Lake Shelby Campground, part of Lake Shelby Park managed by Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks & Recreation, offers a range of services designed to accommodate various camping styles. While some facilities might be basic, the park strives to provide essential amenities for a comfortable stay. Here’s an overview of the services typically available:
RV Sites with Hookups: The campground features 10 RV sites. Site 1 is a paved 10'x20' with full hookups (sewer, water, electric). Sites 2-10 are paved 10'x15' or 10'x20' with water and electric only (50 amp service available), and a dump station is nearby for these sites. RV pads are relatively short, so larger rigs may have their front ends stick out, but ample asphalt in front of sites helps.
Tent Sites: There are 15 designated tent sites, some of which are waterfront. These are typically primitive, meaning they do not have water or electric hookups directly at the site.
Primitive Sites along the Lake Front: In addition to the main tent sites, there are primitive sites located along the lake trail, offering a more secluded experience.
Restrooms and Showers: The campground provides access to restrooms and showers. Reviews indicate these facilities can be basic but are generally available, with recent upgrades noted by some users. Each shower unit typically includes a sink, toilet, and shower.
Boat Launching Facilities: Lake Shelby offers boat launching ramps. There are fees for motorized and non-motorized boats, with annual passes available. Canoes are also available for hourly rental.
Honor Box System: For certain services like boat launching and tent camping, an honor box system is in place, particularly when the main office is closed. This allows for self-service payment.
On-Site Management/Host: The park has a camp host (or managers like "Dan," as mentioned in a review), and the Lake Shelby Office is located near the launch ramp. For assistance when the office is closed, the Family Activity Center can be contacted.
Long Term Stays (Seasonal): During the non-peak season (November 16 – March 14), RVs can apply for stays up to 30 days, requiring management approval and an application process.
Lake Shelby Campground offers several key features and highlights that contribute to its appeal as a camping destination in Kentucky. These aspects draw in visitors looking for a particular type of outdoor experience:

Waterfront Sites: Many of the tent and primitive sites are located directly along the lakefront, providing beautiful views and easy access to the water for fishing, canoeing, or kayaking. This "waterfront primitive spot" was particularly appreciated by one reviewer for its peace and spaciousness.
Bird Watching Opportunities: The park is noted as great for bird watching, with "bald eagles frequently spotted." This adds an exciting dimension for nature lovers and photographers.

May 17, 2025 · summer rAfter taking the advice from a friend to go camping for 1-2 nights after losing my heart dog suddenly I did a quick google search and found this place. I had a waterfront primitive spot that was spacious but still just a quick walk to the showers/bathroom. I am looking forward to spring/summer and camping here again. It brought me some peace I needed during a difficult time.

Sep 10, 2024 · Arthur DavisWe've been coming here for the past five years and it just keeps getting better. The grounds are well kept. The bath house is kept clean at all times. The guys enjoy fishing both from several new piers or taking the boat out. The kids love the paddle boats and enjoy riding their bikes in a safe area. All in all, the host and manager are doing a great job and we look forward to returning.
