Hurricane Landing Campground Introduce
For many Mississippians, the call of the wild is a familiar tune, and finding that perfect spot to set up camp, cast a line, or simply unwind surrounded by nature is a cherished pursuit. Hurricane Landing Campground, nestled in Lafayette County, MS, answers that call for countless local adventurers. Located near the expansive and renowned Sardis Lake, this campground offers a foundational outdoor experience for those looking to immerse themselves in the natural beauty of North Mississippi. While it presents a more rustic appeal, it remains a popular choice for its direct access to some of the state's best fishing and water recreation.
Hurricane Landing Campground is managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a testament to its integration within a larger system of recreational areas designed to make the most of our state's waterways and surrounding lands. It's a place where the focus is firmly on the outdoor activities facilitated by its prime location on Sardis Lake, rather than on extensive modern amenities. This overview aims to provide a clear and factual account of what local users can expect when planning a visit to Hurricane Landing Campground, drawing upon publicly available information and common camper experiences.
Hurricane Landing Campground is situated in Lafayette County, MS, specifically along the eastern end of Sardis Lake's southern shoreline. The provided address, Lafayette County, MS 38601, USA, places it conveniently for residents across North Mississippi. It's a short drive from the city of Oxford, home to the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), and also within a reasonable distance of the historic town of Holly Springs. For those coming from further afield, Interstate 22 (I-22) provides a relatively direct route to the area.
Access to Hurricane Landing is generally straightforward. From I-22, travelers can take the Highway 7 South exit at Holly Springs and follow it for approximately 18 miles before turning right onto Lafayette County Road 108 at Abbeville. From there, it's about 4.5 miles to the Hurricane Landing Recreation Area. Alternatively, from Highway 278 in Oxford, one would take Highway 7 North for about 10.5 miles, then turn left onto Lafayette County Road 108 at Abbeville, continuing for roughly 4.5 miles to the campground. These clear directions make the campground accessible for both RVs and vehicles towing boats, though navigating the loop within the campground itself may require careful attention due to some parking practices. The remote yet accessible nature of the campground allows for a genuine escape into nature without being too far off the beaten path for resupply runs in nearby towns.

Hurricane Landing Campground Reviews
It's a shame this place is being so neglected. The bathrooms are grungy and in need of repair. The campsites have firepits that are loaded with ashes, there's more weeds than gravel in the impact pads, and most driveways have piles of molding leaves or gravel scattered across them. I've never seen so many campers with off-leash dogs (which aren't being picked up after), and there's also a large stray dog living here. There's no one picking up litter, and while each site has their own trash can rather than a large dumpster for the whole campground, there was no trash pickup or bathroom cleaning from Thursday to Monday. Campers are also parking their pickups towing boats wherever they choose, and at times, it's hard to navigate the loop to get to your site. On the plus side, campers are pretty quiet, with most here to fish in the lake and no real partying going on.
Mar 26, 2025 · KatWins the award for most cigarette butts in one campsite! Grass had not been mowed in weeks and we had a broken beer bottle all over our campsite - I did cleanup that along with all the other trash (Leave No Trace). Facilities are what you would expect. This would suffice as base camp for your fishing trip.
Jul 01, 2023 · Jeffrey SwingNice campground. Not gated so you have traffic driving through. Right on Sardis Lake.
Jun 09, 2025 · Denon SealsJust fine for an overnight. Campsites are near each other and not secluded. Picnic table, grill, nice fire ring, and trashcan provided at each site. Bathroom is fine - metal potties and small shower stalls. Warm water plentiful.
