Hawks Bluff Campground and General Store Reviews
This was a great experience. Although it seemed we got there opening weekend and a lot of things were just being set up it was still nice and accommodating. We rented a bell tent (not yurt) for 2 nights. From the first day of contact to set up our stay to the last day, the staff was on top of everything. Communication was excellent. We enjoyed the location, the farm animals, the scenery and rockhounding!Mark showed us the map of the property, marked out a few places to search and even brought us out to one of the spots. He showed us samples of what we could find on the property too. Not only that but he was very helpful with everything else All the details we needed, and anything else like firewood. The facilities were very nice and clean. The showers are very clean with hot water. The kitchen was so nice to have, i had pre set up our meals so it was such a breeze to cook wash our camp dishes and eat. I had everything we needed minus the stove and coffee pot, which was there to use. The great thing is, if you did forget something they had you covered! They really do set it up to accommodate.Their dogs are super cute and friendly! My little dog enjoyed them stopping by our camp to say hi. It was the perfect relaxing weekend for us! Just what we needed!BE AWARE the ticks we did get on us while rock hounding were lone star ticks. And they are ruthless! We were using the deep woods red can tick spray and still had to pull off a few. Please be sure you treat your dogs! We did 24 hours before and it wasn't long enough for exposure, she had them all over her.
Apr 28, 2025 · Stacey aNot only did we feel welcomed, we made new friends. Elizabeth is amazing and accommodating. She makes you feel at home and if you had forgotten something I bet she has it! I went to look for rocks and I was not disappointed!! Also Aj the caretaker was great! He delivered wood to our campsite, bathrooms were tending to daily, showers were hot and clean and always had a friendly smile. If looking for a family atmosphere, this is the place that you should definitely visit! Justin and I had an absolute wonderful time and will be going back with family and friends.
Sep 29, 2024 · Stacey PotterI have always been a state park camper but I found this place on Hip Camp. This Campground has blown me out of the water. Its still a developing Campground but it's still an amazing place. I tent camp so I was able to set up a few feet from the pond which allowed for early morning fishing. The working animals on the farm are so friendly and we were encouraged to go up the cows and Mules. Elizabeth and Mark are extremely friendly and kind. If you are a rock collector this place is for you. Thousands of Druzy Quartz can be found every few feet. Unfortunately the rain dampered our chance to do a rock hunt with Mark but since it's only a hour away, we plan to pay them visit and discover more about the farm!
May 26, 2025 · Allison N. HahlI loved visiting this place. I will go again. I was there to find Druzy quarts. Its not really a matter of finding it, it is how many buckets should I take home. You could literally "throw a rock" and find druzy or lace agate, even both! Elizabeth and AJ are both super friendly and helpful. This mine caters to all levels of rockhounding. The property is mostly trees and is not a "strip mine", so expect to move the leaves and some brush aside to find the good stuff. Dont ignore the tiff pits tailig piles, I found some really good stuff there. If you go in the summer, bring bug spray, and use a lot of it. Ticks are the natural human predator. If you are nice, AJ may power wash your finds, and if the spot he shows you yeilds some good finds, tip him as a guide. Elizabeth also has several tents set up for people to sleep in and lots of space to bring your own. They also have Ice and Propane available for sale.
Jul 02, 2024 · Mark HungateThis is a beautiful, rustic setting. Very genuine. The staff are as pleasant and helpful as can be. We were there for the rock collecting, but the campground looks fun and inviting. They have farm animals to enjoy and observe. Great experience!
