Lakehead Campground & RV Park Introduce
For Californians traveling through the stunning Shasta-Trinity National Forest region or seeking a convenient base for exploring Shasta Lake, Lakehead Campground & RV Park offers a practical and accessible option. This family-owned and operated establishment caters to both RV enthusiasts and tent campers, providing a range of accommodations designed to make your stay comfortable, whether it’s for a quick overnight stop or a longer retreat. While some larger resorts might boast extensive recreational facilities, Lakehead Campground & RV Park focuses on providing essential amenities and a welcoming atmosphere, positioning itself as a reliable choice for those prioritizing convenience and a functional place to rest.
Situated in the heart of the Lakehead area, this park serves as a gateway to the immense recreational opportunities of Shasta Lake, including boating, fishing, and swimming. It aims to offer a hassle-free experience, as highlighted by many visitors who appreciate its utility for an overnight stay, especially when plans change or more comfortable accommodations are suddenly needed. While individual experiences may vary, the park strives to be a accommodating "port in a storm" for travelers, offering vital services like power, water, and sewer hookups for RVs, alongside shaded sites for tents. It's a place where the focus is on providing a solid foundation for your Northern California adventures.
Lakehead Campground & RV Park is conveniently located at 20999 Antlers Rd, Lakehead, CA 96051, USA. This strategic position places it just a quarter-mile from a public boat launch on Shasta Lake, making it an excellent hub for water-based recreation without the need for extensive travel. The campground's proximity to Interstate 5 (I-5) is a significant advantage for travelers, allowing for easy access for those passing through California or seeking a quick getaway.
From I-5, travelers would typically take Exit 702 (Antlers Rd/Lakeshore Dr) and then proceed a short distance to reach the park. This easy access from a major freeway is a key highlight, ensuring that even large RVs and trailers can navigate to the campground without significant difficulty. While some of the more secluded campgrounds in the region might require traversing challenging dirt roads, Lakehead Campground & RV Park offers a more straightforward approach, which is particularly beneficial for those arriving after dark or with limited experience on unpaved surfaces. Its location also puts it within convenient reach of local restaurants and gas stations in Lakehead, ensuring that essential supplies and services are just a short drive away, adding to the overall convenience for visitors exploring the Shasta Lake area.

Lakehead Campground & RV Park Reviews
Nothing Special. Basically good for a one night stay. Checkin process is unclear. Bathroom was filled with cigarette smoke and there are some sketchy regulars.
Apr 15, 2025 · John ClokePerfect for an overnight stay. We abandoned our reserved campsite in higher altitude and much colder temperatures for Lakehead Campground & RV Park. Super nice guy, very accommodating on Thanksgiving night. Our RV spot had power, water, and sewer. Perfect “port in a storm.”
Nov 29, 2024 · Mike McCurdyThis was an incredible experience. We were on our way to Bend, Oregon from central CA and weren’t sure where we were going to stop for the night. I called the phone number for this campground which looked perfect and a really nice gentleman answered explaining that we could stay the night and pay our camping fee. This was such a beautiful place! Quiet and peaceful as well! It was early in the season but we were so grateful to be able to experience this.We did tent camping and each lot is surrounded by trees and the lots are clean! At night saw the most stars I’ve ever had the chance of seeing in the sky.Thank you again to the kind person on the phone for letting us stay on such short notice. We appreciate you!
May 17, 2024 · roslyn myrThis place is PERFECT. The owner is a fantastic person to deal with. His one and only maintenance guy is one of the friendliest people I've met and does a great job maintaining the park. Bathrooms were in good shape and clean. Overall I'd say 6 stars out of 5. Definitely will be back.
May 05, 2024 · Lewis MurroHave camped here but we mostly come just for the pool. By noon, there is enough shade over the pool for ~4 people to stay out of the sun. It just gets more shady as the day goes on, which is perfect for me tender and pale Scottish skins. Bugs fall into the pool a lot from the shade trees, but that's easy to deal with. Pool is SUPER cold which is refreshing on a triple digit day. Please call to verify the day use fee for yourself but I don't think we have ever paid more than $20-30 total.
