overwhelming positive sentiment and the resort's long-standing reputation as a top-tier destination. Many other reviews, including one from a family with young children, enthusiastically praise the resort for providing an "absolute ball" and declare, "We will definitely be back!" This suggests that while isolated incidents can occur, the core experience at Lakewood remains incredibly positive for the vast majority of guests.
What truly makes Lakewood suitable for South Carolina locals is its comprehensive offering. We understand the desire for convenient, all-encompassing vacation spots that maximize relaxation and minimize logistical headaches. Lakewood delivers this by providing nearly every amenity imaginable right on-site: a fantastic water park, direct beach access, varied dining options, numerous recreational activities, and even a general store. This means less time driving and more time enjoying your vacation with family and friends.
The resort's Christian-based ministry, mentioned by a satisfied guest, adds a unique and valued dimension for many local families seeking a wholesome and spiritually enriching environment alongside their recreational activities. This commitment to faith and community, combined with the "friendly and polite" atmosphere often reported by visitors, fosters a truly welcoming and supportive setting.
Furthermore, for South Carolina families, the sheer variety of activities ensures that every age group is catered for. From the thrills of the water park and mini-golf for children to live entertainment, fishing, and peaceful walks on the beach for adults, there's literally something for everyone. This makes it an ideal spot for multi-generational family gatherings, a common and cherished tradition in our state.
While the mentioned check-in issue is a concern that management should address, the overall pattern of reviews points to a resort that typically excels in providing a memorable and enjoyable vacation. The sentiment "I loved how it's Christian based and the pools are near the beach so it's easy to jump in after the beach. We will definitely be back!" strongly reflects the positive experiences that keep South Carolinians returning year after year. Lakewood Camping Resort remains a beacon for quality family vacations on the Grand Strand, offering an incredible blend of fun, convenience, and a welcoming community right here in our beautiful state.

Lakewood Camping Resort Reviews
0 out of 10 Do NOT recommend!!!!! When my parents checked in 6/18/25 they drove to their assigned and paid for site to someone it already occupied. They went back to the office to see if there was a mistake. They were told they were in the right spot and they would call down to the people on our site to have them move. We were told they were currently in the process of moving. A drive back down to site, and sitting there for a little bit the people occupying the site were in no way shape or form in the process of moving their camper off the site. Went back to the office to be told they could just park by the trading post and they would call the people again to remind them they needed to move. 30 minutes later drove back down to site and they were still not moving and told my parents we could just go park at another site it would be so much easier than them having to move sites. Another trip to the office to see if we could get some help moving into our paid for site and we’re told we’d have to wait until they moved they knew they had to move. At 8pm they finally moved off the site so we could pull in and set up, when my dad went back to office to see if we could get come compensation for the long wait he was given a card and told to call manager. Not once did anyone leave their office and actually help fix the problem. And why was someone there, they must have known them because they called them and told them to move. Do NOT waste your time or money here!!!!
Jun 23, 2025 · Victoria StewartIt was our first time taking 3 kids here and we had an absolute ball. The kids are 7, 5 and 7 months and all of them had a great time. I loved how it's christian based and the pools are bear the beach so it's easy to jump in after the beach. We will definitely be back!
Jun 30, 2025 · Kayla PriceCheck in is late ( 4pm ) for rental units.Pool is always crowded and can be difficult to find a chair most of the time unless you get in line before they open to get chairs. Very family friendly and Christian atmosphere. Drinking is discreet and you won't see a bunch of beer bottles and cans everywhere. They really need a 2nd pool. It is a great location and everything you need is in the campground but you can visit tourist spots easily.
Jun 26, 2025 · Jeff RoystonIf you enjoy RV camping at the beach, Lakewood gets 5 stars. Personally, I prefer beach houses in less populated areas, but I came to Lakewood for a big family vacation with extended family. All that said, Lakewood is a very nice campground - safe, clean and family friendly. The bathrooms are well-maintained and there are activities for the whole family going on throughout the week. The indoor pool is nice for those want to stay out of the sun, or for rainy days. The outdoor pool has a resort-like feel with water slides and a few concessions. The beach along Lakewood's property is clean and well maintained. There are church services on Sunday mornings in the pavilion area which overlooks the ocean.
May 12, 2025 · April EmeryWe’ve been coming to Lakewood for over 12 years! It was our first vacation together in 1989! Now, we bring my daughter and grandkids. We love the pools, activities, and camping spots. Once you arrive you really don’t have to leave. Everything is at your fingertips.
