We had a nice time - the weather was brr … chilly but it was worth it. We expected it to be since it was January and the country was expecting freezing temperatures. We tent camped- tip bring your own drinking and cooking water. They have two restroom areas, showers with codes needed for access, playground, seasonal nature center, pavilion can be scheduled. Fishing, biking, hiking, swimming. Dolphin sighting, sea life and shark teeth, shells, and so much more.Mayport Naval base is across the river- and base noises should be expected - helicopter training, loud speakers, and plenty of ships passing. Some sites are not as level as others. Some are on the park’s main road (inlet side).Fire ring and electrical hookups at sites. It was breezy of the ocean/ water. You can drive on the beach with a 4x4 vehicle. Two waters to be on - the inlet and the ocean. Inlet you can kayak and canoe.Several reviews mentioned sand fleas- at THIS TIME OF YEAR THERE WERE NO SAND FLEAS or bugs.So we enjoyed our visit! - Rita Loeding

Huguenot Campground Introduce

Introduction / Overview

For Florida locals yearning for a unique coastal camping experience, where the gentle rhythm of the waves and the salty breeze define your stay, Huguenot Campground in Jacksonville, FL, stands as an exceptional destination. Unlike many traditional inland campgrounds, Huguenot offers the rare opportunity to camp directly by the water, with views of both the Fort George River Inlet and the vast Atlantic Ocean. It's a place where the sunrises are breathtaking, the opportunities for outdoor activities are endless, and the connection with nature is truly immersive. This City of Jacksonville-managed park provides a fantastic blend of rustic charm and essential amenities, making it a beloved spot for campers across the Sunshine State.

What truly sets Huguenot Campground apart, as consistently highlighted by satisfied visitors, is its incredible location and the diverse array of activities it supports. Imagine waking up to the sound of shorebirds, spending your day fishing, swimming, or kayaking in the inlet, and then driving your 4x4 vehicle directly onto the beach for an unparalleled experience. Reviewers often praise the opportunities for "dolphin sighting, sea life and shark teeth, shells, and so much more," emphasizing the rich natural environment. While the proximity to Mayport Naval Base means you might hear "base noises," including "helicopter training" and "loudspeakers," many campers find this an interesting and manageable part of the unique coastal setting, often overshadowed by the natural beauty and vibrant wildlife.

The campground also receives high marks for its practical amenities, including "clean and well stocked" bathrooms and showers with secure access codes. The presence of security throughout the night further adds to peace of mind. Whether you're a seasoned RVer with full hookup needs or a tent camper looking for a more back-to-basics experience, Huguenot Campground caters to various preferences, ensuring a comfortable and memorable stay. It's a true jewel in North Florida, inviting locals to discover the unparalleled joy of beachfront camping.

Location and Accessibility

Huguenot Campground is uniquely situated on an Unnamed Road, at 10980 Heckscher Dr, Jacksonville, FL 32226, USA. This address places it within Huguenot Memorial Park, a distinctive peninsula bordered by the Fort George River, St. Johns River, and the Atlantic Ocean. For Florida locals, this location offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience diverse coastal environments all within one park, right in their backyard.

Accessibility to the park is generally straightforward via Heckscher Drive, a scenic route that winds through Jacksonville's beautiful Northside. While it feels like a secluded natural escape, it's still conveniently located within Jacksonville, meaning essentials are not far away. However, it's crucial for visitors, especially on weekends, to be aware that there can be "long lines of cars" at the park entrance, as it serves both day-use visitors and campers. Arriving early on weekdays or in the late afternoon on weekends for campers is often recommended to avoid peak congestion.

One of the most defining features of Huguenot's location is its direct beach access, allowing 4x4 vehicles to drive directly onto designated portions of the beach. This is a significant draw for many Floridians, providing an ease of access to the shoreline that is rare. The park's proximity to the Mayport Naval Base across the St. Johns River means that naval activities, including helicopter and ship movements, are part of the ambient environment. While some may find the noise noticeable, many local campers see it as an interesting backdrop to the dynamic coastal scenery. Furthermore, the campground's strategic position provides easy access to nearby attractions like Kingsley Plantation, Big Talbot Island State Park, and Amelia Island, extending the possibilities for exploration during your stay.
