We love Kenosha Pass campground. We wish more of the sights were level and / or bigger but for $21 / night we'll just reserve our spots we can fit in. New hosts, Doug and Donna, were very friendly and seem to be doing a good job. We'll definitely be back. Picture is spot 14 in back loop. - Cody Imel

For Colorado locals seeking an authentic and accessible mountain camping experience, Kenosha Campground at Kenosha Pass stands out as a true gem. Nestled in the stunning Pike National Forest at a high elevation, this campground offers more than just a place to pitch your tent; it's a gateway to some of the state's most breathtaking scenery, world-class hiking, and abundant wildlife. It's a place where the air is crisp, the aspens glow in autumn, and the call of the wild is ever-present. While its rustic nature appeals to those who appreciate a genuine connection with the outdoors, the convenient location ensures it remains a favorite for quick weekend escapes from the Front Range.

Many visitors express a deep affection for Kenosha Campground, with one reviewer stating, "We love Kenosha Pass campground." This sentiment is often echoed by others who return year after year. The draw isn't just the scenic beauty but also the direct access to the iconic Colorado Trail, making it an ideal base for hikers, mountain bikers, and nature enthusiasts. Being at a high altitude, as noted by visitors, "may take a bit to adjust if you are not acclimated, but not as bad as the higher trails." This suggests that while it offers a true high-country experience, it's generally manageable for those accustomed to Colorado's elevations.

The natural environment surrounding Kenosha Campground is teeming with life. Campers are frequently delighted by the chance to observe local fauna, with one memorable encounter including "a moose that passed right through." This highlights the importance of respecting wildlife and maintaining a safe distance, a crucial aspect of responsible camping in Colorado. The sense of community and helpfulness among campers is also evident, with mentions of "New hosts, Doug and Donna, were very friendly and seem to be doing a good job," indicating a well-managed and welcoming atmosphere. This combination of stunning natural beauty, recreational access, and a friendly environment makes Kenosha Campground a highly recommended destination for Colorado residents.

Location and Accessibility

This prime location makes it highly accessible for residents coming from various parts of Colorado, especially those in the Denver metropolitan area and the Front Range.

To reach Kenosha Campground from Denver, simply take US Highway 285 southwest. The drive typically takes about 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic and starting point, making it an ideal destination for a weekend getaway. The campground is located at the summit of Kenosha Pass, which boasts an elevation of approximately 10,000 feet (about 3,000 meters).
