- Shaded Campsites: The campground boasts plenty of shade, provided by the surrounding forested landscape of saw palmetto and oak trees, offering a cooler and more pleasant camping experience, especially during Florida's sunny days.
- Dedicated Group Facilities: The large picnic pavilion with tables and a substantial grill is a standout feature, creating an excellent central hub for group activities, meals, and social gatherings.
- Short Nature Trail: A small, super-short trail is available for exploration, offering a fun and easy walk for kids and a chance to experience the forest up close.
- Wildlife Viewing Opportunities: As part of the Ocala National Forest, the campground provides ample opportunities for observing local wildlife, including various bird species and, notably, alligators in the lake – a quintessential Florida experience (and a reminder to be aware of your surroundings!). Deer, raccoons, and even black bears are also known to inhabit the forest.
- Access to Ocala National Forest Activities: Beyond the campground, visitors have easy access to the broader Ocala National Forest's extensive off-road trail system for ATV and Jeep enthusiasts, as well as traditional deer hunting areas, offering diverse recreational options.
- Rustic Charm with Essential Comforts: While designed for a more traditional camping experience with no electricity at individual sites, the presence of warm showers and flush toilets in the bathrooms provides a welcome level of comfort in a natural setting.
- Year-Round Operation: The campground is open all year, allowing Floridians to plan group outings during any season, though cooler months (November to April) are often preferred for comfort and fewer insects.

Ticks, ticks, ticks...😔😔😔This campsite is so nice for a big group. Plenty of shade. A little trail to explore (super short walk but fun for the kids)Bathrooms and showers (with warm water) there is lights in the bathrooms and showers but not outlets. Not electricity in any other place. There is a pavilion with tables and a big grill(coal) also more tables around with little grills. You can bring a kayak or paddle board for the lake. (Body of water in FL so yeah you will spot Alligators. There are trash can that are bear proof so you may use them. Food should be storage at the cards never on the tent.Downside... TICKS ... lots of them. So come prepared with bug spray and long sleeve shirts and pants. And be sure to take a shower and look for ticks in your kids and family. It may be the time of the year or the locations but ... yeah be aware.

Jan 23, 2025 · Francis McNeiceBeautiful place but few creature comforts. No electricity. No hot water in the sinks. Two showers with hot water. Nice shelter with 4 picnic tables. Pretty lake and room for dozens of tents.
Feb 03, 2024 · Gustavo Perez PovedaWE HAD MY YOUNGEST GRANDSON'S 5TH BIRTHDAY PARTY HERE!! WAS AWESOME TIME!!! THE PARK HOST WAS DRIVING AROUND, KEEPING A EYE ON EVERYTHING! I LIKED THAT!!🙏🏼🤟❤️🥰😍😇✌️
Jul 15, 2024 · Debbie PrattUPDATE:A little disappointing, this site has really gone down hill since the first review 6 years ago. The bathrooms are an absolute mess during the summer due to the FWC kid's summer camp abusing them. We also had issues with the homeless last time we went. Marion County SO is absolutely useless when it comes to trespassers, call FWC. The prices also doubled with no benefit to users of the site. Those of us that used it frequently kept it clean. Those who use it for free have destroyed this place. Also expect gate combo issues with no one to contact about the problem.Original Review:Lake Shore never disappointing. This is one of the very few group sites in Florida that has swimming, accommodates pets, and you don't share the restroom with anyone else. Camp hosts are always friendly (and vary from year to year.) The site gets reserved fairly quickly so plan well in advance. The smoker/grill/bbq on site is well built and we've smoked a LOT of meat in this thing. There are also standard park grills around the site. Plenty of lantern posts and a very large camp fire ring rounds out the site. Windixie is around 15 minutes away with roughly half an hour to Silver Springs if you needed anything that the local dollar stores (2) can't provide.
