Unlike more rustic sites, Great Sand Dunes Oasis prides itself on its well-maintained facilities and thoughtful layout, making it suitable for a wide range of campers, from those with RVs to families with tents. This is the promise of Great Sand Dunes Oasis, a truly "absolute heaven" for those looking to maximize their experience in one of Colorado's most iconic landscapes.
The Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, the star attraction of the region, is an extraordinary natural wonder. Home to the tallest dunes in North America, reaching up to 750 feet high, this unique geological formation provides a surreal landscape for sandboarding, sand sledding, and hiking. Beyond the dunes, the park encompasses diverse ecosystems, from alpine tundra and forests in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to wetlands and grasslands, supporting a variety of plant and animal life. Medano Creek, a seasonal stream that flows at the base of the dunes, offers a popular spot for wading and playing during spring and early summer. The dark night skies over the park have earned it International Dark Sky Park status, making stargazing an incredible experience. The Great Sand Dunes Oasis is perfectly positioned to leverage all these wonders, providing campers with easy access to the park's entrance and ensuring that their time is spent enjoying the unique environment rather than dealing with logistical hassles. Its strategic location allows for both daytime exploration and nighttime celestial marvels, making every moment of your Colorado adventure truly special.
Great Sand Dunes Oasis is conveniently located at 7800 CO-150, Mosca, CO 81146, USA. This address places it just outside the entrance to the Great Sand Dunes National Park and Preserve, offering unparalleled proximity to one of Colorado's most unique natural attractions. The campground's strategic location ensures that visitors have quick and easy access to the park's main features, minimizing travel time and maximizing recreational opportunities.
Accessibility to Great Sand Dunes Oasis is straightforward. It is situated directly on Colorado State Highway 150 (CO-150), the primary paved road that leads to the national park. This means that whether you are driving an RV, pulling a camper, or simply arriving by car, the journey to the campground is smooth and well-maintained. There are no challenging unpaved roads or difficult navigation required. CO-150 connects to U.S. Highway 160 to the south, which is a major east-west route in southern Colorado, making the campground easily reachable from various parts of the state, including cities like Alamosa, Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and Denver.
The campground's location in Mosca, a small community in the San Luis Valley, also means it benefits from the vast, open skies characteristic of the region, contributing to the "perfect stargazing" experience highlighted by customers. While relatively rural, the proximity to Alamosa (approximately 30 miles to the southwest) ensures that essential services, larger grocery stores, and additional dining options are within a reasonable driving distance if needed. This balance of being close to a major attraction yet easily accessible via a well-maintained state highway makes Great Sand Dunes Oasis an extremely practical and convenient choice for any Coloradan looking to explore the Great Sand Dunes National Park and the surrounding San Luis Valley.

This facility provides hot water with great pressure, making it an "absolute heaven after a day of trekking in Great Sand Dunes National Park." Access to the shower house is available for campers and also for a fee ($10/person, as per a review) for non-campers or those staying elsewhere but needing a refresh. Note that toiletries or towels are not provided.
Clean Restrooms: In addition to the shower house, the campground provides "Clean restrooms too," ensuring a hygienic and comfortable experience for all campers.
Campsites for Tents and RVs: The campground offers a variety of sites suitable for both tent camping and RVs. While specific hookup details for RV sites are not provided, the ability to accommodate large vehicles (implied by RV suitability) suggests standard electrical and potentially water hookups.
Scattered Campsite Layout: Campsites are "beautifully scattered uphill from the dunes," providing a sense of space and privacy for campers. This layout contributes to the overall peaceful atmosphere and allows for better views and stargazing opportunities.
General Store / Gift Shop: Given its location as an "Oasis" near a national park, it is highly probable that the facility includes a general store or gift shop. These typically offer basic camping supplies, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, and possibly even sandboards or sand sleds for rent, though this should be confirmed with the campground directly.
Fuel Station: Many visitor-serving businesses near national parks also offer fuel. While not explicitly stated in reviews, the name "Oasis" might imply the presence of a gas station, which would be a significant convenience.
Friendly and Amazing Service: Customer reviews consistently highlight the "amazing service" and "really great people working here." This emphasis on positive customer interaction is a valuable, albeit intangible, service that greatly enhances the camping experience.
These services, particularly the emphasis on cleanliness and excellent customer service, make Great Sand Dunes Oasis a highly desirable choice for a comfortable and convenient stay near the national park.

Being a stone's throw from an International Dark Sky Park, campers can expect incredibly clear night skies, ideal for observing stars, constellations, and even the Milky Way.
Comfortable and Clean Facilities: As consistently praised by customers, the "hot and clean showers" and "clean restrooms" provide a significant comfort after a day of outdoor activities, especially the sandy environment of the dunes. This focus on cleanliness greatly enhances the overall camping experience.
Beautifully Scattered Campsites: The sites are "beautifully scattered uphill from the dunes," which implies not only good spacing for privacy but also potentially elevated views of the dunes and surrounding landscape, adding to the aesthetic appeal of the camping experience.
Stunning Views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains: While not explicitly mentioned in reviews, given its location, the campground would undoubtedly offer magnificent views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains, which form the eastern boundary of the San Luis Valley and provide a dramatic backdrop to the dunes.
Friendly and Welcoming Atmosphere: The consistent feedback about "amazing service" and "really great people working here" indicates a strong commitment to guest satisfaction, fostering a welcoming and positive environment for all campers.

Great Sand Dunes Oasis Reviews
We paid $10/pp for access to the shower house. Worth every penny if you are midway through a camping trip and need a refresh! The shower house was very clean, water pressure and temperature were great. They do not provide any toiletries or towels however.
Jul 08, 2025 · Lacey ParkAbsolute heaven after a day of trekking in Great Sand Dunes National Park. Campsites were beautifully scattered uphill from the dunes to allow for perfect stargazing. Showers were hot and clean. Clean restrooms too. Couldn't ask for a better camping experience. PLUS the service was amazing. Really great people working here. A wonderful experience.
Jun 04, 2025 · Melissa XWe stayed in the cabins. Would be a nice change from sleeping on the ground camping, though our stay was in between hotels. The mattresses are a little hard after motel mattresses! One light, two outlets. Cute table and chairs set. There were four bunked twins in our cabin (two sets of two twin bunks). Great views!! Was able to rent a sand sled and sand surf board at the shop. The restaurant was really good. The bathrooms were a walk down a hill and had nice hot water. Remember to turn in your old style actual keys on check out.
Jun 20, 2025 · Colette FreemanWe didn't stay here as we camped inside the national park, but we did rent sand sleds. The process was smooth. They open at 8am and when we arrived at 7:55, there was already a line for sleds. Get sleds/boards early so you can enjoy the dunes before it's painfully hot. Sleds worked well on the dunes and our kids had a lot of fun. After returning the sleds, we grabbed some ice cream treats from the shop. It's just prepackaged bars/popsicles and expensive, which is to be expected since it's a convenience, but they were also a bit freezer burnt, which was a bummer.
Jun 30, 2025 · Mandie LangmanWe really love this place! Great camp sites that are actually at the base of a mountain in the trees. It gives you that real camping experience. The bathrooms and shower house are nice and we loved that they had a spot to do dishes and fill up water. It makes the primitive camping experience a little easier. We will definitely come here again!
