Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp Introduce
For New York locals eager to truly immerse themselves in outdoor adventure, Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp in Barryville offers a unique and rustic camping experience directly on the banks of the majestic Upper Delaware River. This campground is designed for those who prioritize immediate access to river activities and a traditional, back-to-basics camping feel over luxury amenities. It’s a perfect base for exploring the wild and scenic beauty of the Delaware River Valley, renowned for its pristine waters and diverse recreational opportunities.
Kittatinny Canoes, as its name suggests, is primarily known for being a hub for various river-based activities, including canoeing, kayaking, rafting, and tubing. K-Camp extends this adventurous spirit to overnight stays, allowing campers to wake up just steps away from where their river journey can begin. This direct access to the water is a significant draw for outdoor enthusiasts.
It's important for prospective campers to have clear expectations about the nature of K-Camp. As a rustic campground, it provides essential facilities but focuses on the natural environment. While the location right on the river is a major highlight, some past guest experiences suggest variability in noise levels and maintenance, and occasional challenges with river conditions (like flooding impacting access). The key takeaway is that K-Camp appeals to those who are seasoned campers, adaptable to simpler conditions, and whose primary goal is to enjoy the river and its surrounding wilderness. Many groups return year after year, valuing its traditional camping atmosphere and unparalleled access to the Delaware River.
Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp is situated at 3854 NY-97, Barryville, NY 12719, USA. This location is strategically important for New York locals, placing it directly along the picturesque Upper Delaware Scenic and Recreational River. Barryville is a charming hamlet in Sullivan County, nestled within the western Catskill Mountains, offering a blend of natural beauty and a quintessential small-town vibe.
The campground's position on New York State Route 97, also known as the Upper Delaware Scenic Byway, makes it easily accessible by car. This scenic highway winds along the river, providing stunning views and connecting to various towns and attractions. For New Yorkers, K-Camp is a manageable drive from major metropolitan areas; it's approximately two to two-and-a-half hours from New York City and about an hour and a half from Albany. This relatively close proximity allows for weekend getaways without extensive travel time.
While the highway location offers convenience, it's worth noting that some reviews mention hearing highway noise, especially for sites closer to the road. However, for many, the benefit of direct river access and the ease of reaching the campground outweighs this consideration. The surrounding area of the Upper Delaware River Valley offers abundant opportunities for exploration beyond the river itself, including hiking trails, local artisan shops, farmers' markets, and historic sites. The accessibility to both the river and nearby attractions makes K-Camp a practical and appealing base for an outdoor adventure in this beautiful part of New York.
Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp is a rustic campground, meaning the services provided are fundamental and focused on facilitating a traditional outdoor experience, particularly centered around river activities. Campers should prepare for a simpler setup compared to amenity-rich RV parks.
- Tent Sites: The campground primarily offers tent sites, providing cleared spaces for pitching tents. Some sites are described as "Rustic Tent Sites" or "Water View Rustic Tent Sites," aiming for proximity to nature.
- Picnic Tables: Most campsites are equipped with a picnic table for meal preparation and dining.
- Fire Rings: Designated fire rings are available at each site for campfires, which are a quintessential part of the camping experience.
- Restrooms: Basic restroom facilities are provided. While not modern bathhouses, they serve the essential purpose. Some reviews mention the need to drive to amenities, implying a spread-out layout or the absence of immediate facilities at all sites.
- Water Access: Access to water, likely from spigots or communal points, is available, though it's always advisable to confirm potable water sources.
- Camp Store: A general store or "River Store" is available on-site or nearby, providing essential camping supplies, snacks, firewood, and perhaps some basic groceries.
- Firewood Sales: Firewood is available for purchase at the camp store. It's advisable to inquire about its quality (dryness) upon purchase.
- Outdoor Adventure Rentals: Kittatinny Canoes is renowned for its river activities. They offer rentals for:

Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp, as an outdoor adventure outfitter and rustic campground, typically integrates its camping offerings with its core river activities. Therefore, "promotions" often come in the form of bundled packages or group rates for their canoe, kayak, rafting, and tubing trips, which might include camping. Specific, standalone camping discounts are less common but worth inquiring about.
- Group Rates: Kittatinny Canoes often offers special rates for larger groups participating in their river trips. If your camping is part of a larger group adventure, inquire about combined pricing for activities and camping.
- Weekday Specials: Sometimes, lower rates or special offers may be available for midweek camping and river trips, as weekdays are generally less busy than weekends.
- Early Bird or Off-Season Discounts: For those planning their trips well in advance or considering visits during the shoulder seasons (spring or fall), there might be opportunities for reduced rates on rentals or camping.

Kittatinny Canoes - K-Camp Reviews
This place was honestly a nightmare. We chose it because of the included tubing and location right on the river, but unfortunately the river was closed due to flooding so that was a bust. The staff was grumpy when we got there - a little later after driving in a thunderstorm - and made odd comments, annoyed we didnt answer the phone 15 minutes earlier while driving. We were told the quiet hours were strictly enforce which is fine by us but HA - not true. We were supposed to have a more secluded site near the river which was unavailable due to flooding, we were just glad to get one. However, we were placed near what I can only describe as a "mega-camp" with over 40 people who were playing music LITERALLY 24 hours a day. We would ask them desperately to be quiet at 3am, 4am, 5am... they did not care. I would expect the camp to have staff monitoring quiet hours. ALSO less unique to our situation - this campsite is RIGHT NEXT TO A HIGHWAY which you can hear loudly allllll night. It was just terrible.
May 15, 2025 · Katy MartinOur group has been coming here for the past 6 years. We loved the campsites in front of cedar rapids restaurant as they were right on the water. Unfortunately these are no longer booked. We ha e since switched to the Water view Rustic tent sites near the restaurant. It's a little misleading as there is basically no water view. The view is completely overgrown with weeds/shrubs/trees blocking the water. There used to be a bridge that you can walk to the restaurant/amenties. That got damaged and has not been replaced. We now have to drive. Last year we got into an argument with a maintenance worker about the tall, unkept grass and he yelled back it was just cut a couple days prior. We really like coming here as it's traditional. Just wish there was more attention to detail. It seems as if they are happy just letting it go instead of making it better. The wood that you buy for $10 a bundle this weekend was soaking wet, smoking like crazy and hard to keep going as well.
Jun 08, 2025 · Mike SMy family group has been camping in the region for years. My personal experience dates back to the early 1980’s. K-camp is the place to be with easy access to the river and canoe trips almost right from your tent door.
