Lake Capote Recreation Area Reviews
We are visiting Pagosa and took our kids over to Capote Lake to do some fishing. We maybe fish once a year, so we don't purchase permits or fishing licenses. Gayle was amazing. She set our kids up with rods to borrow, we purchased some bate and it was off to the races. It was a beautiful setting and we were able to see some goslings and even a beaver. We didn't catch any fish, but the kindness from Gayle and the ability to fish without all the red tape made it a great experience. We definitely recommend.
Apr 19, 2025 · Larry StappGreat camping location. It's pay to camp and fish, but the experience is well worth it. The small bait store has worms, baits, and snacks. You can also pay to fish at the store.

Oct 15, 2023 · Joshua MarschlowitzBeautiful spot outside Pagosa! We visited lake after being disappointed w/ Lake Navajo & so happy we did. We took our 3 dogs around the lake then visited the bait shop. The couple was so nice, can't say enough good things about them! Area is clean, water is clear, has great views & the staff are awesome!!! Will definitely return next time we are in town!
Sep 25, 2022 · S HarrelsonWe didn't camp or picnic. Just a stop for a breather from driving at this beautiful little lake. We noticed the geese, but they were not interested in posing for me. There were parents and some younger ones. It was a nice stop, even for non-campers or people who didn't boat or fish.
