Kozy Campground

Campground ★4.0

Bridger-Teton National Forest, Forest Rd 30527, Jackson, WY 83001, USA

4.0
Beautiful location on the Hobak River! We spent five nights there. Easy access off of 89. Amazing fishing. It rained the first night, however, the rest of the time was amazing sunny cloudless. Temps were down into the 50s in the evenings 80s during the day. Just an idyllic place to spend a week fishing fishing and camping. You will probably want to bring bear spray so you’re as safe as possible. There are bare boxes for your food. There are no RV hook ups but there is a freshwater pump for drinking water. Each site has its own fire pit and picnic table as well as a standing grill, like the ones you see in a park. - Zach Spafford

Kozy Campground Introduce

Hello, Wyoming locals! If you're on the hunt for a truly authentic and peaceful camping experience away from the bustling crowds of Jackson Hole and Grand Teton National Park, you'll want to discover a little-known gem called Kozy Campground. Tucked away in the stunning Bridger-Teton National Forest, this small and tranquil spot is a perfect example of what makes our state so special. It’s a place where the sound of the Hoback River flowing by replaces the noise of traffic, and the views of the surrounding mountains are your only entertainment. This campground is not for those seeking luxury RV resorts with all the hookups and amenities. Instead, it’s for those who appreciate the simplicity and raw beauty of a rustic, no-frills camping adventure.

As a professional content writer specializing in highlighting local businesses and destinations, my goal is to provide a comprehensive and factual guide to this unique spot. Kozy Campground is a testament to the idea that a truly enriching outdoor experience doesn't require a hefty price tag or an extensive list of modern conveniences. Its primary offerings are its beautiful location and a quiet, peaceful atmosphere. It's an ideal choice for a solo adventurer looking for a fishing retreat, a small family wanting to introduce their kids to the joys of simple camping, or a couple seeking a romantic and serene getaway.

Let’s delve into the details of what makes this "Kozy" spot a worthwhile choice for your next Wyoming escape.

Kozy Campground is located in the heart of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, with its official address listed as Bridger-Teton National Forest, Forest Rd 30527, Jackson, WY 83001, USA. Its prime location is a major draw for campers. It sits directly on the banks of the Wild & Scenic Hoback River, providing easy access to fantastic fishing and breathtaking views. While its address is Jackson, it's situated about 25 miles southeast of the town, making it a convenient base camp for day trips into Jackson and Grand Teton National Park, while still feeling a world away from the busy tourist hubs.

The campground’s accessibility is straightforward, as it is located just off a major highway, with a paved loop and semi-leveled spots for parking. This makes it a great option for those with RVs or trailers, as well as tent campers. There is a wheelchair accessible parking lot, which is a key feature that helps ensure more people can access and enjoy the beautiful scenery. However, it's important to note that, as a small and quiet campground, there are no hookups for RVs. The sites are first-come, first-served, so it’s always best to arrive early, especially during peak season, to secure a spot. The seclusion comes with a trade-off, however, as many visitors report having no cell service, particularly for AT&T users. For many campers, this is the entire point—a chance to truly unplug and be present in the moment.

Kozy Campground offers a basic yet functional set of services that cater to those who are well-prepared for a rustic experience. The focus here is on providing the essentials needed for a comfortable and self-sufficient stay.

  • Payments: The campground operates on a fee basis, with a camping fee per night. The provided information notes a cost of $15, making it an affordable alternative to many of the pricier campgrounds in the area.
  • Amenities: The campground is equipped with public restrooms, which are typically well-maintained vault toilets. There is also running water available, with a freshwater pump for drinking water, which is a great convenience for all campers. Each site comes with a picnic table, a fire pit, and a standing grill, giving you all the tools you need to prepare meals and gather around a campfire.
  • Campsites: Kozy Campground features a small number of sites, with a reviewer noting there are only 8 or 9 available. These sites are designed for both tents and RVs. Although there are no hookups, the sites are semi-leveled and provide a good spot to set up your camp. A key safety feature, as noted by a real customer, is the presence of bear boxes for food storage, which is essential in this part of Wyoming.
  • On-site Parking: Each site has dedicated on-site parking, ensuring that you can keep your vehicle close by. The paved and semi-leveled spots make parking and setting up camp easier.

What truly makes Kozy Campground special are its unique features and highlights, which are all centered around its natural environment.

  • Beautiful Location: The most celebrated feature is its location on the banks of the Hoback River. The campground offers beautiful views and a tranquil atmosphere. The sound of the river provides a natural soundtrack that helps to drown out any road noise from the nearby highway, as mentioned by a reviewer.
  • Amazing Fishing: For anglers, this is a major highlight. A customer review specifically calls out the "amazing fishing" available, likely for trout, a popular sport fish in Wyoming's rivers. The "Wild & Scenic" designation of the river adds to the appeal for outdoor enthusiasts.
  • Quiet and Small: The small size of the campground, with its limited number of sites, ensures a quiet and intimate experience. A reviewer specifically notes that it was "very quiet at the time of our visit," which is a significant advantage for those seeking solitude. The sites are also well-spaced, providing a sense of privacy.
  • Wildlife and Nature: The provided reviews highlight the presence of deer and ground squirrels, which is a testament to the natural setting. This area is also rich with other wildlife, including bears, so being bear aware and bringing bear spray is a good idea. The opportunity for wildlife viewing is a major draw for nature lovers.
  • Affordable and Accessible: With a camping fee of around $15, Kozy Campground is an incredibly affordable option, especially given its proximity to Jackson. This makes it a great choice for budget-conscious travelers who still want to be close to some of Wyoming's most beautiful and famous attractions.

For more information, you can contact the Jackson Ranger District of the Bridger-Teton National Forest, which manages the campground.

So, why is Kozy Campground worth choosing for your next Wyoming adventure?

Kozy Campground is the perfect choice for the camper who values a peaceful, rustic, and authentic outdoor experience over the conveniences of a modern resort. Its location on the Hoback River is a major draw, offering incredible fishing and stunning natural scenery. The fact that it is small and quiet, with a limited number of sites, ensures a sense of tranquility that is hard to find in more popular areas. The amenities, while basic, are exactly what you need for a comfortable stay: a picnic table, a fire pit with a grill, running water, and a restroom. For those who don't mind a lack of hookups and are prepared to be off-grid (with no cell service), the affordable price and beautiful location make Kozy an excellent value. It’s a place where you can relax, fish, enjoy a campfire, and truly disconnect from the world, making it a highly recommended destination for any local looking for a serene and simple escape.
