Jericho Gateway Family Campground is an owner-operated establishment nestled at 120 W Milan Rd, Berlin, NH 03570, USA. It carves out a niche for itself by offering a distinctive "primitive" camping experience, primarily appealing to ATV and UTV enthusiasts who seek direct and convenient access to New Hampshire's extensive trail systems. Unlike highly commercialized campgrounds, Jericho Gateway emphasizes a more rugged, back-to-basics approach to outdoor accommodation, making it a unique destination for those who prioritize adventure and natural immersion.
The campground is known for its quiet atmosphere and nicely spaced sites, providing a sense of privacy that is often highly valued by campers. While the term "primitive" implies fewer creature comforts, it underscores the campground's commitment to delivering an authentic outdoor experience where the focus is less on manicured lawns and more on the wild beauty of the surroundings. The owner's hands-on approach and availability for late check-ins contribute to a friendly and accommodating environment, even for those arriving after hours.
Jericho Gateway serves as an ideal basecamp for exploring the famous "Ride the Wilds" trail network, with its strategic location offering seamless transitions from campsite to trail. It's a place where the sounds of nature prevail during quiet hours, and the sense of community among fellow off-road enthusiasts is palpable. Jericho Gateway Family Campground is situated at 120 W Milan Rd, Berlin, NH 03570, USA, placing it strategically in the northern part of New Hampshire, renowned for its vast recreational opportunities. Its location in Berlin makes it an exceptionally convenient base for exploring the region's expansive ATV and UTV trail networks, particularly the highly popular Jericho Mountain State Park.
The campground's most significant accessibility feature is its direct connection to the Yamaha connector trail, which seamlessly links campers to the extensive trail system that runs throughout the area. This means you can ride your ATV directly from your campsite to hundreds of miles of groomed trails, eliminating the need to trailer your vehicles to a separate trailhead. This "ride-in, ride-out" convenience is a major draw for off-road enthusiasts and sets Jericho Gateway apart.
While offering a sense of being deep in the wilderness, the campground is still within reasonable proximity to the city of Berlin, which provides essential services such as grocery stores, gas stations, and dining options. This allows campers to stock up on supplies before heading into the more rugged terrain. However, it's important to note that as you venture deeper into the campground, particularly to higher-numbered sites, the internal roads can become more challenging, with reports of rocky and muddy conditions. This is a characteristic of a more primitive camping experience and should be anticipated, especially if driving a large vehicle.
The surrounding area is characterized by the picturesque landscapes of the White Mountains, offering opportunities for more than just ATV riding. Hiking, fishing, and wildlife viewing are also popular activities in the vicinity, making Jericho Gateway a versatile location for various outdoor pursuits, all while maintaining its primary focus on ATV accessibility.
Jericho Gateway Family Campground provides a set of basic services designed to support a primitive yet enjoyable camping experience, with a strong emphasis on direct trail access.
Tent and RV Sites: The campground offers a variety of sites suitable for both tents and smaller RVs/trailers. While specific details on hookups are not extensively provided, the "primitive" nature suggests that many sites may not have full hookups. It's always best to inquire directly about hookup availability for your specific needs.
Picnic Tables and Fire Pits: Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table and a fire pit, allowing campers to enjoy outdoor meals and traditional campfires. Guests should ensure these are clean upon arrival and report any issues to the owner.
Porta Potties: For restroom facilities, the campground utilizes porta potties. While not traditional flush toilets, these are maintained for basic sanitation needs, aligning with the primitive camping experience.
Owner-Operated Support: The campground benefits from being owner-operated, meaning the owner is often on-site or readily available for assistance. This personal touch can be beneficial for late check-ins or addressing immediate concerns.
Phone Accessibility: Despite its natural setting, the campground reportedly has good phone accessibility, allowing campers to stay connected if needed.
Quiet Hours: The campground enforces quiet hours, promoting a peaceful environment, especially during the evenings and nights, allowing campers to fully appreciate the sounds of nature.
It's important to set expectations based on the "primitive" description. This means that services are fundamental, and campers should come prepared with a self-sufficient mindset, ready to embrace a more rustic form of camping where nature is the primary amenity.
Jericho Gateway Family Campground stands out due to several key features that cater specifically to its target audience, providing a unique experience in the New Hampshire wilderness.
Unparalleled ATV Trail Accessibility: This is the paramount highlight of Jericho Gateway. The campground offers direct "ride-in, ride-out" access to the vast ATV trail network, including the Yamaha connector trail. This means campers can seamlessly transition from their site directly onto hundreds of miles of trails within Jericho Mountain State Park and beyond, eliminating the need to transport ATVs to a separate trailhead. For ATV and UTV enthusiasts, this is a game-changer.
Privacy of Campsites: Despite being a campground, many sites are noted for their privacy and spaciousness. The layout allows for individual enjoyment of the natural surroundings, preventing the feeling of being too close to neighboring campers. This is a significant draw for those seeking a more secluded and personal camping experience.
Quiet and Peaceful Environment: The campground is frequently praised for its quiet hours and overall peaceful ambiance. This allows campers to fully immerse themselves in the sounds of nature and enjoy a tranquil evening under the stars, away from the hustle and bustle of urban life.
Owner-Operated and Friendly Staff: Being owner-operated contributes to a more personal and often friendly atmosphere. The owner's knowledge of the area and availability for assistance, including late check-ins, adds a layer of helpfulness that can significantly enhance a camper's stay.
Rustic and Authentic Experience: Jericho Gateway leans into a primitive camping style, appealing to those who prefer a more rugged and authentic outdoor adventure. While this means fewer conventional amenities, it fosters a stronger connection to nature and encourages self-reliance, which many outdoor enthusiasts appreciate.
Proximity to Jericho Mountain State Park: Beyond the immediate trail access, the campground's close proximity to Jericho Mountain State Park itself means campers have an immense playground at their disposal. This state park is famous for its off-road trails and offers diverse terrain for all skill levels, from leisurely rides to challenging climbs.
Given the nature of Jericho Gateway Family Campground as a smaller, owner-operated, and more primitive establishment, it is less common for them to advertise elaborate promotions or large-scale discount programs compared to bigger, more commercial campgrounds. Their pricing model is typically straightforward, based on nightly rates for sites.
Based on the provided information, the typical rate for a tent site appears to be around $35 per night. While no specific special offers or recurring promotions were detailed, it's always advisable for prospective campers to directly inquire about any potential deals, especially for:
Extended Stays: Some campgrounds might offer a discounted rate for booking multiple consecutive nights.
Off-Peak Season Discounts: If you're planning to visit during quieter times outside of the main summer season or major holidays, there might be flexibility in pricing.
Group Bookings: For large groups planning a trip, it's worth asking if any special rates apply for booking multiple sites simultaneously.
The best way to ascertain any current pricing details, packages, or potential offers is to directly contact the campground. As an owner-operated establishment, they may be more flexible or able to provide personalized information regarding pricing for your specific needs. Be sure to mention any specific requirements you have, as this might influence availability or potential rates.

Jericho Gateway Family Campground Reviews
I wanted to give this place a glowing 5 star review. The 3 stars is for the friendliness of the owner which for me, goes a long way. I knew when I booked that it would be “primitive” camping however the accommodations were inadequate even going in with that caveat. If you read no further - here’s a pro/con list.ProsATV trail accessibilityPrivacy of campsitePhone accessibilityQuiet hoursConsMud. So much mud.No site map onlineBroken picnic tablePorta pottiesSmall site for the price pointOwner communication/honestyI booked the tent site for $35 a night. There was no site map online, so I called to inquire about the sites available. The owner was knowledgeable and recommended a few, stating that 37 was small but private with a little patch of grass. Perfect, no problem there. The problem comes in that the higher the site number, the farther into the park you go. Near the beginning of the park the roadway is not bad. As you get farther in the roads are awful, with lots of rocks and mud. We were concerned that our F250 would get damaged at certain points - we came there to use our four wheelers not for off roading with our truck! The entrance to site 37 was a mud pit - no mention of this or road conditions over the phone. Our F250 got stuck several times in the mud. The mud was so bad we couldn’t walk out of the site much less our entire shoe be covered in mud. Frustrated in all of this because it would have been nice for the owner to mention over the phone. After we got situated, the site itself was cute, cozy, private, with one neighbor across the street. Small firepit and picnic table on site. The picnic table was dirty, covered in ash and some bird poop, and one board on the firepit side was completely loose and my fiance almost fell off the table when sitting on it.All things said - we had a good time, you can’t beat the location, and the owner was nice, and was available for a late checkin for us if needed. I’m sure if we mentioned our concerns with the site they would have helped us anyway they could, perhaps moving to a different site, however we didn’t want the hassle of packing and moving all of our stuff.I would be interested in coming back here if conditions were different - maybe better weather would help a different site. There’s definitely room for improvement.

May 27, 2022 · Patrick O'BrienAmazing place! We had sooo much fun!! ATV trails for days!!! Campsite was good sized ...enough room for everyone's trail toys, camper/RV & vehicle(s). About 40 minutes to Mount Washington. Open all year is a plus. No campsite/reservation fees ...but please do leave a donation. 10 out of 10, we'd come back again! 👍
