4.0
We loved the few days we spent here camping,we're a family of 5 and had plenty of space to ourselves and away from other campers at site 14. Our site had a bear box, fire ring and picnic table. The campground had water stations and trash bins along with vault toilets which were very clean. The camp host was very nice and checked on us a few times to see if we needed fire wood. Great experience and campground with lots of shade with alot of trees for your hammock and space for a large tent. We will Definitely be going back. - James Ortiz

Heart Bar Family Campground is conveniently situated at 46610 CA-38, Angelus Oaks, CA 92305, USA, placing it strategically within the beautiful San Bernardino National Forest. This location makes it an ideal mountain retreat that is relatively easy to reach for residents across Southern California, yet far enough to provide that desirable feeling of escape and wilderness immersion. The campground is located directly off Highway 38, one of the main arteries leading into the Big Bear area, ensuring straightforward access for most vehicles.

Its proximity to popular destinations is a significant advantage. Heart Bar is approximately 20 minutes away from the iconic Big Bear Lake, a hub for recreational activities, dining, and shops. This means campers can enjoy the tranquility of their secluded campsite while still having convenient access to the lake's amenities for a day trip of boating, fishing, or exploring the village. Services Offered

Heart Bar Family Campground provides a thoughtful array of essential services and amenities designed to enhance your camping experience while maintaining a rustic, natural feel. These provisions cater to both comfort and safety in the wilderness environment. Here’s a detailed look at what’s available:

  • Spacious Campsites: The campground boasts generously sized campsites, offering ample space for large tents, multiple vehicles (within site limits), and plenty of room to spread out and enjoy privacy from neighboring campers. Sites often provide natural separation through trees and terrain.
  • Individual Site Amenities: Each campsite is equipped with key amenities for convenience and safety. These include a sturdy picnic table for dining and meal prep, a durable fire ring for campfires (always check fire restrictions!), and a bear box (also known as a bear chest or food locker). These bear boxes are crucial for storing food and scented items securely, preventing wildlife encounters and protecting your provisions. They are often large enough to hold a huge cooler plus many other items.
  • Potable Water Stations: Throughout the campground, you'll find accessible water stations, providing potable (drinkable) water for cooking, cleaning, and hydration. This eliminates the need to pack in all your water, making your trip more convenient.
  • Vault Toilets: Clean and well-maintained vault toilets are available within the campground. While rustic (no flush toilets), they are regularly serviced by the camp host, ensuring a more pleasant experience compared to some less-maintained facilities.
  • Trash Bins: Conveniently located trash bins are provided for responsible waste disposal. This makes it easy for campers to keep their sites clean and adhere to "pack it in, pack it out" principles for the general environment.
  • On-Site Camp Host: A major highlight for many visitors is the presence of a friendly and helpful camp host. These hosts are often available to answer questions, provide local insights, ensure campground rules are followed, and sometimes even offer firewood for sale, enhancing the overall camping experience.
  • First-Come, First-Served Sites: While some campgrounds operate solely on reservations, Heart Bar offers first-come, first-served (FCFS) sites. This can be a huge relief for spontaneous travelers or those who couldn't secure a reservation elsewhere, providing a valuable option for finding a spot, especially during busy periods.
  • Shade and Trees: The campground is richly forested with numerous trees, providing abundant shade, which is particularly welcome during California's warm summer months. These trees also offer perfect spots for hanging hammocks, adding to the relaxation opportunities.

  • Spacious & Secluded Campsites: One of the most praised features is the generous size and natural seclusion of the campsites, allowing families and groups to enjoy privacy and feel truly immersed in the forest. Site 14 is specifically mentioned as being particularly spacious.
  • Effective Bear Boxes: The large, secure bear boxes at each site are a significant highlight, ensuring food safety and peace of mind from wildlife, a critical consideration in mountain environments.
