Hilltop Campground Introduce
For many Arizona residents, escaping the heat and finding a serene spot to reconnect with nature is a top priority. Located just minutes from the charming city of Prescott, Hilltop Campground offers a truly remarkable and highly-praised camping experience that is considered by some to be the "best camping spot in all of Arizona." This claim, made by a delighted visitor, is backed by the campground's stunning natural beauty, excellent amenities, and a peaceful atmosphere that makes you feel a world away from the stresses of daily life. Tucked into the lush Ponderosa pine forest, Hilltop Campground provides a cool and shaded retreat, making it an ideal destination to escape the summer heat of the lower desert elevations.
Hilltop Campground stands out for its well-maintained and thoughtfully designed sites. Unlike many campgrounds where sites are packed closely together, Hilltop offers a sense of privacy and seclusion. Each spot is described as having its own unique beauty and a private feel, allowing campers to truly unwind and enjoy their surroundings. This is a developed campground, meaning it offers more than a primitive camping experience, but it manages to do so without sacrificing the natural, rugged feel of the forest. The presence of friendly and helpful camp hosts further enhances the experience, ensuring that your stay is as comfortable and stress-free as possible.
The site’s proximity to Lynx Lake Recreation Area is a major advantage, offering a wealth of additional activities just a short walk or drive away. The combination of a pristine campground and access to a popular lake with a variety of recreational options makes Hilltop Campground a premier destination for families, couples, and solo adventurers alike. It's a place where the value far exceeds the camping fee, a sentiment echoed by a recent visitor who stated it is "worth twice the fee you pay."
Hilltop Campground is conveniently situated on Walker Road in Prescott, AZ, with an address of Prescott, AZ 86303, USA. This location places it within the Prescott National Forest, offering a genuine forest camping experience while still being incredibly close to modern conveniences. Its proximity to both the city of Prescott and Lynx Lake is a huge plus.
Accessibility to the campground is generally straightforward. The road leading to it is paved in some sections and dirt in others, but it is well-maintained and manageable for most vehicles. While some sites may not be suitable for large trailers or RVs over 40 feet due to the terrain, others are well-suited for a variety of rigs, including toy haulers, with the help of a knowledgeable camp host. The campground also features on-site parking, ensuring that you can keep your vehicle close to your site. A major highlight is its close proximity to a convenience store and gas station just a few minutes away, which is a rare luxury for a campground with such a secluded feel. This makes it easy to quickly grab forgotten supplies without a long drive back into town.
Hilltop Campground provides a variety of services that elevate the camping experience beyond the basic.

For information and inquiries, you can contact the U.S. Forest Service at their general number, (928) 443-8000. ★ 5★ 4★ 3★ 2★ 1Best camping spot in all of Arizona. It's beautiful, it's clean, it's quiet... this was my first time there and I was beyond impressed. Every spot here has privacy and beauty. Just a few minute hike from the lake and with clean and convenient bathrooms. The canoe rental team was amazing as was the cafe. Located just a few minutes from a convenience store and gas station for any small needs too. We will be back multiple times every year from here on out. And not to support the inflation we are all suffering with but this place is worth twice the fee you pay. I end this by saying again- best camping spot in all of Arizona!
May 28 · tdriggs0511Nice spot for camping and escaping the heat of Mesa. Beautiful forest setting. Very nice camp host, helped us find a spot that would better fit our toy hauler. Fire pit at each site as well as picnic table, space below for tent or chairs to relax, put toilets (could be cleaned more often) zero Verizon service.
June 07 · Deb VeenstraThis is a quiet, beautiful woodland. Great trails to walk your dogs. Peaceful setting and a host who is on top of what's happening. My only warning is that I had to move my C Class RV because site 17 was way too unlevel for my rig. I was up five of those yellow blocks high and still not level. With the help of the host, I moved to site #1 which needed no leveling at all. Spent a lovely week at Hilltop!
May 25 · AnnMarieLovely quiet dry camping. Tall pines. Cool mornings. Will definitely be back.
June 18 · Jilly BWe loved this campground. First time camping here. We usually camp at Yavapai but it was closed until May 1st due to the epic snow this year. Our site had a pretty view and the campground was very clean. The sites are spaced out unlike its neighborhood lynx lake campground. We stayed in site #31 on loop C. The only reason why I give it four stars is honestly because of the camp host. Not the main host. A site across from us on Thursday a guy showed up in a spot that was blocked off. We assume he is going to be a second camp host for the summer. They brought him a golf cart. However we never see him. He ran his very LOUD generator 90% of the day that sounded like it needed serviced. We have a generator too but only ran it for about an hour for showers. I would stay in loop B if you can so you don’t hear it all day long and interrupt your peace and quiet. Disappointing the camp host was the loudest around.
