For service members, retirees, DoD civilians, and other authorized users in South Carolina, the Joint Base Charleston Campsite stands as an outstanding option for a memorable outdoor getaway. This military FamCamp, nestled within the expansive Joint Base Charleston, consistently earns high praise for its well-maintained property, welcoming atmosphere, and convenient access to a wealth of recreational opportunities. Unlike typical public campgrounds, this site offers a unique sense of community and security, making it a truly exceptional choice for those eligible to stay.
Many who have experienced the Joint Base Charleston Campsite describe it as "superb," a testament to the dedication of the staff and the quality of the facilities. Guests frequently highlight the cleanliness of the grounds, the abundance of shade provided by mature trees, and the warm reception from the camp hosts. It’s a place where you can feel "right at home," whether you're seeking a brief stopover or a longer stay to explore the historic Lowcountry. The peaceful environment, combined with the presence of military amenities, creates a distinctive and highly valued camping experience right here in our beautiful state.
Beyond the excellent individual sites, the campground's integration within Joint Base Charleston grants visitors access to a wide array of Morale, Welfare, and Recreation (MWR) facilities. This means your camping trip can include activities ranging from golf to basketball, or even renting equipment for other adventures. Its strategic location also places you remarkably close to popular South Carolina destinations like downtown Charleston and Folly Beach, allowing for easy day trips to explore local culture, dining, and natural beauty. The Joint Base Charleston Campsite isn't just a place to park your RV; it's a comprehensive recreational hub designed to provide a truly enriching and comfortable experience for our military community and their families.
The Joint Base Charleston Campsite is strategically located at 101 Scarton Place, Joint Base Charleston, SC 29404, USA. This placement within an active military installation means guests benefit from enhanced security and access to base amenities, but also requires adherence to specific entry protocols. For those traveling by RV, it is crucial to note that access is specifically directed through the "BACK GATE, S. Aviation Road." Visitors are advised to take the "Second road on the right, not the first," when navigating to this entry point. This specific guidance is important to ensure a smooth and hassle-free arrival, especially for larger rigs.
Once on base, the campground itself is nestled in a "nicely wooded" area, offering plenty of natural shade, which is a welcome feature, particularly during South Carolina's warmer months. Its proximity to the airport means there will be "air traffic noise," including jets taking off and landing, which can be a distinctive part of the experience, often described as charming by many campers, with daily "taps and reveille" adding to the military atmosphere. However, this noise typically settles down in the evening, allowing for peaceful nights.
A significant advantage of this location for South Carolina residents is its excellent accessibility to regional attractions. The campground is conveniently "near airport" facilities, which can be practical for some travel needs. More importantly, it is well-situated for exploring the wider Charleston area. Visitors praise its "easy access to Charleston," placing historic downtown Charleston and the popular Folly Beach within a relatively short drive. While heavy traffic in the Charleston area might require some patience, the ability to launch daily excursions to these iconic destinations from a secure and comfortable base camp makes the Joint Base Charleston Campsite an exceptionally well-located choice for military-affiliated individuals and families in our state.

Sep 01, 2024 · Gerardo LedesmaRV campground is great!!! Some pull throughs, about 5 spots for non reservation people ( with full hook ups) MUST GO THROUGH BACK GATE, S. Aviation Rd. Second road on the right, not the first. Go to MWR, ( closed on Sat -Sunday. Nice playground, basketball and tennis court, volleyball, golf course, lots to rent at MWR. 23.00 a night for our rank. Nice and wooded, near airport.
Oct 31, 2021 · Tami WatsonI took my kids to the playground next to the campsite and the facility appeared very clean and cared for. I didn't get to see the actual campsites but I expect that they are equally cared for and hope to be able to camp there in the future.
Nov 29, 2024 · DysfunctionalVet _GamingWe've stayed at 7 different Famcamp locations over the past year. This is by far the least spacious and maintained. You better like DEEP woods, because the sun doesn't shine on the majority of these campsites. We are located in site 28. There isn't even a place to take our dog to use the bathroom within 150 feet of our site (I don't mind walking at all, but my site should be big enough so I can take my dog out to use the bathroom). TMobile service is great. Starlink not even an option with all the tree cover. They also do NOT give out refunds, period. I do have to add some positive. The outdoor recreation office does have an outstanding amount of activities and equipment to rent/use. Like other users have stated, this area is literally 1000 ft from the Charleston International Airport runway, if you're a light sleeper (like my poor wife), than you're gonna have a tough time. The sites that are closest to the bathhouse are much nicer, more spacious and better maintained. These older sites shouldn't be neglected. Very disappointed.
Jun 21, 2023 · Dan HallWent thru a storm with limbs falling on some peoples rv's.Famcamp only issued phone numbers of the police (responded, reports take 7 - 10 days to get) , legal office (left voice mail without a response, finally answered the phone after hanging up 3 times without answering, only to give out another number to file a claim that goes to voicemail, without a call back ) and base operator.Famcamp came out looked at our rv's , took pictures and stated alot of excuses.FAMCAMP got the light poles fixed within a day.Famcamp never came out to sites to clean up the debris, I personally cleaned up debris of 1 couple site and my own site. We are long term here and paying dearly for our sites. NOTICE THEY NEVER RESPOND TO REVIEWS?Legal says they call it an act of God! Came out and talked to rec center staff and looked at trees, AN ACT OF GOD.
