Joe's Cabins Introduce
For residents of Louisiana, the call of the bayou and the desire for a secluded escape are a part of the local culture. Joe's Cabins in Westwego offers a distinctly rustic and authentic Louisiana experience for those looking to get away from the everyday hustle. This isn't your typical polished, modern RV park or campground. Instead, it promises a country-style retreat that is surrounded by water, providing a true taste of the state's iconic swamp and bayou environment. It’s a place that speaks to the heart of Louisiana's natural, untamed beauty.
The unique charm of Joe's Cabins is captured perfectly by a customer review that describes the location as "quaint, country style secluded cabins surrounded by water." This is an important distinction to make for potential visitors—this is a place for an authentic, no-frills experience. The fact that the owner recommended feeding marshmallows to the alligators, and that "they love them," highlights the kind of unique, interactive, and slightly wild experience you can have here. This is not just a place to stay; it’s an adventure waiting to happen, offering stories and memories you couldn't get anywhere else.
However, it's also important to have a clear and factual understanding of the experience to ensure it aligns with your expectations. As another review points out, the rustic nature of the place means it might not be suitable for everyone, particularly those seeking a quiet, family-oriented environment or pristine conditions. The review mentions issues with noise, cleanliness, and facilities that are "dirty falling apart." This is a crucial piece of information for visitors. While the price might be appealing, especially for those on a tight budget, it is essential to weigh that against your comfort and safety needs. The comment about "mold and cigarette holes" in the mattress and the late-night partying indicates that the atmosphere might be more geared toward a specific, perhaps more rugged and independent, type of traveler.
This duality of reviews paints a clear picture: Joe's Cabins is a place of extremes. On one hand, it's a "quaint, country style" hideaway where you can engage in a thrilling, one-of-a-kind activity like feeding alligators. On the other hand, it's a rustic location with a lively, perhaps boisterous, atmosphere that might not be ideal for a peaceful family vacation. It seems to cater to a very specific niche—individuals or groups who are seeking a unique, unvarnished look at Louisiana life and are willing to trade some modern comforts for an authentic, secluded, and memorable experience. It's the kind of place that someone working long shifts, as the review mentions, might find as a budget-friendly and close-to-work option, but it may not be suitable for a general family holiday.
For locals, this site offers a chance to experience the raw, natural side of Louisiana that is often romanticized. It's a reminder that not all camping or cabin rentals are created equal, and that a truly authentic experience sometimes comes with a few rough edges. It's a testament to the diverse range of lodging options available across the state, from luxurious resorts to places that offer a genuine slice of local life.

★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1This is not a good place for someone who is working 12 hours shifts this place is dirty falling apart people stay up all hours of the night blasting music and partying. My wife tried bringing our toddler not a good place for a kid unless you don't mind all the smoking drinking and no sleep. The cabin mattress has mold and cigarette holes all in it. It is very secluded and the prices will help save your per diem but not worth it
June 11 · Joe and crystal RatcliffQuaint, country style secluded cabins surrounded by water. We fed the gators marshmallows, which the owner recommended, and they love them!
September 01 · J WarnerI would give it zero stars if I could. The cabin wasn't cleaned when I moved in. The furniture looks like something found on the side of the road. The mattress was old and torn. The main house looked like it was falling apart. I was paying $1000 a month for a cabin and it was not worth it. The bathrooms were always disgusting and everything smelled old. For all the money this place brings in a month you would think the owner would put some back into the business. You don't sign any paperwork when you get there. It's just you and the owner's agreement. A guy shot and killed a gator because it came out of the water and tried to attack him. Joe got mad and sent out a group text saying that nobody needed to be shooting his alligators. He advertises fishing but I fished almost every day and only caught 1 catfish. I do not recommend this place if you have small children or animals due to the gators being used to being fed. There also isn't any kind of camera system out there for security and the wifi is only good in the main house.
January 14 · Joseph WintonLove this kind of bayou. No alligator today..
June 22 · Shinji HayashiThis place is nice and relaxing. The people are nice as well. Unfortunately there’s no internet. So people can’t work via from Joe’s cabin, surf the web or watch Netflix . This place needs WIFI AND A ICE MACHINE. EVERYTHING ELSE IS GREAT! We will be back and hopefully enjoy this beautiful place to the fullest.
