Lakeside Point Introduce
For Oklahoma locals seeking a tranquil and open-air escape by the lake, Lakeside Point in Clayton, OK, presents an interesting option for RV camping. This campground, described by visitors as having "open space and peaceful surroundings," offers a developing experience for those who appreciate quietude and direct access to Oklahoma's beautiful lake country. While it's still growing and finding its footing, it holds potential as a serene base for outdoor activities, particularly for RV enthusiasts looking for a straightforward and uncrowded environment.
Lakeside Point is an emerging destination, and as such, it offers a more rustic and less commercialized camping experience. It's a place where you might find yourself as one of the few guests, enjoying unparalleled peace and quiet, especially during off-peak seasons. The "friendly owners" are clearly invested in building and improving the site, indicating a commitment to its future. For Oklahomans who value wide open spaces, direct access to the lake, and are willing to support a growing local business, Lakeside Point offers a promising opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty of southeastern Oklahoma.
Lakeside Point is situated at 428549 E 1635 Rd, Clayton, OK 74536, USA. This places it directly in the scenic southeastern region of Oklahoma, an area well-known for its beautiful lakes, dense forests, and abundant outdoor recreational opportunities. Clayton is a small town in Pushmataha County, serving as a gateway to natural attractions like Sardis Lake and the Ouachita National Forest.
For Oklahoma locals, the accessibility to Lakeside Point will primarily depend on their starting location within the state. Clayton is reachable via state highways, such as US-271, which connect to larger interstates across Oklahoma. Once near Clayton, the final approach to 428549 E 1635 Rd should be relatively straightforward, though specific road conditions on the immediate approach to the campground might vary.
The campground's direct proximity to the lake, as its name suggests, is a key aspect of its accessibility for water-based activities. While "Access to the lake is available," it's noted to be "limited to just one small open area." This suggests that while lake access is present, it might require a short walk or specific planning, particularly during busy periods. For RVs, the "clearly marked and laid out" spots on a "wide, treeless field" imply easy maneuverability within the campground itself, which is a significant advantage for larger vehicles. Oklahomans looking for a lakeside RV spot will appreciate the ease of getting their rig into place, even if the general area lacks shade.
Clearly Marked RV Spots: The campground offers RV spots that are "clearly marked and laid out on a wide, treeless field." This provides defined spaces for campers to set up their vehicles, facilitating an organized layout.
Electrical Hookups: Electrical hookups are provided at the RV sites. However, visitors should be aware of potential limitations, as one review noted that "the breaker kept tripping when we tried to run our RV’s electric heater," requiring a switch to gas. This suggests the electrical infrastructure may still be in development or have capacity limits.
Lake Access: "Access to the lake is available," though it is "limited to just one small open area." This allows campers to reach the water for activities like fishing or enjoying the lakeside environment.
Peaceful Surroundings: A key "service" is the promise of "peaceful surroundings," especially when the campground is not busy. This offers a quiet retreat from more crowded destinations.
No Shade: As noted by a reviewer, the RV spots are on a "treeless field," meaning there is "no shade." Campers should be prepared for direct sun exposure, particularly during warmer months.
Developing Infrastructure: The campground appears to be in a development phase, with "owners... just starting out with this place." This implies that services and amenities may be basic but are subject to ongoing improvements.
Confusion on Rules (Historical): One review mentioned "a bit of confusion around the rules" and inconsistent guidance on accessible areas. While this indicates a need for clearer communication, it also points to the campground actively establishing its operational policies.
No Public Restrooms (Implied): Given the focus on RV spots and no mention of facilities, it's highly likely that public restrooms are not available. Campers are expected to use their RV's facilities. The incident with the toddler seeking a restroom also implies no public access, emphasizing the need for campers to be self-contained.
Reservations Required: A sign at the gate indicates "camping required reservations," suggesting a formal booking system is in place, despite the possibility of low occupancy at times.
Open Space and Peaceful Surroundings: The defining feature of Lakeside Point is its expansive "open space" and remarkably "peaceful surroundings." For those seeking a quiet retreat away from bustling crowds, this campground offers a genuine sense of solitude, especially during off-peak times.
Direct Lake Proximity: As the name suggests, the campground is located by a lake, providing convenient "access to the lake" for various water-based activities, despite being limited to "just one small open area." This is a significant draw for fishing, kayaking, or simply enjoying the lakeside views.
Ideal for Quiet RV Camping: With "clearly marked and laid out" RV spots on a wide field, the campground is well-suited for RVers who prioritize ease of parking and an open, uncluttered environment.
Potential for Growth and Improvement: Reviewers note that the owners are "just starting out with this place" and express wishes for "best as they keep growing and improving." This indicates that future visits may see enhanced services and features as the campground develops.
Friendly Ownership: The owners made an effort to "introduce themselves" and were described as "friendly people," suggesting a welcoming atmosphere and a personal touch in their service.
Opportunities for Fishing (Lake Level Dependent): While one reviewer experienced "not much action" due to high lake levels, the lake itself offers opportunities for fishing, a popular pastime in Oklahoma's lake regions. Success may vary with conditions.
Secluded Feel (Especially Off-Season): The experience of being "the only guests during our visit" highlights the potential for a truly private and undisturbed camping trip, particularly outside of peak holiday periods.

Lakeside Point Reviews
We stayed at this RV campground by the lake and appreciated the open space and peaceful surroundings—especially since we were the only guests during our visit. The RV spots are clearly marked and laid out on a wide, treeless field, which keeps things neat but also means no shade and very little character.Access to the lake is available but limited to just one small open area. It worked fine for us since we had it all to ourselves, but if the campground gets busy, sharing that one access point could be frustrating. Same goes for the RV spots—they’re very close together, so it could feel cramped during high season. One of our main reasons for coming was fishing, but unfortunately, the lake was high at the time and there wasn’t much action. Not necessarily the campground’s fault, just something to keep in mind depending on the season.A bigger issue was the electrical hookup. The breaker kept tripping when we tried to run our RV’s electric heater, so we had to switch to gas.The owners stopped by to introduce themselves—friendly people, and you can tell they’re just starting out with this place. That said, there was a bit of confusion around the rules. We were shown where we could and couldn’t go, but on the last day we were asked to leave an area that had previously been marked as okay. Nothing serious, but it points to the need for clearer communication and perhaps a bit more polish on the service side. All in all, a decent spot with potential. Wishing them the best as they keep growing and improving.
Jun 17, 2025 · Dmitriy MykaloHad an emergency on the road and our toddler had to use the restroom (The gate to the grounds were open and sign said said camping required reservations - nothing about restrooms) Park management came over and told us to have our toddler pee on the side of the road instead. Let us leave fine, but not a nice man. If you don't want people inside your campground then close the gate and have someone check paying guests in.

Jun 29, 2025 · Priscilla ParsonsThis is a very beautiful place to be! It's apparently a secret gem because there is no one here and the Corps parks are full. They offer monthly rates, full hook ups, easy pull through sites, and a short walk to the water. This place beats the Corps parks hands down.
Mar 21, 2024 · Chris GreenUp and coming campground with stunning views of the lake. Easy walk to the lake for swimming. Our kids loved it, we plan to pack the kayaks for the next visit. Full hookups and a shower house in the making. Trash on site, picnic tables, & all have fire rings. Pack your shade tent and be prepared for a quiet relaxing camping trip. Lots of room for the littles to roam or ride bikes. Also a great place to host events. Owner has white tents, chairs, and many extras available.
