Knox Acres Campgrounds

24579 Lowery Rd, South Bloomingville, OH 43152, USA

4.0
Small campground with big help. Sheryn greets you as you enter the drive. You are taken around to their 9 sites or to the one you reserved. I had campsite #6 very spacious. By the time I hung a hammock Mike the owner himself had dropped off the wood I had purchased. They stopped by later to make sure my dog and I had plenty of wood and to tell us we could listen to the game on the radio near there house. The hospitality I experienced this weekend was second to none. I don't just feel like I found a campsite to keep going back to but I found good people to trust and call friends. Keep up with the updates and I will see you real soon again. Im not Knox you around either. Lol - Timothy Williams

This sentiment is echoed by another visitor who had "one of the best weekends of my life," praising the "lots of hospitality" and noting that "The owners were friendly and inviting."

Campers appreciate the hands-on approach, from Sheryn greeting you upon arrival and personally guiding you to your reserved spot, to Mike dropping off firewood soon after you've set up. The small size, with its "9 sites" (as mentioned in one review), contributes to this intimate feeling, ensuring that every guest receives personalized attention. Its proximity means it's a "very short drive to Old Man's Cave," a major draw for hikers and nature lovers. The opportunity to "listen to the game on the radio near their house" speaks to the casual, friendly atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. For Ohio locals who value a warm welcome, a peaceful setting, and easy access to outdoor adventure, Knox Acres Campgrounds is not just a place to stay; it's a place to return to, time and again, for that feeling of finding "good people" in a beautiful setting.

Location and Accessibility

Knox Acres Campgrounds is perfectly situated at 24579 Lowery Rd, South Bloomingville, OH 43152, USA. This address places it directly in the heart of Ohio's beloved Hocking Hills region, a prime location for locals eager to explore the state's most famous natural landscapes. Its strategic position offers a tranquil retreat while remaining highly accessible to popular attractions.

For Ohio residents, reaching Knox Acres Campgrounds is straightforward. South Bloomingville is located off major state routes that connect easily from various parts of Ohio. From cities like Columbus (approximately 1 hour), Cincinnati (approximately 2.5-3 hours), and Cleveland (approximately 3.5-4 hours), the drive involves scenic routes that lead directly into the Hocking Hills area. Lowery Road itself is a local route, suggesting a quieter, more rural approach to the campground, contributing to its secluded feel.

The most significant advantage of Knox Acres Campgrounds' location is its close proximity to the Hocking Hills State Park complex. Reviews confirm it's a "very short drive to Old Man's Cave," which is one of the most popular and iconic hiking destinations in the park. This means campers can spend less time driving and more time exploring the stunning rock formations, waterfalls, and caves that define the region. Other major Hocking Hills attractions also within easy reach include:

  • Ash Cave: A massive recess cave that is easily accessible.
  • Cedar Falls: Known for its picturesque waterfall.
  • Cantwell Cliffs: Featuring deep gorges and rocky overhangs.
  • Rock House: The only true cave in the park.
  • Conkle's Hollow State Nature Preserve: A deep, rocky gorge with towering cliffs.
  • John Glenn Astronomy Park: For stargazing opportunities.
  • Hocking Hills Winery and Brewery: Local establishments for adult beverages.

Despite being so close to these popular tourist spots, Knox Acres maintains a quiet and cozy atmosphere, allowing campers to truly unwind after a day of exploration. This balance of seclusion and convenience makes it an ideal choice for Ohioans seeking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of the Hocking Hills without sacrificing accessibility to its famous sites.

Services Offered

Knox Acres Campgrounds distinguishes itself by offering a focused set of services that prioritize personal hospitality and the essentials for a comfortable, authentic camping experience. While it's a smaller operation, the emphasis is clearly on quality service and making campers feel at home.

  • Campsites: The campground features a limited number of sites, typically described as "9 sites." This small scale contributes directly to the intimate and personal experience offered.
    • RV and Tent Compatibility: Sites are designed to accommodate both RVs and tents, providing flexibility for various camping styles.
    • Spacious or Cozy Sites: While some sites are noted as "very spacious," others are described as "small for sure but cozy," indicating a variety of site layouts. This suggests campers should inquire about specific site dimensions if they have a large rig.
  • Firewood Sales and Delivery: A highly appreciated service is the provision and delivery of firewood directly to your campsite. One review highlighted, "By the time I hung a hammock Mike the owner himself had dropped off the wood I had purchased." This saves campers the hassle of bringing their own or sourcing it locally.
  • Picnic Tables: It is highly probable that each site comes with a picnic table, a standard amenity at most campgrounds for outdoor dining and convenience.
  • Fire Rings: Similarly, each site would almost certainly include a fire ring, essential for campfires and outdoor cooking, especially given the emphasis on hospitality and a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Personalized Hospitality: This is a standout "service." Reviewers consistently praise the owners, Sheryn and Mike, for their "hospitality," being "friendly and inviting," and taking the time to "make sure my dog and I had plenty of wood and to tell us we could listen to the game on the radio near there house." This goes above and beyond typical campground services.

Based on the emphasis on a "small campground" and the personal service, it is implied that high-end amenities like large bathhouses with flush toilets and hot showers, full RV hookups (water, sewer, electric), or extensive recreational facilities (pools, playgrounds) may not be the primary focus or might be limited. The reviews highlight the core offerings as personalized attention, a cozy site, and convenient firewood, catering to a specific kind of camper who values intimacy and direct interaction with friendly hosts over a vast array of facilities. Therefore, campers should plan for a more rustic approach to certain amenities, or confirm specifics directly with the owners.

Features / Highlights

Knox Acres Campgrounds, though small, offers several distinct features and highlights that make it a compelling choice for Ohio locals, particularly those seeking a personal touch and a genuine connection to the Hocking Hills experience:

  • Exceptional Hospitality and Personal Touch: This is the absolute top highlight. The owners, Sheryn and Mike, are consistently praised for their "hospitality second to none." They personally greet guests, guide them to their sites, and even deliver firewood, making visitors feel like "friends" rather than just customers. This level of personalized care creates an incredibly welcoming and memorable atmosphere.
  • Intimate and Cozy Atmosphere: With only "9 sites" (according to a review), Knox Acres is a "small campground." This intimate scale fosters a peaceful environment, allowing campers to truly relax and unwind without the noise and crowds often found at larger parks. It's ideal for those seeking a quiet retreat.
  • Strategic Proximity to Hocking Hills: The campground boasts a "very short drive to Old Man's Cave" and is perfectly positioned for exploring the entirety of Hocking Hills State Park's famous trails, waterfalls, and caves. This convenience means less travel time and more time enjoying Ohio's natural wonders.
  • Convenient Firewood Service: The direct delivery of firewood by the owner, Mike, right to your campsite, is a highly appreciated convenience. This eliminates the need for campers to haul their own wood or search for local suppliers, allowing for immediate enjoyment of a crackling campfire.
  • Dog-Friendly Environment: One reviewer specifically mentioned the owners checking on "my dog and I," suggesting a welcoming attitude towards pets. For Ohioans traveling with their furry companions, a friendly pet policy is a significant plus.
  • Focus on "Good People": The recurring theme in reviews is finding "good people to trust and call friends" in the owners. This human connection sets Knox Acres apart, creating a strong sense of community and loyalty among its visitors.
  • Affordable and Value-Oriented: One reviewer explicitly mentioned going back "especially for the price," indicating that Knox Acres offers excellent value for the experience provided, making it an attractive option for budget-conscious Ohio locals.
Promotions or Special Offers

Given the small, family-owned nature of Knox Acres Campgrounds and the emphasis on personalized service, it is less likely to have formal, publicly advertised "promotions" in the way larger corporate campgrounds might. Instead, its value proposition often lies in its competitive pricing and the exceptional, personalized service that acts as an inherent "special offer" in itself. However, based on customer reviews and common practices for smaller establishments, here are potential "offers" or value aspects relevant to Ohio locals:

  • Competitive Pricing: One review explicitly stated they would "definitely going back, especially for the price," suggesting that the daily rates for their sites are considered affordable and offer good value for the location and experience. While specific prices are not publicly provided, this sentiment indicates a budget-friendly option for Hocking Hills visitors.
  • Included Firewood Delivery: While firewood is typically purchased, the service of having it "dropped off" directly at your site by the owner (as noted in reviews) is a convenience that adds value. This saves campers time and effort, making the camping experience more seamless.
  • Personalized Service: The "hospitality second to none" and the feeling of finding "good people to trust and call friends" (as described by customers) is a powerful, intangible "special offer." This level of personal attention and genuine care from the owners enhances the overall camping experience far beyond a simple transaction.
  • Flexibility and Accommodating Nature: The willingness of the owners to "stop by later to make sure my dog and I had plenty of wood and to tell us we could listen to the game on the radio near there house" suggests an accommodating and flexible approach to guest needs, which can be invaluable for campers.

For Ohio locals interested in specific pricing or potential group rates (if applicable for all 9 sites), the best approach would be to contact Knox Acres Campgrounds directly. They are likely to provide transparent pricing over the phone and may discuss any flexible options based on the duration of stay or specific requests, given their highly personalized service model.
